And congrats to Andy Collins. Hope to see him and Michael Allan playing so I could brag and tell everyone that "I played against those guys" when I'm watching TV with some townies at the local bar
Are there "townies" in LaVerne?

Obviously you have never wandered into Nick's Place.

OxyBob

Nicks Place R.I.P. No longer with us but always in our hearts  :'(.

Bob, you forgot T-Phillips. Good food and good drinks. But of course it's not like Nick's. Which doesn't exist.

Tooth--- you need to explore S.cal some more. I understand that with age you can't move around a lot, but La Verne has a lot of great places that takes care of senior citizens.

As for the La Verne, H.C. situation, just kill it already. THe campus is not bubbling about getting a head football coach. After getting on campus for the 2nd time this week and reading "the campus times", no one cares for the ULV football program at this point. Which is just sad.

ULV beat me to it. I read the notice about nick's place last night after class.

You know, there are just so many places willing put my steak in a blender so I can drink it given that I have no teeth . . . booyah . . . and the old jokes just keep on comin'.   8) ;) ;D

Actually, my willingess to travel to enjoy food and drink has markedly diminished since becoming a parent and getting older . . . I like to keep my local intake w/i walking distance or very cheap cab . . . (that's "cab" as in transportation, not in fermented grapes . . .  "life is too short to drink cheap wine.")

On the other hand, Spokane, Yosemite, Waikiki, Seattle, etc, etc, etc. . . . I do get out once and a while . . .

But I NEVER drive to the Inland Empire . . . or to West LA . . . just to eat and drink . . . too many good choices right here in the Rock and the Rose City.

Plus the Gold Line to South Pas, Chinatown and onto other parts of LA . . . (Gold Line to Red Line for Langers Deli or Fabiolus Cafe).

See . . . not dead yet.   ;)

Warehouse Pizza- always good for a pitcher and some artery clogging pepperoni pizza.

Haha, Fair enough answer. You are right about Dena and the rock having good places to eat, but like my elders have always told me, "you should go out and enjoy life....... ;D

Great to hear that you are alive.

Fight ULV

Feel free to lower my karma points. I was just told that Ponciano is out of the running. Don't know what the hecks going on at the alma mater.

As far as Nick's goes, a ton of memories there and a place that was always friendly toward ULV football players. No, I'm not a La Verne native and actually grew up near Los Angeles, but the small town is pretty cool especially when the 909 bros with tatoo sleeves come rolling into T-PHilips

Don't worry about your karma but the people in charge of this fiasco at the alma mater should be very concerned about theirs for how they're handling this.

Don't sweat it because that rumor didn't come true. I'd have been disappointed if La Verne had hired Ponciano. He would not enhance the ULV program.

Accord.  No matter what kind of clusterf**k this appears to be, LaVerne is better off w/o a coach than one with that kind of track record.  Taking your time to find the right fit is not a bad thing.  Now I don't know what the actual machinations w/i the LaVerne community are . . . but with a fairly good understanding of the process at another SCIAC institution, all I can say is that acting quickly can create a whole lot more problems than it solves . . .

Absent personal knowledge to the contrary, I'll give the LaVerne adminstration the benefit of the doubt . . . of course, I could be full of ****.

I totally concur that a bad coach is much more detrimental than no coach.  Yet, 5 months is more than enough time to find a suitable replacement.  Giving the administration the benefit of the doubt was understandable 3 months ago now it is verging on the absurd.  A large portion of undergrads at ULV participate in sports and football is the biggest team next to track and field.  Not only are they losing respectability they are losing many potential students.  I just can't fully express how frustrating this is...

Congrats again.....see you in September.  Maroon binkies are cute! :D

OB

Thank you for your ever watchful eye on my posts and pointing out that I mis-typed Larry's last name.  I'm sure he will forgive me.  Also, thanks for the information on Penn St.  It was great.  Did you notice I didnt mis-type Hufnagel's name.  By the way, he was the OC for the Giants and I think he is still either on staff or in a front office position with them.

Just for your info:

I got a chance to step in the weight room at the Rock on friday and noticed that the men in orange and black were doing their annual "end of the year lifting assessments." In my opinion, i must say that i was impressed by the results from several O-line men and L.B's that friday afternoon. These guys are certainly focused and ready to take the SCIAC by a roll come next fall. Be sure to look for Oxy's o-line to be the strongest, quickest, and the more meaner unit through out the SCIAC. I am sure that who ever is going to be the Q.B at the rock this year will enjoy being protected by this group of young men.

As for La Verne, I stepped into their weight room last thursday and heared nothing but crickets. Hahaha ;)
And that school hopes to entice my support for the completion of their "main campus master plan" by donating money; give me a break. :D

Btw, good luck to Mr. Collins and Cory as they both prepare to make their cross country journey into the Big Apple and try to land their spots on the Giant's roster.

Thanks again for the information.  Your investigative skills are unparalleled.  The time, effort and energy you spend on correcting tivial matters on this board are unprecedented .  Where do you find the time?

I did say he "was" the OC for the Giants and that, " I think" he was still on the coaching staff or the front office staff.  Thank you so much for the researching the issue I wasn't sure of.  Why don't you do some research on his career, I think even you would be impressed.

Hufnagel later went on to play for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, or was it the Ottawa Rough Riders? Oh, what's the difference?
OxyBob

Ottowa is the capital of Canada, within the province of Ontario with no current CFL Franchise.  It's last team, the Renegades was suspended last year.

Saskatchewan is a province.  It's CFL franchise is the Roughriders.  They wear green and white uniforms.

For more information on the difference between Ottawa and Saskatchewan, go to:

glad to shed some light . . .

;) ;D
