Sorry OB, loyalty ranks high in my twisted scheme of things.

A California boy going to Wisc. for his last year of school and football seems a bit odd.  Sounds like there might have been some recruiting going on. I mean, how does a SCIAC  qb in his senior year all of a sudden leave a winning program and pack up and head to a midwest powerhouse? :-X :-X

No problem, Snoop.  This has come as quite a shock, I understand.  Wondering why and how is not limited to the SCIAC board, believe me.  It was just that one part that sounded like an accusation to me!   ;)

If he is transferring to better himself and try to get to the pro's thats fine.  I dont think he is a pro qb, however, I only saw him play once.  If Elliot and Collins are fighting for spots, I dont DJ  will make it.  I quess you cant fault the kid for following his dream if that is really what he is doing.  Good luck to DJ and to Cal Who.

This post, I completely agree with.

GLS     Sorry you misinterpreted my thinking out loud with a raised eyebrow as an accusation. ;)

Yeah. Well...I don't have to read that O.B. link to know what that's about.

(but now that it's been brought up)

My version is that I had been squeaking about coverage of the number 1 team at the time. Somebody covered three (3) games in one day and did not need the squeak.

This appeared much later to explain the "policy."

I agree that Wesley gets the ink where it counts, in our poll. And in the W column.
Also, during the season we generally back off teams we expect to make the playoffs, assuming that as the numbers thin from 234 teams to watch to 32 to 16 to 8, etc., we'll have a greater chance to feature them. It doesn't always work out perfectly, and it doesn't mean we ignore big news during the season, but we are conscious of spreading the shine, so to speak, and try to do so.

If a number 1 team is eliminated in, let's say, the quarterfinals then.........

That is unrelated to the policy. The policy stands the same regarding DOC's crankness -- we are not going to stick with a pregame survey once games are over. DOC couldn't handle that we put a survey out there without waiting for his favorite team to finish playing.

He wanted us to wait for Linfield to get upset in a game against a sub-.500 team they went on to win 44-21. We were not going to hold for that possibility.

The transfer of DJ will open up a quarterback spot on the SCIAC All-Conference team.  Jones and Scurlock were juniors last year.

D O.C.

Thank-you.
I'm done.
OxyBob, you're done too.
Well done, I suppose.

Tom Brady

Wow, another kid thinking he is better than he really is.   :o
Cal Lu's entire Athletics program seems to be a mess.  Maybe they need to start looking at the top to figure out what the heck is going on out there.

Hmmm . . . well, given that there is no reason to believe DogPower is mendacious by nature, I'd say that Jones' decision to transfer makes the upcoming SCIAC preseason a tad more exciting.

How many years have you been waiting to work the word mendacious into a conversation? I think the last time I heard that word some 15-year-old kid was trying to recite it at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

OxyBob
It is a good word to know during the political season.

While I was distressed at the poor choices made by three members of the men's basketball team, and am dumbfounded that Jones is transferring (he always struck me as happy with his whole CLU experience) I don't find much evidence that the CLU athletic program is in disarray.

The football team has many, many talented players returning and an enthusiastic new head coach who's thrilled to be back at his alma mater.

The women's volleyball team made it to the National Elite Eight

The men's and women's basketball teams both made strong showings with teams made up largely of underclassmen (yes losing Meier will hurt, but he was not irreplaceable)

Baseball and softball's seasons were similar to those of the basketball teams, and...

Oh yeah - the women's water polo team just won a national championship.  ;D

Good luck to Danny Jones - he always struck me as a nice kid, but even in the wake of his apparent departure I remain excited about the immediate future of Kingsmen football.

Just curious, how many division 3 womens water polo teams are there?

New president at CLU. - who by all accounts I've heard is more "pro-sports" than his predecessor
Soccer coach for an AD. - Football has done well during his tenure - so I fail to see the connection
No new stadium as promised. - There are still plans in place to build the stadium, the timeline has always been uncertain due to tying down funding
Coach hired late.  - it was a thorough process and he was still in place in time to meet with key recruits and hold spring practice

That leaves us with...

Lose starting QB - this might hurt - and might be a huge opportunity for someone new
