I wonder what Tommy Lasorda thinks of his performance

"What's my opinion of Kingman's performance!?"

outstanding Oxy..I take bck all those horrible inner thoughts i had about you...you Oxys must be ok if you like Healy.

When I was at Oxy, and when the meet was on at Santa Anita, I made sure I had no afternoon classes so I could go to the track. One day I met Jim Healy in the clubhouse. (He was a darned good handicapper, by the way.) I gave him two winners, which he mentioned on the air that evening. Thereafter I was a regular contributor to the Healy show, and achieved "correspondent" level.

OxyBob

Keith Olbermann just showed an old film of a race where the winner was named "Hoof Hearted". :o  Can you say that slowly enough? ???

COUNTDOWN........

11 days until camp

26 days until preseason scrimmage

33 days until the opener.....

60 days until the battle at Eagle Rock.

I think this will be an exciting year in the SCIAC with alot of very exciting games.  Does anyone know when the coaches poll comes out?  I remember reading early on that they are very slow at things like that.

Personally, I'm on pins and needles waiting for the Don Hansen's Football Gazette 2007 NCAA Division III Pre-Season All-America Team, which will feature 25 QBs, 35 RBs, 6 TEs, 30 WRs, 25 DEs, 25 DBs, 40 LBs, 10 kickers, and 1 partridge. If any Redlands players are named, the SID will have it up on the school web site within 5 minutes of the release. Within 30 seconds after that, it will be reposted here.

OxyBob

Very funny, but don't hate because Redlands has a competent SID.

I didn't know Bob was such an avid reader of the Redlands website!   ::) ;D

"The Cowboys' first training camp was at the University of the Pacific in Forest Grove, Oregon. It was in the middle of nowhere, a haul from the nearest big city, Portland. [Tom] Landry intended to run a boot camp, and Forest Grove was the perfect place to conduct it away from any distractions. The town had one movie theatre and one bar. Nearby was a maraschino cherry factory. The sweet, syrupy aroma permeated the place as the players sweated under blue skies."

Our friends from the NWC might have a problem with this quote.

Actually it's PACIFIC UNIVERSITY in Forest Grove. University of the Pacific is in Stockton, Ca.

Imagine! My parents sent me to LINFIELD for the same reason Landry chose Forest Grove!

Remember, their first draft choice ever was Bob Lilly from Pendleton, Oregon. Some coaches must have done more than fish in their spare time because Dallas did draft a half a dozen WILDCATS when THE STREAK was barely 10 years old.

A couple more Cal Lutheran sightings...

The second item is from Most Valuable Network, which describes itself as "an independent sports media company relying on the volunteered time of people to 'blog,' or write on the internet, about their favorite sports team or any derivation thereof."

Meet Auburn Running Backs Coach Eddie Gran

QuoteThe best kept secret on this Auburn football staff is no doubt Running Backs Coach Eddie Gran. A California native, Coach Gran played his college ball at powerhouse California Lutheran. He began his coaching career at California Lutheran and made stops in Southeast Missouri State, East Carolina, Miami, Cincinnati, Idaho State, Ole Miss and now to Auburn.

Thanks for the post on Eddie Gran, Bob.  He was a couple of years ahead of me at CLU, and I had no idea he was having a fairly successful career in coaching.  FWIW, I think it's fair to say that the Cal Lu Gran was recruited to in the early '80s was something of a powerhouse - but then we went DII...  That was a bit of a rough transition  :D  (Bob - you can consider your chumming job a success  ;) )

BTW "Cowboys Clubhouse"  ??? ::)

My recollection is that they spent their one night off trolling the El Torito bar...

he played for CLU from 1984-1987. During those 4 years the Kingsmen's record was 19-23-1.

I was already splitting hairs, so now I'll split a few more - as I did not say the CLU teams Gran played on were a powerhouse :)

I said Gran "was recruited into" for a reason.  He was in a group of players brought in on the heels of a very successful period (The Kingsmen were 146-45-5 from 1966-1983) who was sold on the notion that they would take CLU football to the next level.  There were some great players in that group - but CLU lacked the resources to keep up with WFC conference members Portland State, CSUN, Sac State, Southern Utah, Santa Clara, and Cal Poly SLO.  DII proved a bad institutional fit for CLU, which at that point was about 2/3 its current size in terms of undergrad enrollment.  As I mentioned previously, the transition was a tough one, and I think it was difficult for many folks involved with the CLU football, especially those who believed in the dreams of being David amongst the Goliaths, to give up the idea that CLC/U was a small school powerhouse.

I'm laughing at myself as I'm writing this, because of course the irony is that we have no idea why the blogger, or "person who writes on the internet" chose to use the word 'powerhouse' in the first place.  Just one of those things that's close to home because I was a student during this time, and I guess it's a pretty good indicator that I'm just really impatient for the season to start. ;D

Bob (Mr. Cowboy) Lilly was born in Throckmorton, TX and attended school in Pendleton only his senior year and then returned to Texas (TCU) for college.
