And you don't think winning at Linfield merits moving up? Isn't Linfield a far better team than anyone Occidental has faced?

I don't know who is far better than whom, Pat, but Oxy beat CLU, a team that beat both Willamette and PLU in about the same way that Whitworth did.  CLU also didn't have to cough it up 7 times (1 turnover) for the Tigers to beat them.

I think it's fair to say that Whitworth has played a tougher overall schedule than the Tigers, but measuring them against common opponents doesn't necessarily tip the argument in Whitworth's favor.

The weather would be dry...I guess there could be some snow (since we've already gotten it)...but that doesn't cause near the problem than rain does.  But guaranteed it will be cold.  Probably colder than many of those Oxy boys have ever played in...good thing their fearless leader Andy Collins is from the great state of Washington, the cold shouldn't really phase him.

I agree with RFB...I think it will be a very close game.  I give the edge to Whitworth.  They have hugh receivers who also have speed.  They ppear bigger, stronger faster and have an excellent qb.  Collins holds Oxy in the game but Whit pulls away in the 4th quarter.  If this the first round matchup....it should be at Whit.  Tough game for both teams.

Do they both wear black helmut's?

You would be surprised. A few years in the Southern Cali sun can change anybody. Can't beat the weather or the beach in LA. Still the only two reasons why I live here.

Hey Rat boy . . . since when does what someone else posts warrant a logical conclusion related to my ability to question things?

And by the way, find anywhere in my posts where I criticized Pat for the rankings.  I was asking for feedback based on my perceptions.  My only criticism of Pat applies to the way he responded.

As for your own specious arguments  . . . they speak for themselves and, I trust, are accurate reflections of your own character and abilities .  . . or are they?

I wouldn't mind going down to LA to watch a game where the temp is above 50 degrees for a change! ;D

I'm working on it oxybob, It would be a great break form the cold just before ski season starts up.

Current temps for a 1pm kickoff right now are averaging between 66 to 80 degrees. Now that is some good playoff weather. I think it is time to move the Stagg Bowl to Southern Cali.

Your response was utterly disrespectful, lacking any indication of thought or substance.  I think you're capable of better.

No offense, but I gave you my No. 1 response in the message before. You just didn't seem to want to listen.

Hey Bob, let me know which flight you are taking on your raod trip..........Id love to come with you ;) :D

Obviously, Oxy has a chance at home, on the road, I'd pick Whit.  I would love to see the game.

I am sure that if Occidental were on the winning end ... or had managed to hold Linfield to 13 points ... you'd be trumpeting it as reason to move Occidental up.

Actually Pat,

If Occidental had beaten Linfield it would have meant that we beat a team that we were ranked above. Therefore, we should have beaten them. I would have expected Linfield to drop slightly, but that we would have stayed in the same place.

I think that what all the oxy fans are confused about it how two teams can barely win against teams that they are suppose to beat and then jump in the polls, but Oxy cleans up and drops three spots.

Yes, Linfield has been a powerhouse in the past, but with three losses this year they are obviously not the team they have been. I am not saying that they aren't good, I'm sure they are, they just obviously aren't as great as everyone seems to think they are based on PAST performances.

Maybe all the voters just can't believe that the Oxy guys can be both that smart and that good at football ;)

LT....the problem with your logic is that not everyone was of the opinion that Whitworth would beat Linfield at Linfield.  To do so was a bit of an upset, despite their rankings.  Oxy has not played a team the caliber of Whitworth or Linfield, CLU may be a solid team but they lost to CMS.  Linfield's losses were to very good teams.

Linfield is not as good as they were the last five years but barring seven turnovers they would still give Oxy all they could handle this year.  I just don't think they can resist turning it over.  They're averaging about six for the last three weeks.  Make no mistake Linfield isn't the team they were last year but the drop wasn't that far and I know Oxy isn't 42 points better.  Too bad Linfield won't be around to prove it, but such is life when you can't hang on to the rock...good luck in the big dance!  :)

Occidental cleans up against teams that aren't in the same class, though. What is Oxy proving, that it's better than Cal Lutheran and La Verne and Colorado College? We all knew that already. We're taking a leap of faith that Oxy is much better than that by having them in the Top 15 at all.

Linfield, with a loss to a D-II scholarship program and two Top 10 teams, is much better than anyone on Occidental's schedule. Whitworth proved more in 60 minutes on Saturday than Occidental has all year. But before Saturday, Whitworth had not proven that.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what changed on Saturday. And the poll reflects it, as it should.

I like your math ;)
