thank you..also love the Jim Healy line in your sig. I wonder what the late owner of the Eagles would have to say about that?
For those not familiar, that is a Howard Cosell line on a tape that Healy used to play regularly on his radio show. I'll add his name to it.

OxyBob used to know all about the Eagles owner and could fill us all in, but I'm afraid OB has lost it.

No doubt, the Poets have given Oxy and others fits over the years . . . I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things develop . . .

what position does the chip off the old block play?

it's all in good fun..just goofing you.

My son was a three year Varsity starter at left guard in high school. As a Junior and senior he also played DE and nose. They moved him around quite abit on D. Our coach didn't really believe in going both ways but made exceptions with some. He would always be goal line and short yardage D.

He was two time ALL-CIF and two time 1st Team All-League. Team captain, Offensive MVP as a guard. He also rec'd his high school's "Male Athlete of the Year award" He also was Freeway League shot put champion........National Football Foundation Scholar athlete award.

Coach Hammer recruited him strictly as a pass rushing DE. Too small to play guard at the next level. He was the pulling guard on the strong side of a wing-T offense.

Thats more answer than the question you asked, but I couldn't resist.  Us proud pops cannot be denied our bragging.:)

And of course proud moms too!!   ;D(I'm the other half of "fear the POET" and new to this board as well...Transition from HS board to this one will take some getting use to!!)

Is he smaller than this guy?

Daryl Agpalsa, Linfield, 5'10", 225lbs,
Offensive Guard-2002 first team All-American (D3.com, HP, Football Gazette, AFCA)

Remember Division 3 is a place where a smaller guy can do big things.  Don't let your son sell himself short.

i'm ashamed and you are correct. I'm sure he could. In fact, chapman and redlands wanted him to go OL. My son really wanted to change to def fulltime. Havig said that, he has told me he'll play wherever they want him to, as long as he is on the field. by the way, he is 6'1" and 220 pounds

thanks

Just make sure he comes in with realistic expectations. Freshmen rarely start even at this level.

his expectation is to be the freshman with the most playing time. He does expect to play but understands it's a higher level. We always taught him to work hard and expect to play. He is a smart kid..i think he understands. He got the smarts from DAW

When I was at Oxy, and when the meet was on at Santa Anita, I made sure I had no afternoon classes so I could go to the track. One day I met Jim Healy in the clubhouse. (He was a darned good handicapper, by the way.) I gave him two winners, which he mentioned on the air that evening. Thereafter I was a regular contributor to the Healy show, and achieved "correspondent" level.

Wow - sounds more like the exception than the rule.  Starting is never a guarantee year to year either.  I saw a lot of guys - even 3 yr starting seniors get benched for younger players who outplayed them.

It was pretty harsh to see a senior go from 1st to 2nd string - especially late in their senior season, but it is possible.  Just b/c it's D3 doesn't mean that the competition to earn and keep starting jobs are any less than D1.

the track coach has already called him and he most likely will, but in his words, "I really have to focus on football initially"  he won league at 51' If I'm not mistaken, the shot is heavier at the college level. The coach is confident Brandon has the form to adjust. I hope he does throw..we shall see.

He has been approached by the coach already and was asked to throw shot put.  He is not sure if he wants to do that or not yet.  FTP & I believe once he's there and the coach talks to him about it he will!  (We would love it if he did!)  His personal best in HS was
50' 5"  I know right now his focus (besides School!) is getting ready for the upcoming football season! ;D
