About the amount of Redlands fans who were present at the game...I believe it was fall break, and all the students were off campus, which usually hurts attendance.

Thanks ...  I know that fall break always seems to put a damper on attendance.  Plus I think the last time we played there it was your HC, which is also a bad thing to gauge attendance off of.

Keep in mind play #1 after Oxy scored in a handful of plays was a fade down the left sideline....perfect throw by the qb, and the wr dropped it.  Would have been 7-7.

Can we not break down a game with shouda's, coulda's and woulda's.  I mean if Oxy had not scored any points and Redlands scored 42 ... sure Redlands would have won, but the matter of the fact is that Redlands didn't make the catch and they didn't tie the game at 7-7.   I mean there a ton of "if only's" in any game, but the only thing that counts is what actually happened and last night Oxy pulled out a W whether or not is was sloppy.  Like Widolff says after every game, "A win is a win, but we still need to improve for next week" and oxy will be doing just that.  ;)

The one PI call in the 2nd quarter in the end zone on 4th down was very questionable.  That ended up costing UR 3 points on a fg .  There were calls both ways that were questionable but that one hurt.

I will agree with both in that there were calls that went both ways.  Redlands line was blatantly holding most of the game and I know because I played O-line that every o-lineman holds, but this was really obvious.  I was glad when Redlands they finally got a holding penalty in the 4th quarter. (I was the one doing the jig in the Oxy stands) One thing that has to be said is that SCIAC refs have never had a reputation for being the best in DIII!  I agree with bob in that this game was not decided by bad officiating.

Oxy's #2 is a very good rb.

That #2 you refer to is Matt Anderson and he is an awesome.  When we had him and Ryan Gonzales for two years I was never worried when we ran the ball because I knew if I did my job they would do the rest.  Matt is quick and shifty.  I can't wait to see what he does for the rest of the season.

This reporter's opinion...
That is a confident OXY offense. Matt Anderson gets a wide-open field when they want and they experimented with punching it out with Redlands as well. OXYCollins has the Tiggers grooming for the playoffs. California Lutheran may get the full OXY arsenal. They toyed around last night.
The Redlands defense could not have played any more inspired. They got to OXYCollins many times. He just got up and practiced some more. Sorry, a 5'9", 170lb corner is going to get picked on by a good quarterback and OXYCollins is a great one. He basically looked off Redlands on the OXY'S first score, talking to 3 wide outs on the left and then hit a wide open receiver in the end zone on the right. Since he hadn't really taken off all night I was willing to bet anyone in the stands he was going to run on the last TD. He ran. A great bootleg.
Going anywhere in the playoffs? That defense had better get a lot better.

I agree with a few on the boards...OXY's #2 is a player, fun to watch...hits the holes hard, and is physcial.

I was also impressed by their receivers and how well the blocked....

I still think Oxy is the team to beat, but I have not seen Cal LU play, but I am sure it will be a good one.

Oxy fans...how does your future look?  Young talent?  Who is next years qb?  I only ask because last night it seems without Collins there were not too many game breakers (except #2 of course).

The game was decided by the plays the Oxy offense made, not the officiating.  No one ever said that.  As to the woulda, coulda shoulda thing........to some degree isnt that what sports fans do? ;)

Bottom line was that is was an exciting game, it was hard fought by both teams and both teams should be poud of the way they played.

I saw the Redlands/Trinity game.  If the Redlands D was at its best against Trinity, than Trinity deserves a much higher ranking in the top 25 (now 30th) than they currently are given.  Trinity's one loss was due to playing their third string QB for most of one game.  That would mean an improving Redlands would have played three top 25 teams.  They will do well the rest of the season.

Lots of Freshmen in Oxy's program this year (around 45).  We'll see how they pan out as the season progresses and they learn the system.

