Dawg fan

Only Boob has the time, energy and inclination to go backand sift through his posts to refute you.  Yes, once in a while he tries to be gracious...but its a ...what did call the UR td pass?????........a fluke.

As evidenced by his last post.  And Bob, I will be happy to forward the emails to ou if you dont believe me.

Gray Fox

And we were all getting along so well the last couple of weeks. :o

Let's talk football.  At this point only Whittier is out of the picture for the championship, and even they can be spoilers.

Great game for Mazerai. He was unconscious. Oxy couldn't stop him. I also recall that Oxy made the D-III playoffs, and won their first round game against Claremont before losing in the second round to Puget Sound. How did the Redlands traveling freak show do? Oh, yeah, 9-15, 5-9 in the conference.

By the way, that's three in a row, Hindenburg. How does that make you feel?

OxyBob

The traveling freakshow is coming to a close. Bad things for the SCIAC when they get a legit hoops coach in place at Redlands. I feel just fine, Redlands football will be back. This case scenario has already happened.

Hindenburg, Jr., the day that I care what you (or any of your alter egos), RFB, Dawgfan1, or anyone else thinks about anything I post on a public Internet message board for sports fans, I will just go ahead and kill myself.

By the way, last night I sat with some of the Oxy players' parents and family members, some of whom are avid readers of this message board. You have cultivated quite a following! Decorum prevents me from repeating their comments. I will say, however, that they were cringe-worthy.

OxyBob

I will tell you exactly what I said. That you're full of hot air and should be ignored. I can't even heed my own advice. What can I say though, I love trading banter with those that jumped on their school bandwagon in 2004. Well, I might be wrong. Maybe it was 2001.

How'd skating in just ahead of Cal Tech in the standings feel?

Sorry, I go back a bit further than that, through the good and the bad. I even traveled to Pella, Iowa, for the 71-0 shellacking at the hands of Central in 1985. Believe me, that was no fun. Right now I enjoy seeing Oxy have their current football success, even more so because it drives you Redlands guys absolutely nuts.

And I love bantering with fans who are still bragging about when they strapped on their leather helmets and played at Alma Mater State way back when.

OxyBob

Sure, I sleep well knowing I played when we monkey stomped your Tigers. I sleep even better knowing that Oxy will be pulling a Laverne after this year.

I can't believe that you went to Pella . . . I've been to Iowa in the winter enough to know how much that sucked.

I stand amazed . . . well, I guess I'm really sitting . . . but am nevertheless amazed by the degree of fandom you possess . . . is that something that grew post graduation or did this exist during undergraduate years as well?

Probably watching from the stands as an undergraduate as well.

Or from his computer.  Ok ...I'm done with bashing Bob. I'll just ignore the sarcasm from now on like RFB suggested.

dawg gone it

I know I said I was going to ignore you but...this is really the last reply....I did a google search on the blue what and krill, and discovered that sometimes the blue whale keeps it's mouth open too long while feeding and chokes to death.  Just a thoght. ;)

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Looking back I now know that Pella, Iowa, in winter is really Dante's Sixth Circle of Hell, only much, much colder, especially when your team's being destroyed.

I loved my experience at Oxy, and I've been a staunch fan since the first day I went there until now. It's great fun. Sometimes I have to fend off the knuckleheads from Redlands, though me vs. them is like a blue whale vs. krill.

Eat 'em up, Tigers!

OxyBob

Mr. Knucklehead to you. Nice to see that you played in the band at Oxy.

Football Fan-atic

You guys have summed up the Redlands/Oxy game pretty completely so I'll just add this... Once the Redlands receivers start hanging on to the bullet passes Saras throws Redlands will really start racking up points.

One thing that really urked me was seeing an Oxy defensive back that was beaten by a Redlands receiver intentionally push the receiver so as not catch the ball and score a sure touchdown.  I believe it was during  the second quarter.  He chose to take the penalty to stop the touchdown.  Some may think that is good strategy.  I think it is poor sportmanship and there should have been 2 penalties, pi and unsportsmanlike conduct.  Anybody who disgrees with this doesn't belong in sports.  I think the pi penalty should be taken from the point of infraction like in the pro's.  That would discourage this kind of playing.

Are you kidding me...you can't be serious.   ???

If you're beat for a TD, you drag that dude down on his ear!  What's better a "sure TD" or 15 yards?

Now here's where we can get into an interesting debate.  Is it ok to cheat and take the penalty in order to win? (Pass interference is illegal, therefore cheating and you're punished with a penalty).

While on the surface, Downtown48's position seems ok, it's a slippery slope . . . let's consider:

1.  Instead of pass interference it's an intentional face mask.  That's illegal as it's dangerous.  Is it ok to face mask to save a td?
2.  In rugby, is it ok to head/neck tackle to save a try even though it might create serious injury?
3.  Should I teach my young son that in soccer it's ok to trip a player to save a goal?

See where I'm going here?

If it's ok to cheat in order to win, when is it ok to cheat and not ok to cheat?  Sadly, I think that this discussion, or the notion of "it's ok to break the rules in order to win" (aka the ends justify the means) is one of the sources of the problems we face as a society.

Now, I disagree w/ Football Fan-atic with his assumption it's a strategy, thus implying it was coached.  I'm guessing that it was a desparation move by a player who was beat . . . not a taught reaction.  I can tell you that when I played, we were never taught to cheat or to "drag that dude down on his ear" if we got beat by a receiver.

I know that there are many lawyers who will cheat to win . . . I'm not one of them . . . if you want to be treated fairly, if you want to have your opponent play by the rules, then you have to play by the rules as well.  I think it's called the golden rule or "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" . . . I think it is the sole common thread among all major religions and the basis for civilized society . . .

Ah, but then we were talking football weren't we?

And that my children, is the end of the sermon.  I'll put the soapbox away now.

Say goodnight Gracie

Thanks, tooth, for raising some interesting points.

Sorry for using a basketball example on the football board, but what about the widely accepted practice of fouling a player on his way to a breakaway basket (remember that until about 10 years ago you pretty much had to decapitate the guy to get an intentional foul call)? Is that the same or different than intentional PI by a corner who's been beaten?
