It is  a super facility.  I went over to see it the other day.  I played in a league that used the old gym......it was like playing in the dark.

Eagle-

The official dedication is set for October 21st (during Homecoming Weekend).
Please see: http://www.clusports.com/news/3088/

They've been playing Volleyball in it already and enjoyed a nice turnout from students and the greater community.  I've been in it a couple of times and it's everything it was promised to be.  I hope many of you get a chance to check it out in the near future.

Now that is a nice facility. It should be a close battle between Redlands and Cal Lu  for who has the best overall facilities.

Consistent with my earlier dad like philosophical musings on character education as it relates to deep coverage, I'm going to suggest that DGI and OB get out of the sandbox, stop the verbal pissing match and act like the aged, wise, mature men you allegedly are, given that you're both older than I . . .

What will the young guys on this list think?  What kind of example is being set?  You could be scarring them for the rest of their lives . . . !!!  :o :o :o

For the love of whatever god(s) to whom you pray . . . if any . . . . . . STOP . . . don't make me come and knock your heads together (making me, I guess, the Moe to your respective Larry and Curley) . . . nyuck, nyuck, nyuck . . .  ;D

From Oxy:

Tiger Football Streak Hits 21

Occidental set a new school record for consecutive wins in the regular-season (21) on Saturday, defeating Redlands 24-10 in a hard-fought battle at Ted Runner Stadium.  With the victory, Occidental improves to 4-0 overall, 2-0 SCIAC, and maintains its #11 national ranking in D3Football.com.
The Tigers' current streak, which began with a  31-6 win over Lewis & Clark Sept. 18, 2004, eclipses the previous mark of 20 established from 1983-1985.  There have been close games and some not-so-close but veteran head coach Dale Widolff praised the team's overall commitment to success.
"We have guys willing to sacrifice for the good of the team, guys who don't care about their personal statistics,"  says Widolff.  "From the starters to the scouting team, they are concerned with doing their jobs and helping us improve as a football team."
Redlands (0-4, 0-1 SCIAC) came in with a solid defensive scheme, holding the high-powered Occidental offense to 283 total yards, the lowest since a 35-7 victory over La Verne in 2003.  But it didn't look that way in the beginning as Occidental marched 64 yards in six plays on its opening drive, culminating with a 22-yard pass from Andy Collins '07 to Mike Winchell '07 just 1:46 into the game.
The Tigers were then held scoreless until 5:07 of the second quarter when Thomas Joraanstad '07 booted a 27-yard field goal to make the score 10-0.  The Oxy defense recovered a fumble, stopped the Bulldogs on 3rd down from the Oxy 29, and blocked a  field goal attempt in the first half.
Redlands got its offense going early in the second half with a ten-play, 60-yard drive, scoring on a 22-yard Chris Saras pass to Jake Lacey on third and eleven.  Sean Conway tacked on a 26-yard field goal on the Bulldogs' next possession, a 12-play, 51-yard drive, to knot the score at 10-10.
Occidental answered on its next possession, using a Redlands pass interference penalty and an 11-yard completion to Matt Andersen '08 to advance to the Bulldogs 39-yard line.  Andersen rushed 17 yards on 4th and 1 from the 30, followed by a 13-yard touchdown scamper 13 seconds into the fourth quarter.
An interception by Tim Tanous '07 killed the Bulldogs' next drive and freshman Alex Groh '10 pinned Redlands at its own three with a 47-yard punt moments later.   With a drive start at midfield, Collins completed passes of 11 and 15 yards to Winchell and sealed the win on a five-yard touchdown run with 2:28 remaining.
"I was pleased with the way the team responded," offered Widolff.  "We haven't been in that situation very often so far this season and I was proud of how the team responded."
Tanous made ten tackles, eight solo, to go with the interception.  Joe Zackary '07, the Tigers' leading tackler the first three games made nine stops.  Anthony Ostland '08 contributed 6 tackles from the linebacker spot.  James Sabo '08 and Alex Wertheimer '10 anchored the defensive line while Daniel Tromello '08 led the secondary. Collins completed 14 of 27 attempts for 194 yards and Andersen carried 20 times for 95 yards.
The Tigers face another road test this weekend with a 1pm date against the La Verne Leopards at Ortmayer Stadium.  La Verne (1-3, 1-1 SCIAC) defeated Pomona-Pitzer 20-19 last Saturday and gave Occidental all it wanted last year at Homecoming, trailing 24-23 at halftime.
"Our ability to focus on each opponent and not look ahead has been one of the keys to this current streak," concludes Widolff.  "La Verne is a physical team that has given us problems in the past.  We'll have to play well to earn a victory."

