Went to the Oxy-LV game.  1st game in over 20 years.  Saw my old teammate Billy Bob Dobson as line coach and Jim Kerman as the special teams coach.  Almost as gray as I am.  Anyway, I walked in just as Laverne opened the scoring.  After that, I did not see much of the Laverne offense.  They certainly were "offensive" committing multiple turnovers with 3 or 4 in the 3rd quarter alone and several dropped interceptions.  Collins seemed to be as advertised and the backup throws a nice ball.  I thought the LV QB was a tall, good athlete and should have run more.  Maybe it was the deficit but he certainly missed his receivers.  I think Oxy caught more of his passes than his own teammates.  It was a lot of fun.  I may have to go to the Pomonal game as I have a standing bet with a Hen friend.  Maybe a pre-game stop at Casa Bianca.

Tough break for Cal Lu!  Hats off to CMS as they might have ended the playoff hopes for CLU.  I realize that there is still a chance (with wins over OXY and AT Redlands) but it sure will be a lot tougher to do win the SCIAC.  I hope this loss doesnt hurt the draw to the OXY/Cal Lu game in a few weeks.  Good news for Oxy fans, they got rid of those god-awful portable buildings on the visitor side of the "stadium"

ECS-  I am sure you are very happy right now.  I was wondering if Jones played bad or did CMS do a great job against him?  I think I saw they only sacked him once, but his numbers were not good at all.  Sounds like CMS played a great game but I am really curious if CLU played that bad or were they just flat out out-played?

El Tigre

Went to the ULV vs. Oxy and it was a good gamesoncidering it was raining a little and OxyBob singing Io Triumphe.  I think oxy's true self came out today ... the offense really showed what they are made of today.  Andy like usual was hitting every target, which seemed like it was mostly Rocky C.  Matt Anderson was running the ball hard like he always does.  Most importantly the o-line looked great.  I know that many of us were unsure what was going to happen, but they are coming together great and giving Andy all the time in the world to do what he does best.  The defense also brought their A game today.  I also liked the look that the second string guy were giving.  Most of the starters were out by the start of the 4th quarter and the young ones showed us that they want to play.

I will have to agree that Oxy's defense had more catches than ULV combined.  ** :DNOT TO ULV'S QB THROW THE BALL THE DARK JERSEY'S WHEN YOU AT HOME ;)**

Tough loss for Cal Lu tonight. ... Not sure what happened, but seems like it was a close game with it going into double overtime.  Hope this does cast any shadows over Cal Lu and that they keep their heads up for the rest of the season.  I am not sure what really happened at the Redlands game with the onside kick, but the way I look at it Redlands offense had score only 30 points in its first 4 games.  Their offense was finally showing some signs of life and maybe Maynard wanted to keep the momentum going.

EMAN51 ... I think we talked at the game today.  Glad to see that you are on here.

On the UR PP game......

Saras played a very good game and so the Zach#20 the rb, they combined to move the offense almost at will.  It appears that the ship is on course....Congrats to the dawgs......once again the defense was dominating.

As to the onsides kick, I was a bit surprised by it but I cant see how anyone could say it was unsportsman like with the score 26-7.  I did see some unsportsman like conduct during the game but it wasnt from the UR players.  It was my opinion after the game that PP was upset becasue in the late third or early fourth quarter UR was still trying to move the ball and score.  In UR's defense almost the entire offense consisted of 2nd and 3rd string guys.  I thought the UR staff did a great job of trying to reach a delicate balance of not trying to run up the score while giving the subs a chance to play.

That is always a tough call.  Do you bring in the 2nd and 3rd string qb , or rb's and basically just hand off the ball and spin the clock or do you let them have a chance to play.  In this case it was the UR 2nd and 3rd sting offense against the 1st string PP defense, so why not let the kids really play?

UR also did a nice job of substitution.  They didnt wholesale sub but mingled the 1st, 2nd and 3rd stirng guys together so there was some continuity.

Trying to be objective, UR did not appear in any way to be trying to run up the score.  In fact, the onside kick, may have been a misfire.  After the first UR td, the starting kicker missed the extra point and another kicker took over.  He might have just missed the ball trying to kick it into the corner.  Assuming it was onside...so what a 19 point lead is not a blowout.

Congrats to the dawgs and shame on those sagehens for such unsportsmanlike conduct.

