FTP - Good luck to your son.  I hope my input, and the experiences of the Great Pumpkin are helpful.  Too many guys come in with the wrong expectations.  If your son approaches this as a great adventure and with an open mind, and comes prepared to work hard and learn, he will have a lot of fun.  By the way so will you and your family as well.

all the input is very helpful. It will be quite an adjustment for him.

we have always been involved. DAW and I were Football Booster presidents for the high school. College will be quite the adjustment for us as well. In high school, the coaches opened the doors to us and we were always around and a part of the program. In college, they don't want you around..just want your money. :)

thanks again

It's best that way, and probably should be the common practice in high school (except the money part ;D).

Not to break up the fascinating discussion about FTP's shortcomings, but in the news I noted a rare Pomona football sighting. Here's an article about a brainy Sagehen recruit named Levi Moore from Sulphur Springs, Texas, which is about 80 miles northeast of Dallas.

+1 OxyBob!

Any man who is reading the Sulphur Springs News Telegram is cosmopolitan extraordinaire, a renaissance man for the new century.

He got a partial to Austin College which doesn't surprise me, because AC Head Coach Ronnie Gage is scouring Texas for talent.

As for young Mr Moore, he was not one of the six "Players to Watch"  mentioned in the 2006 Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine at Sulphur Springs HS.  As for his football ability, the newspaper article did not specifically mention his being an All-District 11-AAAA performer, which I consider a minimum for impact talent at this level.

As for his getting the molecular biology scholarship, I wonder if he fulfills Pomona's "cultural diversity need" of a rural Caucasian East Texas football player.  :D

I just wonder if he can keep his mind on his studies when confronted by those Southern California women, either at Pomona College or the Pomona malls.

Good luck to Levi!   :)

As for the poll on the top, where is the choice for

I doubt that will be a problem. :'( Pomona is quite a distance from UCLA and the USC cheerleaders.

I thought that might the case on the campus, but there are shopping malls and the beaches...

(Is it really true that there is just so much that a finite amount of money cannot fix on some women?  Dallas is a people(girl)-watchers city!)    :D

If Daddy can afford the tuition, surely there is a plastic surgeon nearby...  ;D

I considered and rejected that option along with "But dogs is good eatin'!"

Thanks to all for the words of wisdom.  As FTP said this is going to be a transition / Adjustment for all of us...not just the son!! ;)   I think it's really starting to hit home for the "young poet'  Just the other day he was saying how close it is getting to reporting to camp!  I know that he realizes that all the guys on his team were once "big man on campus" and he has to prove himself.  I know that when he sets his mind to something he gives it all he's got.    It's going to be a great experience for him anyway you look at it.  If anything he's going to finishing his 4 yrs with a great education and a bright future waiting for him!

I am not sure if "coalition" was exactly what FTP had in mind with DAW.  :D

It does work for polite company, and they are definitely a welcome addition to the SCIAC board! ;)

Thanks D.O.C.  We also look forward to meeting everyone!!  It's almost like going back to our son's Freshman year in High School ..not knowing what to expect but hoping for a great 4 years...  If these past 4 yrs were a precursor to the upcoming yrs ahead, we're in for one hell of a ride! ;D

If that ride included winning a ton of games you're in for a shocking change.