Rock-Paper-Scissors?

I think the more erudite refer to it as "Roshambo", perhaps from the French "Rochembeau"

And to prove that you're not the only one who knows how to google, here's a little relevant passage I found:

Genesis
And the Lord did look down upon the earth and saw the land barren and without form. And he did create from the clay of the earth the rock in His image. And he did set upon the land a multitude of rocks that they should cover the landscape, and all was good. But the Lord grew tired of the lifeless landscape and so He set upon the land the living tree, that paper should be fashioned from, to cover the rock, and all was good. But once again, the Lord grew uncomfortable with His creations; there was an imbalance, with all that is paper being above all that is rock, and the Lord could not accept that any form should be above all, accept for He Himself. And the Lord did set upon the land, in the almighty scissors, crafted by man and machine, so that the scissor might cut the paper, and show that no one shall be above all others. And the mighty rock, the original of the Lord's creations, did smash the scissors here and there, to keep the Almighty's balance.

Tooth-------, You crack me up old man when you said "For the love of whatever god(s) to whom you pray . . . if any . . . . . . STOP . . . don't make me come and knock your heads together (making me, I guess, the Moe to your respective Larry and Curley) . . . nyuck, nyuck, nyuck . . .  ---

Just funny that you old farts bring stuff up like this............

Btw, Coach widolff is right in that Oxy's ability to focus on each opponent and not look ahead has been one of the keys to this current streak,". And on how "La Verne is a physical team that has given us problems in the past.  We'll have to play well to earn a victory."
This was one of his trade mark "words of wisdom" that he always gave out every week. More importantly, it helped us understand how to stay focused and fired up.
"Statistics are used much like a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, not illumination."--Vin Scully

"I don't really care," he said with an impish smile. "It's all about the Dodgers. I don't think anyone really watches hockey anymore.".....Tiger Woods

One, I have no adverse relationship with dawg or anyone for that matter. I follow the sage wisdom of Pat Coleman, per my profile signature.

Two, dawg said he was not going to reply to my posts, yet he continues to do so. The man obviously can't be trusted.

Three, if I can't poke fun at dawg, then I'm afraid it'll have to be you, but after all this time you should be used to it.

Ah, you know me Bob . . . just trying to make a buck, getting this mediation practice off the ground . . . but clearly you're too smart . . . seeing right through me . . .  :D

Browneagle, I live to entertain young Oxy alums . . . I'll be here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress.   ;D

Any Bulldogfans going to the PP game??????

I sure would like to meet some of you at a local pub before the game for a cold one.....or two...or more!

I think the team could use all the support we can give them on Saturday.

DGI
If you plan on consuming in Claremont- I would suggest a couple of places. Heroes (in the Village); the Press (in the Village); there are also some sports pubs on Foothill as you go west towards the City of Pomona.
Heroes is nice place. Good selection of beer and the larges are large. Decent nachoes. And you get to throw your peanut shells on the floor. Press.... little more hipster and counter culture. A place where Oxy Bob might feel at home. Not bad overall though.

EastCoastStag

If nothing else, I am sure there would be many a keg to be found on the CMC campus. Beer is, in our humble opinions as students and/or alums, the only thing that allows us to tolerate anything happening on the Pomona campus.
