I would speculate, though never having been there, that East Texas Baptist is fairly conservative as well. The last two words say a lot.

What's that old joke - Jews don't recognize Jesus as savior, Episcopalians don't recognize the Pope as leader of the church, and Baptists don't recognize each other at the liquor store.

Good luck to the ULV players with their Taylor University graduate coach... I've heard that people from Christian colleges can be pretty conservative.
According to this article, Wheaton is ranked 7th among the 10 most conservative colleges. Taylor didn't make the list. Maybe Wheaton's willingness to allow students to dance had something to do with it.

Wow, that article was pretty harsh... infiltrate? don't know how to interact with people not like them? :o Maybe Princeton is jealous because we had more National Merit Finalists than them (at least at some point). :D I will admit that the campus is probably something vaguely like 60% Republican, 10% Democrat, and 30% Independent though. :-X With me fitting firmly into that 30%.  ;D

Taylor actually doesn't allow dancing on campus still, as far as I know. Plus the fact that it's in the middle-of-nowhere farm country Indiana sorta heightens the republicanism of the place. As does the fact that everyone has strawberry blond hair, just like Dan Quayle. :D

That AP article (which was in hundreds of newspapers on that date) still makes me laugh... "They MAY dance at Wheaton. Whether they CAN dance is another question."  :D :D :D
Wait, dunks are only worth two points?!?!!!? Why does anyone do them? - diehardfan

Snoop Dawg:  I don't think GF was targeting you in his comments . . . you were, however, clearly in the sights of OB's follow-up remarks.

To the balance of the board, please stop re-living the past.  Give SD a break.  Recognize that regardless of your views of his comments, he serves as an effective catalyst to keeping this board interesting and lively (and thus helping to stimulate traffic to the site/# of hits) . . . and that is a worthwhile role for those wanting to see the board continue and prosper . . . yes?

Exactly, great point. Nice picture of Andy Collins, I hope he does well regardless of my last post about him. Need to let the steam cool sometimes before posting..

Just blame the heat from last week RFB. I can bet that it can be hard and frustrating sometimes to living out in the  909. Haha, Just kidding

No 909 for me since 1997. Nothing but the sun and beach for me ever since.

BrownEagle my brutha,

While our good buddy RFB may have been educated in the hot and smoggy environs of the 909, he has shown the good sense to move to the beach . . . (though as an aside, since he says he's a golfer and not a surfer, I'm not sure why he didn't move further east to Palm Springs, but that's another issue) . . .

And it's his new found status as . . . DADDY . . . that has led to the sleeplessness that can cause momentary bouts of "cranky" so unlike our otherwise always friendly Bulldog buddy . . .  ;)

So BrownE . . . given your "ute" (+karma if you get the reference) . . . what's the word on the new recruiting class?  Any gems you've that you've heard about?

D O.C.

OxyBob...one can always hold out that a good athlete can make it at another position. Don't "they" say that's what Dallas Cowboys did in the 70's, draft athletes and then fit them in if it helped? That was 30 years ago though, wasn't it?

Pat Coleman

Sadly, this is not unusual for quarterbacks at this time of year. Often times schools bring these guys out with no intention of ever signing them. They just need someone to throw to their wide receivers and tight ends.  :-\

D o.c,

thats a good point about q.b.'s doing that. However, like pat had mentioned, for some reason "nfl teams usually don't let incoming Q.B's switch positions until summer camps have started. Case in point, former UCLA q.b. Drew Bennet was drafted as a q.b. for the titans, but decided to switch until he was allowed in "summer camp" and ultimately ended up being a good reciever (which he had never played in his life before) and stayed on the team.
I wish q.b's from rookie mini-camps could do this.

Tooth,

there's tons of info that i picked up on the recruiting class for oxy. However, just like i have been doing so the past two years, i rather let you guys figure out how oxy will be doing in the fall ;)

Fight ULV

Wonder how much of a culture shock it's going to be for Ankeny, going from a Baptist school, to a liberal arts school. Not just the political side, but the demographics as well.

Tooth,

You're a man of good word. I do play a little out in Palm Springs/Desert, Indian Canyon is a personal favorite of mine. The crankiness has started to subside as I adjust to fatherhood although I will never get used to the projectile poop/pee that my daughter seems to fond of sometimes.

Browneagle64

Haha,

I just don't want to misinform you guys based on my observations. However, the O-line, D-line and L.b. recruits this year continue to grow in numbers and in size as well.
