how'd I do?

Menlo is part of the NWC this year. But the auto bid comes into affect after the league has been at 7 teams for two years I believe. That means the NWC goes pool A with the 2008 season.

All this talk about the playoffs.....dont forget that beisdes the Oxy-CLU game there is the CLU-UR game.

I can guarantee that Redlands will love to play the role of the spoiler.  Also, I am sure they want to use each game as a stepping stone for next year......a win against CLU would give them a big confidence boost for 2007.

OK Guys, humor me on this one and please, no wishful thinking comments. What happens if UR makes a run and wins the remainder of the games, including CLU and CLU beats Oxy? Is the SCIAC winner declared by a coin toss since there would be a 3-way tie or do the pre-season games play a roll in the decision?

They are tied regardless.  Even a two way tie does not give the "championship" to the winner of the game between the co-champions.  I don't know how the playoff representative is chosen by the SCIAC.

DGI-  Before I ask you my question I want to be clear that I am NOT trying to start a pissing match with you.  I admire your dedication to Redlands but I am wondering one thing....why would Redlands be able to beat Cal Lu this year when the "Who" has beat them the past 2 years when Redlands had a stronger team?  I understand that its a new year and all that but I just dont see it happening.  Cal Lu is a pretty strong team now and Redlands is on a little bit of a slide (which I am sure will be fixed very soon) which would make me think Cal Lu would be the favorite.  Just wondering....

I also really understand that there is a lot of football yet to be played.  If it all works out the way I hope, there will be a heck of a game in Thousand Oaks in a few weeks.  I am also pretty sure that it is Homecoming for Cal Lu.  Should be a great croud, might need to bring in some more of those god-awful bleachers.  Who knows, I might even want to meet a few of you OXY fans over a spicy hot dog from the snack bar.

Dear Tom,

I agree that CLU is the favorite and that I am not suggesting otherwise. I have watched the dawgs play three times and the defense is outstanding and getting better each week.  The offense showed some life last week and if they can become more consistent and eliminate the turnovers, UR will be very tough to beat.

Maybe I am seeing things through rose colored glasses, and I'm sure that phrase will get quoted, but, watching the Whitworth game, the turnovers made a significant difference in the outcome of the game.  Now, I am not saying, but for the turnovers UR wins, but, it most definetlyis a much closer and much different game.  The int's put Whit in UR territory at least twice that I can remember and maybe three times.

With a productive offense, the same holds true of the Oxy game.

I listened to the Trinity game and I got the same impression.

Chapman, I cant explain other than the defense was outstanding and the offense moved the ball but lacked consistency and I think there were 7 fumbles.

Now, if the offense can become somewhat productive and score 2-3 td's per game....this team could most definetly beat CLU.

Thats not a prediction, its just my opinion.  I have been around football all my life, I dont profess to be a know it all, but I think my opinion is based upon simple facts.

I think it will be a good game and I am definetly throwing the big tailgate party for that game in the parking lot for all my Post Pattern friends...

Tom Brady

Thanks DGI.  If I can get away from the family for the day I will join the tailgate party.
Just wondering too, have you been able to see Cal Lu play this year?  I know you live in the area so I figured you might have been able to stop by.

Another note to all OXY fans.  When you guys (and girls) come up to Thousand Oaks, I would strongly suggest you come a little early and check out the new athletics building.  I drove by today and noticed a lot of work being done on the baseball stadium and it look sweet.  By far going to be the best in the SCIAC.  Looks like they are going for a real stadium look.  Here is a good picture of what they have done so far.....

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Tom,
No I havn't seen them play but believe me ...how I've heard.  One of kids on the team played with my son in Pop Warner and I can tell you...it hasnt been easy listening.  They sound like a great team and if they do manage to get past UR ;), I hope they make the playoffs and do well, in fact, I hope they beat Oxy.  Wouldnt it be nice to see a three way tie? :D

This morning's LA Times had an article that I thought was really good about parents and their child athletes....just something for all you new and soon to be dads to think about.  I am not a Sondheimer fan but this is a good article.

Athletes' Mental Health Still Should Be Top Priority

As the chorus of whispered "I told you so's" echoed down the halls of Chatsworth High, All-City shortstop Mike Moustakas lay in bed at home, his ankle broken, his days as a quarterback over after only one football game.

Everyone, from family members to friends, had warned him not to play football for fear an injury could jeopardize his promising baseball career, and now the worst-case scenario had happened.

[ed. note: remaining removed to protect Times copyright. Please link to stories instead of quoting them in their entirety. Thanks.]

From my personal experience positive reinforcement and support works wonders. Believe me, your kid feels bad enough if he/she has a bad game....you dont need to rub it in.  Look for the positive.  Just my opinion.
