That's the first thing you've written that's been remotely inteligible.  Tell your friend thanks for the rebuttal, it was a good read.

And for the record the World Cup is an amazing experience -- So help me... I'll be in S. Africa in 2010.

As for soccer's regular season I couldn't be less interested.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

This week's games...

I think a rebounding CMS stands a chance against the Who.  Probably the best game to watch in the SCIAC.  CMS 35 - CLU 31

I'll go with a Redlands win over PP... they've got to be due, right?  UOR 17 - PP 10

Oxy over La Verne.  Oxy 42 - La Verne 17

Whittier over Chapman in a close one, unfortunately the rest of D3 doesn't seem to notice.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Oswald, soccer's "regular season" is not the rubbish they play in this country that they call "Major" League Soccer.  The true regular season takes place in England, Spain, Italy and Germany and in the "majorest" of all major leagues, the Champions League.  Check out an English game on FSW some Saturday morning and, if your a soccer fan, you'll get hooked, saying to yourself, "man I wish I was at that game; what an atmosphere."

Oxy Bob spoke of Iowa as the Sixth Circle of Hell.  I think his seventh circle of hell is going to an EPL game in Liverpool wearing a ManU shirt with a bunch of Redlands fans.

What a great description of soccer . . . sounds like some soccer players could be tough enough to step it up to rugby!   ;D

Which reminds me of the old saying:

"Soccer is a game for gentlemen played by hooligans. Rugby is a game for hooligans played by gentlemen"

And remember, rugby players eat their dead.

cheers,

Back to the sport at hand, football.  The Bulldogs have obviously hit rock bottom as a program.  First 0-4 in Maynard's tenure, but they have a chance to win out if they work hard and want to.  I know the Cal Lu game will be tough, but they could come into the game and overlook the Dawgs like the Dawgs did to CMS in 03.

EastCoastStag

Oxy Os,
Did you really just pick CMS over Cal Lu? I am impressed. I agree. Should be the best game to watch. Played CLU very well last year and much closer than the score. With a more balanced offense and 20 passes not going to ONE WR this year, I'll say I like your prediction. I am still concerned.... our WR's are tiny and same goes for our DB's. Our Backers are goingto have to own sideline to sideline to win. Also must run effectively at all times and hit all open 'ceivs. If the special teams is as bad as they were at Oxy..... I am afraid hope dims. However, all in all very positive.

However, it leads to an interesting possibility: a 3-way tie for the conference perhaps. Maybe maybe not. Going on little to no sleep here... but Oxy beats CMS; lets say CMS beats CLU; and IF CLU was to beat Oxy (don't think they will, but I think it will be a slugfest and a good one)... that would be an interest senario... of course all depending on CMS running the table after an upset at CLU. Just a thought to think about. Probably won't happen. But for me, something worth thinking about. For the time being, I'll be looking forward to a great game against CLU.

As for your game, giving LaVerne 17 points is bold. I wouldn't give them more than 10... unless the 2nd teamers come in earlier than theydid against CMS. 2nd string QB, he's going to be good.

Now come on... I know we aren't the hugest UoR fans, however.... Seeing where they are at this point- I can safely say that they should be able to drop more than 17 on PP. However, a loss to PP and it could get really bad out there.

It's nice to see the UoR fans admit the program has hit bottom (at least in current history standards). Granted they have played solid teams. However, 0-4 is 0-4. Now, none of us wish them ill, we need a strong conference and they dohave tradition ontheir side. But the only way to get over hitting rock bottom is to admit it. Sounds like an AA meeting. But trust me, I've been at rock bottom on a football field more than once in my career. HS, and twice (with two different programs) in college. That all being said... it seems as if they are still overlooking teams and acting as if they are the BSD of the conference.  W or L, CMS will be gunning for a down Redlands and so will everyone else. To think about CLU now is suicide, complete suicide.

