According to the article, the defensive coordinator left, but CLU wants the offensive coordinator and offensive line coaches to stay. Nothing written about the assistant coach who didn't return dawg's phone calls, and who apparently didn't properly shake hands after a game according to dawg's high standards, while dawg stood there pouting.

Bob,

You have won the battle, let it go. You keep kicking the guy whenever you get a chance. You responded that you wanted nothing to do with the guy. You got your wish.

You're absolutely right. I apologize. Dei morti parla bene.

Bob,

I'll speak ill of the dead.  That is one poster that will not be missed.  He's in the poster graveyard with NWC not-so-greats: A.B., Honus, and Fattie.

Here's an article about Scott Squires' departure from Cal Lutheran:

CLU's Squires Leaving For CFL

Maybe Pete Carroll can be enticed to take over at CLU.

So what does this really mean for the CLU program vis a vis the other SCIAC football schools (Oxy, Redlands, etc) they compete/recruit against?

I have to think (although I do not have any actual info to support this assumption) that the studnet-athletes considering CLU are a fairly small group (relatively speaking) and probably are looking at CLU as well several of the other schools in the conference.  Does losing the coach this late in the admissions cycle set the CLU program back a season or two?

I mean, most HS seniors have probably already applied (if they didn't go the ED route).

I don't know enough to say what kind of impact Squires' departure will have on recruiting.  He has done good work in his 11 years heading up the program, and I think he's helped build a lasting positive culture around the program that will remain attractive to potential Kingsmen.

Although it might have been easier to make this transition in early December, I do think it's a great time in the life of the program, and the greater institution, to search for a new head coach.  The last three years represent the team's best run in recent memory, there are 17-18 starters returning from last year's 6-3 team, and CLU now has arguably the best fitness and training facilities in the conference.  The current situation at CLU is a far cry from a classic rebuilding situation, the ingredients are there for continued success.

I guess it goes without saying, but it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.  In the meantime, I pretty interested in the outcome of tonight's basketball game against CMS... :)

Thx for the response.  It really has seemed like CLU has built itself up into a very strong program.  I wish the Kingsmen and Coach Squires the best.

Your right Pat, thanks for taking the time to count ... its been tough without many fellow Leos!

I would have though Potaki would have been a candidate if he stayed in La Verne... hopefully getting the new facilities all squared away will help the Leos recruit. I think that Sublett could get the job done, but they also will need some help on the defensive side of the ball, something they have struggled in over the past couple of years. Any news on who the key returners will be???
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

Leopard TE 8

Tox could get the job done, I don't know that he'll want it now that he's back in Chicago with the Bears.

From what I've heard, there is a coach selection panel composed of some school officials as well as two current ULV players, which I think are QB Troy Doolittle and DL John Legerton.  Any decision will ultimately be made by the AD, but the panel is holding a great deal of influence in the process.  I also heard that they want to hire a ULV grad or someone who has Division III/SCIAC experience.

If I could hire the coach, it would be former Leo and LB Poly Jackrabbit Bjorn Biggles, but thats just my opinion.

I am siked and thrilled to see that Mr. Collins will have a great opportunity of a lifetime to show case his talent tonight when the "Texas v.s the nation" gets underway. Although, there might be other QB's ahead of him, expect to see him get plently of P.T. and hear the announcers tell you his background story. Again, here's wishing Mr. Collins luck and thanking him for representing the SCIAC and Oxy.

How could you not want Biggles.  If he were the coach, imagine how much jukes all the players would have  :D

Don't HC candidates have to have a Masters degree in something?  If so doesn't that rule out Presto?  Last I heard he just barely got a Bachelors.  Mad jukes SON!

RFB,

Whats your opinion and take on hiring an assistant who coached T.E.s and some WR's to suddenly lead the helm as the new O.C. at U.OR.?
Does this mean that UOR will be using the same Offense ( system)? Will he be making a new system or using Coach maynards old system? IMO, it Sounds like he'll be using the old system but is now in charge of figuring out when a certain play itself gets to be called in.??????
Not to sure how a former Defensive stud with limited offense of experince can take over at the O.C. position. I just hope that U.O.R  is not  Returning to Confusion and huge mistakes that it made on Offense this year, or the end results will sure be sad.
