If that ride included winning a ton of games you're in for a shocking change.

Of cours that was part of the ride (10-0 season / 12 -1 overall last year!) Which is always a plus... :D  Besides Whittier is an up an coming team with lots of potential.  With Coach Hammer I see alot of good things to come in the next few years for this team.
But ... I was also referring to the people / camaraderie / and memories to be made!
It was like another part of the family...  We're just looking forward to another great year in every way possible! ;D

FTP/DAW

I believe you are the first d3.com Power Couple!  ::)

We will all be interested in the next four years to see how your son's football/college  experience compares to his high school guard counterpart who is going to play at Nebraska (make that five years). ;D

From time to time we have big discussions as to why the SCIAC schools lack the new recruits considering the amount that are available in California.  How can they do better?  Your latest input would be of interest.

It pains me, but I have to be a Husker fan as well.:) The young man you speak of is one of our son's best friends. We are very excited for him and his family.

as far as why the sciac doesn't all the recruits, my honest opinion would be the cost. All of the institutions are very expensive. Even with Academic schollies and grants, etc...it is quite costly and we are going to consider robbing banks to bankroll it. :). I think you see alot of the guys go the JC route.

As a former admissions rep from a east school that recruited out west, I will agree with FTP that cost is a big issue (especially since many families forked out big bucks to pay for private schools vs. the LAUSD).

I also think, and I will admit this is a generalization, it has to deal with the UC and larger university system as being viewed as the more "common/expected" way most kids will get their college education out west.

Private lib arts schools back east are more numerous, fairly ingrained into the "east coast culture" and are geographically more accessible than what appears to be a fairly small (in number) and geographically spread out west coast private lib arts schools.

Maybe, I am completely off base here, but that was my perception based on speaking with kids and parents at college fairs out here in CA several years ago.

I think you have finally hit the nail on the head regarding this subject. :(

I think you nailed it Pumkin. So few west coast schools of this nature compared to midwest/east coast. I can't tell you how many letters and calls my son rec'd from out of state..mostly east and mid. Alot of schools out there.

For athletes, if the choice is pay 30-40 grrrr and go private or pay 1500 and go JC with a potential to transfer in two years, I think choice is obvious for people who might not be able to flip the bill. As I said earlier, we are killing ourselves trying to figure out how to pay the bill. But if in the end, if the young Poet does his studying and gets that degree, I don't care if we are in debt for the rest of our lives....that and he promosed me Angel season tickets on field level when he becomes successful in business. :)

Sounds like a good deal to me!

Seriously though, if you haven't already, get on a first name basis with Whittier's FA people.  FA is an annual process and can be re-negotiated regularly.
