Sounds like the Dawgs and Cats have someting in common.......turnovers. :( :( :(

If turnovers made a difference in anyone's season...it was the Bulldogs. :(

Pat,

Thank you for the explination, but it doesn't mean I have to like it ;)

Good one Tiger...it would be interesting, I know you'd love a little payback.  It would be a much better game this year!   :)

I think that what all the oxy fans are confused about it how two teams can barely win against teams that they are suppose to beat and then jump in the polls, but Oxy cleans up and drops three spots.

Yes, Linfield has been a powerhouse in the past, but with three losses this year they are obviously not the team they have been. I am not saying that they aren't good, I'm sure they are, they just obviously aren't as great as everyone seems to think they are based on PAST performances.

Occidental cleans up against teams that aren't in the same class, though. What is Oxy proving, that it's better than Cal Lutheran and La Verne and Colorado College? We all knew that already. We're taking a leap of faith that Oxy is much better than that by having them in the Top 15 at all.

Linfield, with a loss to a D-II scholarship program and two Top 10 teams, is much better than anyone on Occidental's schedule. Whitworth proved more in 60 minutes on Saturday than Occidental has all year. But before Saturday, Whitworth had not proven that.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what changed on Saturday. And the poll reflects it, as it should.

Pat, that's a much better explanation than the one you gave me, which only hinted at the detail set forth above.  I think the "leap of faith" comment tells us how tenuous the voters have been on Oxy's placement.  Moreover, the analysis of the import of the Whitworth/Linfield match (and presumably the Central/Coe match) in the minds of the voters is now apparent.  As LT said, they both beat lower ranked teams so it seems expected, but I see how you all got there.

See, we're not unreasonable, just looking for information. ;)

Still a long shot possibility, no?  (Very long shot . . . I'll admit)  We'd love to host ya'll here in the glorious South.   8)

Well Pat's post as referenced by ST does help a lot.  Sorry we had to go through the numerous posts to get to that point.  "leap of faith"  does seem to be a slight insult considering past record but not unexpected considering overall SCIAC accomplishments in post season and the ubiquitious scheduling discussion.

I am looking forward to post season.  I am sure Oxy will finish strong and then see what happens to travel.  Never been to the North West but would prefer a SoCal game!!  Of course maybe the powers that be will surprise us  (LOL  :D :D)  But another match up against two high powered offenses (Whitworth and Oxy) would be fun.

509 rat:  I will choose to ignore your little snipe.  What I pointed out was inconsistency.  I did not specifically address top 25 but rather the inconsistency between the top 25, the regional rankings, and playoff selections (with a large measure of $$ for travel coming into play).  Afraid I don't see the illogic in all of that.

And you don't think winning at Linfield merits moving up? Isn't Linfield a far better team than anyone Occidental has faced?

I really don't see what I said in that post you all love that I didn't say in the first post on the subject, above.

Looks like we will not be meeting up with the Cats from Linfield during the playoffs this year >:(

and you are lucky they turned over the game and the NWC crown to the rats after only 85 yards..

The Linfield fans are really having a meltdown. They have been so good over the last four years that they are still in a state of denial. Pretty big blow to go from National Champs to out of the playoffs within two years.

Wow, that takes huge brass balls to make a statement like that especially coming from a team that has had losing records two of the last three seasons and has never been out of Round 1.

Nice work though RFB...you got me...I bit!!!   ;)
