With all the time that has gone by who would even want to coach at ULV?  They are obviously showing a disdain for the program.  What self respecting person would want to work for a company that doesn't care about the department they would be hired in?  I guess it would be a good opportuninty for somebody who has never been a head coach before, never had the opportunity to be a head coach before, and doesn't care that they are walking into a cluster****.  This is pathetic.

Here's an article about some of the differences between athletics in D-I and D-III, which appeared in the Daily Trojan, the student newspaper of mighty USC.

I am so happy to see the Trojans are considering the D3 route. ;)

Will they beat Chapman in the race to become part of the SCIAC?

I loved this, thanks! :) Somewhere in that they missed that the Men's BB team was in the final four, or that some of Southern CA's best academic schools are also DIII, but it's a fantastic article.

OxyBob, thanks for sharing that with us.  Very interesting.  BTW, do you have any idea why that story was in the student newspaper of USC?  Seems a little odd.

Sorry OB, loyalty ranks high in my twisted scheme of things.

A California boy going to Wisc. for his last year of school and football seems a bit odd.  Sounds like there might have been some recruiting going on. I mean, how does a SCIAC  qb in his senior year all of a sudden leave a winning program and pack up and head to a midwest powerhouse? :-X :-X

We had a similar situation happen at Redlands when I was there. Anthony Jones (RB) transferred to La Verne for his senior season and had a 1000+ yard season. He was the starter at Redlands but was losing carries to another talented RB. Also, Jon Nielsen started two years at QB for Redlands and transferred to CMS for his senior season. He also was starting to lose reps at QB but did throw for 3000+ yards in one year at CMS. Of course they only won 3-4 games though. Some guys are all about themselves, not sure that Danny Jones is like this because I don't know him but his decision reeks of "all about me".

Well I happen to be lucky enough to know the Kid (Danny Jones) and I can assure you that the last thing on his mind is himself. If anything I would say that the choice he made was anything but. Look at it from a player prospective. 1. Your coach leaves you team high and dry right before spring ball. 2. CLU took their sweet time in finding a new head coach to fill the shoes. The team as a whole was hurt from this. I do know that the work ethic of this kid is one that any coach would love to have. His dedication to the team was never a question and I think we all witnessed this in the pass seasons where the team comradery was bar none above and beyond. I think with the coaching problem at hand that the players dedication to the team fell short and for a kids that dedicate so much time and effort to the sport felt that in some areas the team and coaching dedication was not in return. I heard rumors that they were having troubles getting a full roster to spring ball and kids were not showing up. I don't think that any of these kids should fall victim to being called selfish given the situation if anything I would praise them for their dedication to the sport and drive to play at higher levels. Danny made a choice to play for a team that has the comradery that CLU had last year and will face many challenges in his next season I can do nothing but wish the kid well and  I wish the same for CLU in rekindling that fire needed make it to the playoffs.          Putting things in perspective.....

I'm hoping I will soon get to see Pete Carroll out coached by Andrew Ankeny. :D

Andrew is a great choice at La Verne and will have a good pipeline to Texas high school coaches.  Look out.

Hurricane - You seem to know a lot about the "comradery" of a team in Wisconsin that itself has a new head football coach.  Is that one of the "rumors" that you based your other views on?

There are perfectly reasonable explanations for why this kid switched to UWW, but to suggest that a kid from the Bay Area who spent 3 years at a school in Southern California transferred to a school in Wisconsin that itself has a new head coach (and where there are more than a few upset people because the long time assistant head coach did not get the job) because he knew there would be more camaraderie and dedication than there had been at his old school - well, that just doesn't make sense.

Pat Coleman

By the way, the kid who wrote the story I recognize because he participated in a walk-on tryout at USC this past season and made the team!

Here's an interview with young Ben Malcolmson.

Sakman 1111

I think you are right Tmerton....transferring because they have 4 excellent receivers, great running back, solid offensive line, super facilities and fan base, Stagg Bowl , etc......I got a hunch that these played more into Jones's decision to transfer ........

Fight ULV

I've heard that Ankeny doesn't want the players to cuss. That's tough for a La Verne guy to do. I would have only lasted about 5 minutes before the first F bomb came out

I think its huge if your putting a 110% and getting 75% back.......Seems like simple logic to me to go to a team where that 110% is returned.
Ever take into consideration the fact that O – coordinator was applying for the job at UWW when this all came about?