Eye of da TIGER

ECS, yeah thats an extremely interesting scenario! ;) But back to reality for a moment and I think Redlands has a better chance of being tied for first in the SCIAC than CMS does.  I dont see them beating the Who, but we can always hope.
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

EastCoastStag

Strictly conjecture. Can't fault me for wanting it. It would be nice for us. As for Redlands... I just have to disagree. Any other year I would say heck maybe there will be a freeforall at the top, but I just see Redlands dropping two more- CLU and CMS. That would be a terrible record.. but I think after the '04 comeback (almost) at Redlands and the '05 asskicking we took at home... that CMS will shake it off and pull one out at Redlands. I'm sure the Redlands fans will disagree as they lack all respect for us and think they should have dominated us even when they lost severely.... always passing the buck instead of saying simply "we lost". I just can't see a 5-4 Redlands near the top of the conference... At the beginning of the year I thought they would go 5-4 and now 3-6 is a distinct possibility. I won't backpeddle on that. The best Redlands finishes is a strong 4-5.
Anyways... extreme scenario..... late nights and early mornings provide for odd dreams. I'd take a 6-3 year for CMS, especially with the character of the frosh that came in. Spent time on the sidelines recently... good kids, care about the game, and are (most importantly) willing to commit to the offseason. It would be nice to have a 'ceiv group not committed to being the best drinkers in the SCIAC.

Hmmmmm, not sure why Cal Lu will all the sudden be the underdog?  Obviously I am a "Who" fan, but they have won 18 of 19 (I know, I know.  OXY crushed them last year :D).  WHy all the sudden does a team like CMS become the team that will beat CLU?  I have no idea what kind of a team CMS has, and I realize all road games are tough in the SCIAC, but I just dont get that prediction.

*Side note*  I understand that this is an OPINION based board.  Just wanted to hear some reasons.

It seems clear that some changes need to be made in Bulldog land. The problem seems to be clear to about 99.9% of the fans and former players. I think that it's time for a new OC. The Bulldogs have the best D in the conference and one of the worst offences in the history of Bulldog Football. You can't win many games with an offence that averages 7.5 points per game.

Just a thought for those of you that think the OC should stay. Many of you have commented that the OC is a great coach that has bad talent. Maybe you should take the time to look at the website and see which coach is the recruiting coordinator. Please let me know what you think.

I usually give a karma point to someone making their first post.  I think I'll pass in this case. :-\

TB:Yeah it is opinion.
From my personal perspective- of course I think we can win every game.
From my unbiased perspective as an observer of college football- people tend to go with the decent team struggling to find its identity. Strong win, dominating, over a good Kenyon squad that finished 2nd to Wabash in the NCAC last year. Then an ass kicking at the hands of Oxy and UPS. Follow that with a hard-fought win over an always tough Chapman. To any outside observer, it is a young, but above average team looking to forge an identity. A win over CLU gives them that.
To an Oxy fan- they would like CLU to have a loss going into the Oxy CLU game.
Can't really say for sure what kind of team CMS does have at the moment. I am still trying to put my finger on it. However, if I could, I wouldn't share it with you this week.

But my personal reasons? Balance spread option rushing attack. Several decent backs including a shifty QB. Accurate QB who does an above average job at threading the needle. Doesn't throw more than 20 times a game, but has a good completion percentage. Possession WR's. Decent pressure from the DL on the QB. Above average group of LB's who can run the field. Good safeties.
Like you said- it is all opinion... I don't think people are making CLU the underdog... however, based on CMS searching for an identity and based on people's desire for an upset- that is where predictions come from. However... if opinion won football games... this board would have OXY CLU and UoR all tied at 9-0 somehow?????????? with CMS at 1-8 somewhere in there. This is why the games are played.

Gray Fox:

Just trying to start a discussion about a legitimate issue that this board has been talking about. I've been on the outside looking in for a while now and I thought it was time to jump into this discussion board. I don't really care about karma points. I just want your opinion on the issue.

Tom Brady

ECS-  Good response.  I like the fact that you have some stuff to back it up with.  I am going to try and get off of work this weekend (damn Saturday shifts) and head down to CMS to watch the game.  Not really sure  what kind of team CLU has either.  Kind of hard to judge when their opponents are like 3-15 combined.  I think CLU won by a few TD's last year, but that was last year.  From what I have seen CLU has a much better "D" this year but the offense has been so-so.   Hopefully it will be a good game and one worth driving to.....if I can got out of work.

Gray Fox

Having seen the Trinity game and listened to the Oxy game, it is obvious that offense is the weak link.  But it is improving.  Remember that Redlands has now played three top D3 teams.  I doubt that is true for anyone in D3 at this point.

It is possible for them to win out in the SCIAC, especially if opponents write them off.

On another point, I think the Oxy / La Verne game will be very close.  That will be the game to watch in the SCIAC this week.
