I talked with Tom over the weekend.  He thought that Elliot might make a good back up but GB isnt looking for a backup, they are looking for the next BF.

He thought he needed a chance to prove himself.

I asked him what it was like to coach BF and he said, I stay out of his way, maybe help him with his reads in practice.  Nice job. :D

D O.C.

Yeah. Well...I don't have to read that O.B. link to know what that's about.

(but now that it's been brought up)

My version is that I had been squeaking about coverage of the number 1 team at the time. Somebody covered three (3) games in one day and did not need the squeak.

This appeared much later to explain the "policy."

I agree that Wesley gets the ink where it counts, in our poll. And in the W column.
Also, during the season we generally back off teams we expect to make the playoffs, assuming that as the numbers thin from 234 teams to watch to 32 to 16 to 8, etc., we'll have a greater chance to feature them. It doesn't always work out perfectly, and it doesn't mean we ignore big news during the season, but we are conscious of spreading the shine, so to speak, and try to do so.

If a number 1 team is eliminated in, let's say, the quarterfinals then.........

OB....he took the bait.  Yeah...I have done that a few times myself.. ::)

Congratulations to Matt Anderson for his accomplishments in Baseball this past season. Just like in football, it was a pleasure seeing him and his baseball teammates trying to make some noise with their bats this year.

Anywho's, with the possibilty of Jones leaving CLU, it is sad to hear that the SCIAC is going through a small make-over. I just hope that this makes teams even more hungry to challange the tigers for the top spot in the league. In the mean time, be sure to see an Oxy team be ready and more prepared to defend their sciac crown.

Sorry OB, loyalty ranks high in my twisted scheme of things.

A California boy going to Wisc. for his last year of school and football seems a bit odd.  Sounds like there might have been some recruiting going on. I mean, how does a SCIAC  qb in his senior year all of a sudden leave a winning program and pack up and head to a midwest powerhouse? :-X :-X

Maybe Jones and the new coach weren't getting along to well?
Hail to the Orange!!!

We had a similar situation happen at Redlands when I was there. Anthony Jones (RB) transferred to La Verne for his senior season and had a 1000+ yard season. He was the starter at Redlands but was losing carries to another talented RB. Also, Jon Nielsen started two years at QB for Redlands and transferred to CMS for his senior season. He also was starting to lose reps at QB but did throw for 3000+ yards in one year at CMS. Of course they only won 3-4 games though. Some guys are all about themselves, not sure that Danny Jones is like this because I don't know him but his decision reeks of "all about me".

McEnroe is a pass first guy, what qb wouldnt love to have that head coach mentality?  DJ was obviously going to be the starter and probably the #1 qb in the SCIAC.  Maybe he wanted to assure himself he made the playoffs! :o

DogPower

it official, i just spoke with danny jones, he is transferring! he says the money is tight and i can understand that from how much it is to live in thousand oaks and go to school there. big loss for cal lu! i dont know if they will recover from that. he also wants a chance to play at the next level somehow and they do get more national attention (as east coast schools do) than cal lu. i can understand his side. he wants the best situation for himself to get to the next level and win a championship

Sabretooth Tiger

Hmmm . . . well, given that there is no reason to believe DogPower is mendacious by nature, I'd say that Jones' decision to transfer makes the upcoming SCIAC preseason a tad more exciting.  Given Cal Lu's great performance last year (outside of the illegal conduct that caused the bump at Claremont . . . and this isn't the basketball board right?), I would have otherwise thought the Kingsmen would be the presumptive league leaders coming into the season.

Info on his backup would be interesting.

Overall, good news for the Tigers and the Bulldogs . . . should be a wide open race this fall, with Oxy the preseason favorite . . . it'll be interesting to see how recruiting turns out for all.

Big blow for the Who. Replacing a three year starter is not easy. Big opportunity for someone to step up though. If I was DJ backup last year I would be licking my chops right now.

Let's see.  This is a program that played for the national championship the last two years in a row and just had a player drafted and one sign a free agent contract.  What are the chances that the UWW coaches went looking (in California no less,) for him!  Careful throwing around unsubstantiated accusations, please.

Excellent point.  UWW has been wearing the bridesmaid dress the past two years so maybe the Cali kid thought he could help the Walnut and Bronze finally pop the question to the Warhawks.

It takes some stones to make that decision and uproot your life for your senior year of college.  Hope it works out for him.

Tooth, says who, you? ;) :D

I do agree that it will be a wide open race and should make for some exciting games to watch.  120 days left before opening kickoff!!!!!

As to the unsubstantiated accusations, please.....this is just banter, no one made any such accusations.  Anyone familiar withthe circumstances has to at the very least ask the questions, why and how! ::)

If he is transferring to better himself and try to get to the pro's thats fine.  I dont think he is a pro qb, however, I only saw him play once.  If Elliot and Collins are fighting for spots, I dont DJ  will make it.  I quess you cant fault the kid for following his dream if that is really what he is doing.  Good luck to DJ and to Cal Who.