If the UR offense plays the same the rest of the way they will be very tough to beat.

ps...thanks for the nice words and ........congrats to Stag Man, not boy, on a great win!!!!!  I'd give you plus k for your bold prediction if I could.  See ya next week at the game?

Yes Mr. Tigre I am sure it was me.  Thanks for sharing your personal experience of the past few years at Oxy.

Yes Mr. Tooth, I do know you.  You were part of the O-line when I first came to Oxy in the fall of '77 (following a transfer from West Point).  That line, as I recall, was anchored by D. Rentz.  Other notables including Jumping Joe Casner and Big Buck Buchanan and Lou Hook.  Good memories. I did try to reply to your note, but my status on this board did not allow me that opportunity.

Sorry Mr. Bob about not joining in on the Io Triomphe during the game.  Hell, I don't even know what that is.  However, it does not come close to the uplifting, ever enthusiastic "Boom Chick-a-Boom" voiced by Romeo Garcia back in the late '70s.  Maybe Pomona.

DGI;

thanks for the update.  INMO the 2nd and 3rd string need to be allowed to run the offense they will be expected to run if they get the start.  That's what game time is for.  So, for me that is that.

I know ECS is happy, unfortanuately Cal Lu's loss is a bad one.  I know there is a lot of football still to be played, etc etc.  But the history of this season could end up like last year.  Only the conf champ goes on.  Hopefully that will be Oxy.

However, I am sure Cal Lu will come strong when they play Oxy,  a win there will be big for their season.

I think DGI is  being PC. :o

Throwing a bomb is probably what upset PP.  But it was required as part of Wabby's development and to shed more light on the quarterback controversy at UR.

Gr(A)y Fox...(didnt want to mispell your name again) ;)

Saras played a great game...his best yet....there is no controversy.  He is the starter and deserves to be.  Dont start trouble. ;)

PP was a poor sport yesterday and their coach should be ashamed for allowing this to happen. Considering the difficulty Redlands has had on offense the first four games, they would have been justified in running up 100 points. What was wrong with an onsides kick? When you are ahead and you have an opportunity to practice something, why not?

"Adding insult to injury, the Bulldogs substituted third-string quarterback Matt Wabby on their final drive. On the first play, the freshman quarterback tossed a 76-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Patrick Harris. Smith rounded out the day with yet another successful extra-point kick for a final 14-46 score."

Welcome to college football Matt!

I wasn't starting trouble.  I just used the wrong word.

I was just trying to point out that there is another QB in the mix.

If saturday wasn't a weird out of wack day, we all would over heard that Chapman rolled over whitter. However, Whitter came out on top and beat a go chapman team

Wasn't this the same chapman team that beat Redlands just a few weeks ago?????

Btw, any of you Oxy or other SCIAc fans attending this weeks Oxy-Pomona game???? If you are, let me know. I think i'll be dancing again at the tailgate, just like the video that wildcat11 brought to our attention. Let me know though...

Fox...I know you are a trouble maker...always were always will be....keep up the good work.   ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D :D

Dawg fan........was that a qoute from the radio broadcast???

On the sportsmanship issue....the announcer for PP makes teams want to run it up on them.  For example....UR makes a big gain but a flag is down.....here is his announcement....

"The penalty is against the Bulldoga for holding.....(in as loud and as an excited  voice as you can imagine) that will bring it back and make it first and twenty"(in even a louder tone while almost laughing at the other team)

When the call is the other way....

"The penalty is against the hens...( In almost a whisper...What did he say ???  who was the penalty against???)

Everyone in the stands wanted to shoot the guy....it was not only irritating...it was unsportsmanlike.  And speaking of the stands...what a great turnout of Bulldog fans...they out numbered the hens contingent by at least 3-1.  The turnout speaks very highly of the support for the dawgs at 0-4 going into the game.  In meeting some of the parents they fly in from all over every weekend to see the dawgs and some of their kids dont even play.  The support of the fans at UR is incredible.

Fianlly....the all important issue of the snack shack.....PP may be the worst in the history of any sporting event anywhere...a folding table set up with ice cold dawgs, no pun intended, chips and soda.......not even a nacho to munch on.

GO DAWGS....GO DEEP......dawg gone it.

ps.......I would pay big bucks to hear Bob sing "that song" :D

Once again fellas and ladies.....I suggest one of the spicy dogs at Cal Lu.  They are much better than the Dogs at P-P.
I thought the score would change when I woke up but it didnt......again, congrats CMS on a big win
