TB I am assuming you are referencing Jones the QB. Well I will try to be as unbiased as possible.
CMS used several different fronts on D this year. To be honest, since I am now out of the system, I'm out of the loop. However, it was different than last year's approach for sure. Good use of backers and of dropping people off of the line depending on down and distance. Assigned a person to hit the QB (or attempt) on every play. I think that made a difference. At times, there were receivers/throws that should have been made. It appeared that he rushed them- possibly due to thoughts of getting hit?? I don't know. The CMS D made plays when it counted. It is hard to say that CLU underperformed or played poorly when there were several excellent plays in their favor. CLU had good success running straight ahead. I wonder why they did not try that more often. I give credit to the CMS D.
CMS O played well as well. The running attack wasn't up to snuff, or what CMS wanted. CLU did a good job of stopping that. However, like I said before- evenly matched teams. What CMS had- execution of big plays. 1) WR beats saftey for a TD. 2) Screen pass for TD. 3) the last TD in regulation (for CMS). WR got behind corner, pass in perfect location and the kid wasn't going to be stopped. Some call it lucky, I'll call it persistence. As I already said, it's hard to say CLU underperformed when they did do a decent job of shutting down the run and managed to keep the lead for most of the game. The blocking of the fieldgoal to end regulation? Good performance. CMS managed to keep CLU off balance with the shifiting defensive schemes and executed when it counted on offense.
Bottom line 1) CMS outplayed CLU on Sat. No let downs no excuses... they just played better. Go Stags!
Bottom line 2) they (CMS) are a team finding their identity. They matchup well with CLU and this showed it. I still think CLU is a good team... I do wonder if they might have overlooked this game. Post game they seemed shellshocked. All that being said, there is a chance for them to knock off OXY (no matter what OxyBob might say about losing to CMS).
As for CMS-how they react this week and how they prepare for Redlands is huge. It will determine whether they can continue to rise. The game better be out of their minds come Monday. Redlands is a wounded dawg and is still looking for SCIAC blood. Forget the CLU game and get ready for a hungry UoR. Execute and win that game... huge game and huge season. Get cocky... in for a humbling.

All that said... I just can't see the need for an onsides kick against Pomona. Yes you have struggled to score points.. but at that point you know you are winning and are clicking. Just blow them out without the kick. PP should have brushed it off. Neither team handled it well.

I know this isn't a D3 issue- but the U of Miami is a disgrace to football and to academic institutions. The entire school needs to be delt with.

Gray Fox

I'm a long time Miami hater, but I get the impression that they didn't start the brawl.

Oh FIU was fully involved... but I find it hard to think that Miami....... after the Peach Bowl stunt and the Louisville stunt didn't have some hand in starting this fight as well. Both teams are fully responsible. But I single out Miami because this is the third fight in a year and it is just embarassing. Larry Coker should be gone. Not for his W/L record. But, for the caliber of player he recruits and their behavior on and off the field. It is disgusting. Nothing more than ghetto gangbanging punks. I am sure the same can be said for FIU as well.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled DIII debate.

Still lovin' the win. 24 hr rule on this one. It'll be forgotten come tomorrow.

dawg gone it

I have a long time hatred fro Miami...since the army attire before the Penn St.game back in the early 90's or so.  Penn St. put a whoopin on them for it.

ECS.... I expect this weeks game to be a good one.  Home field advantage should help the dawgs...are you going?  I'd like to meet up with you.  I'll give you my cell # if you email me.

The 24 hour rule doesnt apply for last week. ;)

The onside kick is a legal play in football .It,s not the job of any coach who calls for an onside kick,to advertise it's coming nor to teach the opponnents team coaches how to defense the onside kick! The onside kick can be attempted at anytime during a game regardless of the score.Move on to more interesting postings and long live the onside kick!

This week's games...

I think a rebounding CMS stands a chance against the Who.  Probably the best game to watch in the SCIAC.  CMS 35 - CLU 31

I'll go with a Redlands win over PP... they've got to be due, right?

Oxy over La Verne.  Oxy 42 - La Verne 17

Whittier over Chapman in a close one, unfortunately the rest of D3 doesn't seem to notice.

Not usually one to do this, but I think the upset in Claremont warrants a little gloating.

I went 4 for 4 this week on pick 'ems with some tough ones to call.

Great game played by Oxy, sounds like both sides of the ball were playing well yesterday.  Looking ahead to the homecoming celebration this week.  See you there!
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Fox...I know you are a trouble maker...always were always will be....keep up the good work.   ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D :D

Dawg fan........was that a qoute from the radio broadcast???

On the sportsmanship issue....the announcer for PP makes teams want to run it up on them.  For example....UR makes a big gain but a flag is down.....here is his announcement....

"The penalty is against the Bulldoga for holding.....(in as loud and as an excited  voice as you can imagine) that will bring it back and make it first and twenty"(in even a louder tone while almost laughing at the other team)

When the call is the other way....

"The penalty is against the hens...( In almost a whisper...What did he say ???  who was the penalty against???)

Everyone in the stands wanted to shoot the guy....it was not only irritating...it was unsportsmanlike.  And speaking of the stands...what a great turnout of Bulldog fans...they out numbered the hens contingent by at least 3-1.  The turnout speaks very highly of the support for the dawgs at 0-4 going into the game.  In meeting some of the parents they fly in from all over every weekend to see the dawgs and some of their kids dont even play.  The support of the fans at UR is incredible.

Fianlly....the all important issue of the snack shack.....PP may be the worst in the history of any sporting event anywhere...a folding table set up with ice cold dawgs, no pun intended, chips and soda.......not even a nacho to munch on.

GO DAWGS....GO DEEP......dawg gone it.

ps.......I would pay big bucks to hear Bob sing "that song" :D

The quote on Matt is from the Redlands newspaper listed on the football website.

Sharing the love- congrats to Whittier. A solid win for them, especially the shutout. Well done noble Poets.

Congrats to ECS..... after a rocky start, you have made it into + k....way to go!  I would give yous some more if I could.

Tom Brady

One note-  The CMS/Cal Lu game was in Claremont, not Thousand Oaks.  Cal Lu always sucks on the road.......big smile to DGI's face :)

The karma thingie is really important to you, isn't it? Ever since you joined the board you've fretted about it: "Ok...what did do wrong to lose my one and only karma point?" Reply #1515 on: June 13, 2006, 01:51:49 pm

Well, I am going to help. I pledge that from now on, whenever I log on to this board and can do so, I am automatically going to give you a +k. Hold on a sec -- <click!> -- there' ya go, and I promise there'll be a whole lot more where that came from!

OxyBob
The guys on the MIAC board give each other karma all the time.  I call it "karma incest".   Something I never thought you two would take part in. ::)

I've go a new name for you Bob....historian..... ;)

You see some people have a sense of humor and understand it...others simply muddle through their lives with a dark cloud above their heads.  Prozac helps.

What a great weekend, Dawgs win...and the beloved black and gold now seem to thave their offense on track and Big Ben is back!....GO Steelers.

And historian...the announcer was obnoxious.

Oxy moves up two slots to no. 9 in this week's D3 poll, Whitworth moves to 11th from 12th and Linfield moves to 16th from 18th.
