It's official. Redlands filled their open date with Haskell Indian Nations University. Hopefully this is a one and done contract.

I hear it's going to be an annual thing - they're going to call it the Thorpe Bowl. ;)

It should at least make for fewer pot shots at Oxy's nonconference schedule - if only for a year.

From what I heard.......When Trinity backed out....with not alot of time and with most teams having their schedules already in place,UR had a hard time finding someone for week two at home, thus......

RFB...I dont think UR will travel there next year, at least I hope not.

Just as a reminder, Trinity had no choice but to drop two non-conference games as a result of its conference expanding. That expansion happened a year ago. Plenty of time for Trinity's opponents to find replacements.

D O.C.

A sign of our times when I read RFB's post with Haskell Indian Nations University-Redlands in the same frame and my knee jerked.

After the mascot problems there is no way any person in the country could connect  Indian Nations and Red lands together, could they?   ???

That is great!  Because the game is on Sept 15 and Linfield is playing HSU on Sept 15 in the last game of a 2 year deal.  That would mean that both schools will have an open date next season on Sept 15th.

I know that Linfield really needs a DIII non-conference game and this would be a prefect fit.  Do the phone still work at Redlands?

The Oxy / Menlo game on Sept 15 also relates to the expansion of the SCAC (Colorado College).  I don't know if it is a one year deal, but they might also be available.

I have read many times on this board that most schedules are made two years in advance, so even if UR had an entire year to find someone, that doesn't mean that someone was available.

I personally would love to see UR vs Linfield on a home and away basis.

So speakum Sitting Bulldog.

"Gray Fox" is getting to be quite an appropriate name on this site. :)

Snoop:

A year out there are usually 20-30 teams just on our Open Dates boards alone looking for games at that time of the season.

As I'm sure you can imagine, there must be more teams looking for games who are not using the board.

You should perhaps consider just taking my word for it that a year is plenty of time.

PC ........Ok I'm sure you are.  I would think that travel expense and cost would play a big factor with the teams that do have open dates and eliminate many possibilities.

So why does Linfield have such a hard time finding games?   Is it because no one wants to play them? Does their location have something to do with it? In looking at the open date site, it appears that they have many an open date.

Not many teams want to play Linfield. They have a very tough time setting a non-conference schedule. I hope Redlands and Linfield do indeed agree to play each other soon.

Most teams want to have a chance of winning and staying healthy early in the season.  That is not likely to happen against Linfield.

For those of you who don't know, the Inland Empire (the beautiful area where Redlands is located) has a slough Indian Reservations, and many of them have deep pockets due to their casinos.  I don't know much about the Bulldogs motives, but with the amount of funding these tribes provide to the community I would not be surprised if this is turned into a much bigger event promoting Native Americans in the Inland Empire...I am looking forward to it!
