If his motives were purely financial, why not go NAIA or DII?  At Whitewater he'll still be paying close to $20,000 a year in out of state tuition, room, board, and fees.  Seems like a lot of money for someone who really is struggling.  And I wouldn't be too sure that he is paying much more than that at CL...I personally never paid that much at Whitworth.  CL is gonna run about $33,000 a year (according to there website) and any student who is accepted is virtually guaranteed $5-7 thousand...it seems like most would get closer to $10,000 in an academic scholarship.  State schools don't have that big of an auotomatic academic scholarship.  Plus, if money really is an issue then he will most likely get some more money from the school either in grants or work study.  Anyways, this is all pretty moot...sounds to me like the guy is serious about playing at the next level, had an opportunity to play at one of the top programs in the nation, and bought his plane ticket to wisconsin.

Pat Coleman

Gotta sit out a year transferring to D-II. That's two years of school (or three semesters, at least) on a partial scholarship. Probably do almost as well in financial aid and only have two semesters at UWW.

I agree with the tuition assessment, but you are forgetting that the cost of living in Whitewater, Wisconsin is considerably less than in Thousand Oaks, California.  The savings just in the cost of alcohol alone!   ;D

>>>>>Your view of the world has been distorted by your overexposure to the Southern California high school scene that is dominated by the so called "booster clubs".  These are nothing more than self-serving parents, players and coaches that will cheat and recruit in order to move the "program" forward to bring glory to themselves rather than educating their children.

In Division 3, things are more pure.  It is most likely that DJ initiated all of this by himself because of financial reasons.  He could start at most schools.  Why not go to a winner?>>>>>>>>

GF

Your post is hypocritical and simply insulting. Your personal shot a me is not only uncalled for it proves my point about you being hypocritical.

On one hand you claim d3 sports is "more pure" than high school sports, ( and you seem to think high school sports in so Cal is even worse) then, you say DJ should go play for a winner.....Well which is it?  You cant have it both ways.  If d3 is pure, why is he leaving?  To go play for a team that can contend for a national championship?  You think that upholds the principals of d3 sports?

I highly doubt finances come into play, if they were an issue, he would have left long before his senior year.

I really dont care what his motives are.  I merely questioned why he would leave under what appears to be very favorable circumstances at CLU and I get your grief.  >:( ::)  There was no reason for you to start in on the self serving parents nonsense. You dont know me, dont pretend to.

My point was that I simply dont understand why a player, a QB yet, who has started for three years, played for a winner, received regional and national recognition would all of a sudden leave with only one year to play?

Pat Coleman

Perhaps he wants real national recognition.

Perhaps he wants to challenge himself in the toughest conference in the nation.

I did not take a personal shot at you, nor did I call you a "self-serving parent."  I have no control over the guilt feelings that you have suffered after reading my post.

I was defending Danny Jones who has not yet officially transferred and may not.  He cannot post on these boards to defend himself.  It is not uncommon for players to transfer at the D3 level for many reasons.  Andy Collins went to two schools (not D3) before ending up at Oxy.  Quarterbacks are especially prone to transferring at all levels because coaches tend to only play the main guy.  There was a change in coaches at CLU that created a lot of unknowns.  I am not the only one to point this out.  The long delay at ULV created even more angst according to some posters.

And those are good reasons....it was this kind of post, someone else's input to think about and discuss, I was trying to elicit, not GF's attack.

PC  if those are the reasons DJ  has, then he should go. To me., sports is also about, loyalty, friends and long lasting relationships.  It will be hard for DJ to establish those at UWW in one year.  Maybe he is just plain unhappy at CLU, I wish him the best.

snoop dawg

GF    Please have enough conviction to stand up for what you posted, dont wimp out.  You clearly stated <<<<<< your view of the of the world has been distorted by your overexposure to the So Cal high school scene......>>>>>>>

Guilt?  Please, I enjoyed every moment of my sons high school career and have absolutely no guilt or regrets.  He enjoyed our family's involvment, help and support. I helped the TEAM  in every way I could, from slicing oranges in the summer passing leagues to organizing the sale of t shirts to raise money.  Again, dont pretend that you know me, you dont.  Anything WE did, WE did for the team. My son and my family made lifelong friendships that all began from his team involvment and the parental support we gave the team.

I can only hope my son has the same experience at UR.

For these types of reasons, I coudn't understand why DJ would want to transfer. There are many valid reasons that can be raised, I hope his are.

Gray Fox

I was referring to the high school message board that you referenced during the pro draft.

I looked at it.  It looked like people were playing fantasy football with high school boys.  You may have had a good experience, but there was a lot of chicanery referenced about players transferring between districts, etc.

WC11........  I  didnt see you participate in the conversation in a positive or informative manner.  You still haven't. ::) and dont worry about my son.

Pat Coleman

That's why he used the sarcasm font.

I'd be willing to guess that Redlands' coaching staff hasn't enjoyed your involvement either.

Sigh, this board used to be able to talk about SCIAC stuff..... :-\

Wildcat, the "sarcasm font" thing is a classic... K+ to you.

Good luck to the ULV players with their Taylor University graduate coach... I've heard that people from Christian colleges can be pretty conservative.  ;D 8) :D ;)

I would speculate, though never having been there, that East Texas Baptist is fairly conservative as well. The last two words say a lot.

Your right about that Ms. Lee.  :D

I hope that some of this past info on the poets will help you and others on the SCIAC board not sigh any more

With the rebuilding process underway, the football team has been working hard since the end of the regular season to improve strength, speed, agility and conditioning.

According to their website , Q.B Josh Schurlock and his offensive of line are ready cause havoc and make teams get fits. Of course, teams such as Redlands, Chapman, CMS and Oxy all got fits from the peots after learning that these poets mean business. Look for coach hammer to have something hinding up his sleeve this year.
