Let me get this straight. In '02, OXY had kids who didn't even show up to the bus for the last road game????? I am assuming there were many freshmen in that group. Some simple math..... means they were seniors for football in '05.... and I wonder now why Oxy was humiliated in Linfield. Man, I've had bad senior leadership before, at no point did I ever play with seniors who had ever just not showed for a game at any point in their career.
Knowing this- makes me wonder if OXY is riding a wave of talent instead of good coaching or a commitment to a common goal. If that was the attitude of the players, that can represent the attitude of the players recruited at the time. If those indeed were the attitudes, I can't see players really taking recruits under their wings and working on them.
The situation could be this- a core group of players with excellent talent who happen themselves to be committed to a common goal and excellence, who happened upon OXY with more luck/accident than recruiting efforts. Who knows about the freshmen, sophs, and recruits. Save those who are starting, there could be a complete disconnect in terms of knowing the sacrifices it takes to 1) be excellent and 2) win.
At this point, I'm going to now reserve all judgement on the current "OXY dynasty" until much later in next year. Really wonder if the program, coaches, system, etc have anything to do with the success. We'll see when there is no Collins and a senior class with 2 (maybe 3) playoff appearances and titles leaves.

This isn't an attack on OXY or the current "streak" so let's no go getting bent out of shape here OXY folks. Just some musings and thoughts.

And yes ST, I get the point of your post. You didn't give a $hit.

Actually, you don't get the point and read far too much into it.  Your question . . . "what is time" struck me as being rhetorical . . . and it triggered the Chicago song in my brain, so I posted the lyrics, consistent with the earlier references to Schlitz, Hamm's, WWOS, and songs that one can't get out of their head.  Thought it was funny, but given the lack of reaction, amusing probably only to me (hey, you got to be willing strike out if you want to hit a home run).  Not intended as any disrespect toward you.

Now the musings you just posted about the character of Oxy players, that I could take issue with, but I think I'll refrain . . .

Santa Annas today with highs in the mid to low 80s - hopefully the winds will mellow a bit (they're supposed to) and Saturday will be perfect - clear and in the mid-70's.

Haha.  Well it's actually pretty simple, the same players that weren't showing up for games or had other problems on the team (and in school) either dropped out of Occidental or quit the team.  What remained makes up the championship teams you've seen the last few seasons.

So, there wasn't really a need for a giant rant in response to what ECS said.  No need to take cover.

Andersen Nabs SCIAC Honors
Los Angeles (October 25, 2006)

Occidental College running back Matthew Andersen earned Athlete of the Week honors in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Oct. 25.

Andersen rushed 14 times for 118 yards, his third 100-yard game of the season, in Occidental's 38-23 win over longtime rival Pomona-Pitzer.  Andersen scored the Tigers' second touchdown on a nine-yard scamper late in the first quarter, capping a seven-play, 75-yard drive in which he accounted for all but 11 yards of the team's offense.

He also caught four passes for 30 yards including a ten-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter.

Andersen, a native of Sacramento, California, is a Studio Art major.  He earned an All-SCIAC Honorable Mention in 2005.

Occidental (6-0, 4-0 SCIAC) is currently ranked 9th by D3 Football.com, 10th by Don Hansens' Football Gazette, and 10th by the American Football Coaches Association.  The Tigers continue SCIAC play this weekend with a 1pm date at Cal Lutheran (5-1, 2-1 SCIAC).
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

ECS: Again, As Os pointed out in his post, such players left after their 1st yr. stint. That year also helped bring back the since of urgency and focus that most players had seen in 01.

btw, How great is it to see that yet another tiger nabbing P.O.W. honors. After doing a good job at RB since the start of the season, I hope that Andersen continues to mustard out more yards on the ground.

Great weather and SCIAC crowning implications sure makes anyone wish that the Oxy-Cal Lu game should be played now. Oxy over Cal Lu by three T.D.'s

Looking forward to the game.

Rock-

The new Air Force One exhibit at the Reagan Library is pretty darn cool, regardless of your views on Reagan, and easily the kind of thing you could do for an hour or two in the morning.  It's right on the way to CLU (exit 118 at Madera Road and head south - Madera later becomes Olsen and you run right into CLU).  I would also give yourself time to look around the new Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center (which will be hard to miss when you're coming down Olsen).

There's not a lot of good dining options in the north end of TO (most are down by the 101), but there are a few.  In the Trader Joe's shopping center at the corner of Ave de los Arboles & Moorpark Road there's a good, independent,  Mexican place called Tres Amigos.  There's also a pizza/sandwich place and a pub that used to be a great place to get a burger and a beer when I was a student at CLU, I have heard decidedly mixed reviews of late.  Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the world's best donuts (yes, I'm serious) are available at Fresh Donuts.  Get a chocolate chip roll or apple fritter, and try not to ponder the nutritional value. ;)

What does this chocolatechip roll you speak of entail? Fat skinny kid is intrigued by the potential.

It is the single most dominant force in the history of the donut - usually about 7" x 5" x 3" in size - filled and covered with chocolate chips ;D
