Nevertheless, I'd much rather have a hat on my head than a collar around my neck (submissive much?)

Wow.......it didnt take you guys long to respond!  The golf visor is standard equipment when golfing and the spiked collar is a sign of masculinity....if you are a dog!

You got to admit that the hat on the Tiger detracts from the ferocious image that a Tiger portrays.

Before the Redland's phone system when down...the hat on our Wildcat didn't detract from the poundings the 'Cats put on the Dawgs through 2003 so I don't think it would take anything away from the hold the Tigers have had on the SCIAC and the Dawgs the past three years.

I understand some of your concerns as well, but, frankly i don't think the football team has used that long since the days Sabertooth, jack kemp and Bob all played on the same team. Gradually throughout time and evolution, the Logo that the team uses is now a big O. Thank goodness. However, Oswald the tiger with a little sailor hat or just about anything with a sailor hat can be amusing.

Actually, in my era, we had a diagonal black OXY on orange helmets w/ black and white trim in the center, preceded by black helmets w/ a white/orange "O" on the side w/ orange and black center striping.

Where that stupid hat wearing tiger did appear was on the wall at the north end of the football field, now hidden from view . . . thank god. I don't know who the genius was that thought that one up, but glory be the day that the college wised up and covered that abomination.

Because while I will take umbrage at others ragging on anything Oxy, being an Oxy alum I can say w/o resevation that tiger w/ the hat is just frickin stupid and should be killed, buried, never to see the light of day . . . the pouncing bengal is a much better symbol.

Just to add some info about the tiger that you are mentioning that is now under the big "O" on the north side of patterson----- in 03', just as my o-line coach, teammates and I were getting a water break we noticed the facilities crew covering up the tiger and asked each other why were they doing this? Turns out that an alumni (and his/her family) had paid the school some big bucks to have it placed there in his/her wish. Well, once the dear old alum went extinct, so did to0 "the little tiger with the sailor hat" and all is glorious image. In the end, everyone is still happy, the big "O" logo is up, the school is winning sciac crowns and the alumni are still getting their wishes made.

WC11...your comments about the acorn are not only insulting but stupid.  I have not brought up the subject about the acorn...neither should you.  I simply made a joke about the silly little hat.....so if the silly little hat fits...wear it or shove it...take your pick.