Justin Goltz is Oxy's QB of the future.  In my opinion, at 6'5" 215lbs he's a prototype quarterback build and has good presence in the pocket.  With a maturing offensive line look for him to have plenty of protection in the upcoming seasons and emerge as a leader on the Tigers squad.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

I cant understand why Bob wont give credit to the UR qb for making a good throw while he was being hit, does it matter if there was a blitz or not........no it doesnt.  He hit an receiver while under pressure.  Great job.

>>On that particular play, the announcers discussed how Oxy's D on third down many times brings everyone but the kitchen sink (my words, not theirs') . . . and I could see it all in my mind's eye.  Having the QB hit the TE coming across the middle against that defense is a great call (imho) and one of the dangers that Oxy faces in making that tactical call.  It paid off for the Bulldogs.<<

Interesting analysis, but that's not what happened on the play. Saras dropped back. Oxy did not blitz on the play. All of the wide receivers were covered. I believe No. 85 Ferguson got to Saras, and as he was tackling him Saras flipped the ball away and it went to (I think) No. 94 Lacey, who wasn't covered, and he scored. If that's how the play was designed, then it worked to perfection. The Oxy defense should be very pleased that the only touchdown they gave up was on that kind of play.

Hey Oxybob....did you ever play football? What you just described above, done with extreme sarcasm because this is just your personality, is the reality of the game. How many times did Colins get flushed out of the pocket, scramble and then make the play? MANY of his third and fourth down completions happened this way. To use your analogy then, should we say "Redlands defense should be happy that the drives that created Oxy's last two touchdowns, the two that won the game, were flukey and sloppy, definitely not textbook and pretty (or should I say, THE WORLD ACCORDING TO BOB)." Because they were not pretty, does it lessen the reality or significance of them?

On another matter, most every Redlands' fan congratulated Oxy on their win. I in fact commented to you "Congrats on Oxy's win". Dawg Gone It thanked those on the board for being gracious winners and not trying to be ugly, rubbing it in Redland's faces. With your comments, "shoulda, woulda, coulda and your comment
about a "flukey TD", you sir, are a horses' behind and a poor winner, without any tactfulness. You also have had the good fortune that your favorite Oxy team has been successful in the SCIAC. I congratulate them for their success. However, how are you Oxybob when your team loses? Were you one of the "Oxy Whiners" complaining how poor Occidental drew Linfield their first playoff game last year and consequently had their asses handed to them?

This game was a close game and well fought by both sides...same as last year's game. To degrade Redland's efforts, or imply their successes were only a fluke, only comfirms what many have said about you on this board!

Dawg Fan....if I could + k you I would.  Your post expresses the feeling of not only the UR fans but from what Ive been told in PM's and emails almost the entirity of this board.

Every post Bob makes starts with>>>>>>>someone said<<<<<<<<<<< and then the sarcasm and highly opininated verbage begins.  Other than his google abilities...he serves no purpose other than his own little vendetta.

I know for a fact that he never played a down of football or any sport for that matter ...other than on his computer.

Well played everyone this weekend.

Must say impressed with the CMS win. Not flashy and Chapman is not the best team around. However, they are a more than decent opponent. Best part was the D did not fold after getting down 14-7. Years past, the floodgates would have opened. Let's see how this carries over for the rest of the season.
As for the performance against UPS couple of weeks ago- UPS is improved (played Linfield close) and combination of byeweek slacking and lack of discipline on the road. Hopefully the strong performance against Chapman builds confidence and wil help to carry for the rest of the year. Big games still remain against Redlands and Cal Lu.

Glad to see Redlands come out strong against Oxy. Really thought Oxy would dominate regardless of the intensity of Redlands. Good sign for Redlands.

Stag...are you talking about the 1996 game that UPS played Linfield close? ;)

EastCoastStag

Actually I was referencing the first half of the game. Failed to check the final score. Unless 21-17 has become a first half blowout. I guess that a 4 point lead at any point in a game is sheer dominance.

I previously renamed RFB, but I have decided to instead switch his alternate nickname to you. From now on you shall be known as Hindenburg -- 7 million cubic feet of hot air. Oh, the humanity!
