So we play two NWC teams and an independent in our non-conference schedule.  Personally, I'd love to see to see different NWC teams tossed into the mix.  Maybe someday, but in the meanwhile I'll just enjoy the games and not worry about stuff over which I have no control.

Yeah, different NWC teams would be nice. You know, like the NWC teams which actually win football games. I said it before and I'll say it again, if Oxy can fly to Portland to play a complete stiff like Lewis & Clark, then the Tigers can fly to Portland, bus the 40 miles to McMinnville, and play a real football team.

OxyBob

I know it's been discussed before, but the SCIAC/NWC should sign an agreement for exclusive non-conference play. It could be done on a two year rotating basis. Once the two year home/away series is completed the schedule changes.

How's your daughter with the great birthday?

Linfield wraps up their 2-year deal with HSU this season and Redlands is playing Haskell just this year.  Both games are played on Sept 15th so that means the 2008-September 13th date is open for both teams.

Linfield is killing themselves to find another regional DIII team to play and Redlands would be moronic not to take the game.  Linfield is losing a ton of Seniors after this season and will be adjusting to all of the new parts at the beginning of the 2008 season.

If Redlands doesn't step up to the plate then I formally suggest they change their primary color from Maroon to "Bright Yellow*".

She's doing great, thanks for asking. Fourteen weeks has went by pretty fast.  She will be attending some games with me this Fall. It's going to be fun to introduce her to the craze we call DIII football.

A home and away series featuring the CatDome and the Runner? What's not to like? Sign me up please!

It is interesting as to what words mean in various parts of the country.  ;)

Yikes....I was linking my "High Yella" to Redlands being chicken.  WC11 loves all peoples except for 'Lutes, 'Rats, Loggers, Raiders, Wolves, and Bearcats.

"High Yella"

That is interesting. Is that anything like a "heathen"?

OxyBob
No, most of the "high yellas" of my historical acquaintance were Christian and more specifically, AME, CME, Baptist or Church of God in Christ:)

What's the early line on the Oxy/L&C game this year? The over/under must be at least 55 points. Hopefully my alma mater (L&C) will make a game of it for the first 10 minutes. :'(

Aw come on HM . . . a little preseason unbridled optimism is what's needed for Pio fans.

Last year the Pios made a game of it against Menlo.

Having watched the Oxy v. LC game, I remember being impressed that LC showed some moments of brilliance and kept the fight up.  I think you graduated the receiving end of the QB/receiver pairing that shined best . . .

Nevertheless, this will be the second year for the Pios back from the crypt, the second year for the head coach, and with a full year of recruiting under his belt.

No where to go but up!

Buck up buddy, and good luck in all games save for the outing against my Tigers.

WC11...if "yella" is too controversial, PINK would work too!

I don't think that it's "yellow" or "yella" that's controversial . . . but rather the "high yellow" or "high yella" . . . the former connotes cowardice, the latter with the racial implications.

A quick edit/deletion of "high" should suffice to render the unintentionally racist connotation moot.

Tooth, thanks for the encouraging words. It's been difficult to see how the Pios have somewhat fallen off these last years. As you said nowhere to go but up. Coach Sulages is fired up for the upcoming season. The biggest problem for them is getting the athletes that can play as well as scoring a 2200 on the SAT.

Fear the Poet

hello all, I'm new to the board and in the process of slowly weening myself off of High School football and focusing on College Ball. My son will be an incoming freshman football player at Whittier this year.
I look forward to a fun year.
thanks
