Wow, almost two months left in the school year and these two school's (ULV and Cal Lu ) still do not have a H.C.
I hope that their recruits are not being discourged by having to listen to a random voice recorded message from coach S. and morel about why they should choose ULV or Cal Lu over their phones.

Btw, the campus times (at ULV) is dead silent on any information about coach morel's successor.

ULV- I heard that the provost stepped in and made the committee redo their process.  Basically, start from the beginning.  Crazy!

Ouch, Lost in translation. So much for having a productive spring practice at ULV this year.

I was told by a CLU friend April 1,2007 that a sign was posted above the  football locker room door that read: "CLU football going out of business".Perhaps that was an April fools joke? The CLU gridders are reportedly distraught about the long lengthy selection process and wondering if they will have the allowed 16 days of  spring training.Hang in there Kingsmen footballers. The new CLU president is a good man and will name a new coach soon.

Right on the nose WestCoast. There are a few candidates interviewing for the job right now and a decision should be made by the end of next week. It looks like spring ball will be delayed.

The Cal Lu website has been down all day.  I keep hoping it is so they can let us all know who it is.

Are they "Wild About Harry" or someone else. :)

Oxy has released it's 2007 schedule via the article posted below.  The website has this article, but the schedule page still shows the 2006 schedule results.

Only 22 weeks to kickoff!

Enjoy!

Los Angeles (April 5, 2007)

Occidental football began spring workouts this week in preparation for a 2007 season filled with numerous storylines. The Tigers will enter the season with a school record 26-game regular season winning streak and hopes of winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive SCIAC title.

The Tigers have won 15 conference titles in program history, ten in the last 25 years under veteran head coach Dale Widolff, and have finished in the nation's top 15 in each of the last three seasons.

The Tigers start the season with three straight road trips for the first time since 1991. Occidental opens in Portland, Oregon Sept. 8 against Lewis & Clark and travels to Atherton, Calif. Sept. 15 to face Menlo College, back on the schedule for the first time since 2001.

After an early bye week, Occidental begins SCIAC play Sept. 29 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Tigers have had the Stags' number in recent years, winning the last four meetings.

Four of the Tigers' next five contests are home dates, starting with an important SCIAC match-up against Redlands Oct. 6. The Tigers host La Verne Oct. 13, one of two conference teams to feature a new head coach in 2007.

The 110th meeting between Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer, the oldest college football rivalry in Southern California, takes place Oct. 20 at Merritt Field in Claremont. Occidental holds a 58-48-3 record in the series all-time.

Cal Lutheran, a SCIAC runner-up from 2003-2005, will look to avenge last season's 28-27 loss to Occidental when it comes to Patterson Field Oct. 27.

The Tigers face Chapman University at Homecoming on Nov. 3 at 1pm and close the regular season on the road at Whittier College Nov. 10. Chapman handed Occidental its last regular season loss, 31-28 in Orange, Calif. Sept. 11, 2004.

Occidental returns eight starters on offense in 2007, including All-SCIAC running back Matt Andersen '08, who ranked third in NCAA Division III scoring (12.0ppg). A solid offensive line returns as well led by First Team All-SCIAC center Chris Kyles '08, Second Teamer Sam Emerson '09, and Honorable Mention Tom Gonzales '09.

The Tigers will rely on wide receivers Rocky Ciasulli '07 and Jordan Inabnit '10 to keep the offense motoring.

Six starters and plenty of senior leadership returning on defense with Anthony Ostland '08 at outside linebacker and James Sabo '08 at nose guard. Alex Wertheimer '10, a First Team All-SCIAC selection as a freshman, returns at defensive end alongside Honorable Mention Victor Lopez '09.

Daniel Tromello '08, who made 30.5 tackles and five interceptions in 2006, returns at safety. Punter Alex Groh, a Second Team selection, and Honorable Mention kick returner Chris Washington return on special teams.

NO CAL LU IS NOT WILD ABOUT HARRY. HE WAS NOT INTERVIEWED FOR THE JOB. THE ONLY HS COACHES INTERVIEWED WERE THE BONNY AND CHAMENAIDE COACHES. LAST WEEK THE UNION N.Y. COACH WAS INFOR HIS INTERVIEW AND SOMEONE ELSE, DIDN'T GET THE NAME. THAT WAS ON TOP OF THE 5 OTHER FINALIST THAT WERE INTERVIEWED PROIR, SPECKMAN, FENWICK, RICHARDSON THE CURRENT O.C. AT CLU. THIS IS ALL COMING FROM A CURRENT PLAYER THAT IS MY NEPHEW.

When the heck is Cal Lu gonna hire a coach. i went down there and visited the campus and met with coach richardson and from what i saw he is the right guy for the job, he would make sure the offense doesnt miss a beat. coach richardson has a few big name transfers on the verge of transferring there but all of us would like to see the hire sometime soon. it was hard for him to pitch a good recruiting line when he doesnt know for sure if he will be there.
From what i saw and here the hire should come within the next week, but how many times have we heard that? I believe the job should go to richardson or fenwick. it would keep the same continuity with team if coach richardson stayed around. going through a coaching change is hard for the players but going through it for this long must be tough. im not even on the team and i am frustrated with it. hope it comes soon as they say!!

OB, Menlo was better thn their 4-6 record would suggest. I went to all 6 of their home games. They were a team that couldn't hold on late in games. The SOU loss was on a kick return at the end of the game. They had Willamette 35-24 at the end of three and lost it in the fourth Qtr. They were up on PLU 10 - 0 at one point and let it go. Whitworth had a huge stop at the goal line to end the first half and could have been down because Menlo took the opening kick of the second half in for a touch. The only game they got blasted was at UPS. They lost a key D lineman, their TE and one of D-III's leading kick returners to graduation. They have an athletic, if inconsistant, QB returning and some decent WR also returning. Oxy should win the game, but don't take the Oaks lightly. I'm looking forward to seeing Oxy this fall.

Also saw L&C this past fall, see the picture below. Now they were that bad.

I would like to wish all the Califonia D-III fans a Happy Easter or Passover, which ever the case may be. Just over 5 months to the opening kickoff with a couple of arena games to tide me over. ;D

I too would like to see an SCIAC vs. NWC regular roataion of games.

There is no instability at Redlands. Same coach has been in place for close to twenty years. Choose Redlands and go play in the five wide. You can't beat playing under the lights at the Runner. Ok, there is my recruiting pitch.

I hope the new AD upgrades Oxy's NWC opponents.

OXYBOB

Coach Widolff makes the scheduling calls, I wouldn't expect any changes with whomever is hired as the new AD absent a huge influx of $$ which might impact geographic considerations.

So Oxy can afford to fly to Portland to play a stiff like Lewis & Clark, but because of budget and geographic considerations the Tigers can't fly to Portland and then bus 40 miles to McMinnville to play Linfield? That makes sense.

OxyBob

No Bob . . . read more carefully . . . I said that an influx of $$ might impact "geographic" considerations . . .

with a deeper pocket of resources, Oxy's selection of schools for non-conference games might expand "geographically" . . . (Minnesota, Iowa or even NESCAC) . . .

As for the level of play of the opponents, again, Coach W makes his choices, we've discussed the merits on the board ad nauseum . . . everyone knows that I like tune-ups before hitting the league, others think that tougher opponents out of the gate are better . . . I think that Dale's record speaks for itself.

My point was that Oxy's scheduling philosophy won't be changed by the new AD and will probably remain constant until Coach W retires or changes his view of things.
