Schafer  had a heck of a year, I personally thought he would make 1st team.  There was no player in the league that played any harder than he did.  At times, he singlehandedly carried the Bulldog offense.  He will be a star the next two years.

From the look of Bob's post, it appears that he is the only one.....honking.

To my understanding, coaches cannot nominate their own players for All-Conference selections.

My guess is some of the people who received all-conference accolades without the corresponding stats, did so for their impact to their respective team.  Something that isn't measured through statistics. Joe Camacho did not lead in rushing by any means, but opposing coaches may have felt as if he was an impact player for the Leo's, which is why he got all-conference.

As for myself, I led the SCIAC tight ends in receiving, but I didn't receive any accolades.  Stats aren't everything for all conference selections, which is a good thing.

As for Schafer, he was pretty good, but he fumbled too much.  Coaches knew he had tendencies to fumble.  Had it not been for his fumbles, first team for sure.

This is a thread coming from the basketball board.

In a shocking development, I would like to nominate a CLU player for consideration for "best pro career by a player from a SCIAC school" ;)

Brian Kelley played linebacker for 11 years for the New York Giants.  He was at CLU in the early 70's, the Kingsmen weren't in the conference yet, but did play most of the conference teams and were similarly aligned with the NAIA.

Oh, sorry but thanks for playing, as noted, Cal Lu played most of the SCIAC teams but, also as noted, was not a member of the SCIAC.  Accordingly, while in an alternate universe where the Kingsmen had the good fortune to join the SCIAC early, he might very well be the top dog . . . we're sadly limited by reality . . . or at least of our perception of reality . . . isn't life just an illusion?  Should we discuss quantum physics and string theory?  Or is that string cheese theory?

But I digress, you may pick up your parting gift from the lovely Carol Merrill.  Thanks for playing.

That's why making a blanket statement of "best ever" will bring debate.

Golly, I had hoped Tooth would at least play along a little  :D

I hereby withdraw my first nomination, and make a new nomination:

I would like to nominate Brian Kelley from CLC (now CLU) for consideration as the player from a Southern California small college who went on to have the most successful playing career in the NFL ;D

RFB's right, of course.  It's hard to argue "best ever". I guess I'm the kind of guy who just likes to hear where people are coming from.

Congrats to all who made the All-Conference teams!

According to the Oxy website: http://www.oxy.edu/x9877.xml

"Collins is also a candidate for the Gagliardi Trophy, given annually to the most outstanding player in Division III."

Is this true?  I don't see Collins on the list of Gagliardi finalists on the front page of the D3football site.

They may have nominated him, but he was not a finalist.

Leopard TE 8,

Any Fullback who punts deserves to be a first teammer.

Leopard TE 8,

Any Fullback who punts deserves to be a first teammer.

By that rationale, the CMS quarterback got screwed cause he didnt get anything and he punted too.  Now if we're talkin about J Beezy playing fullback and punter, you're looking at an All-American.

Here is a question to consider.... What if Andy Collins comes back for his senior season? (Outside shot but still a possibility)

Dirty Harry

Chalk up a fourth SCIAC title, and offensive POY, if Collins comes back to Oxy.
