I'll let your son fill you in on what equalizers are. If he is in shape they are not a problem.

I'm laughing at myself as I'm writing this, because of course the irony is that we have no idea why the blogger, or "person who writes on the internet" chose to use the word 'powerhouse' in the first place.

The blogger's use of the word powerhouse was his inadvertent way of giving me more ways to annoy you.

OxyBob

You don't annoy me Bob, I would say instead that your editorial vigilance makes me much more careful in matters of phrasing and word selection. ;)

ncdawg11........Equalizers are the football equivilent of "lines" in basketball.

That's not what equalizers are. You're thinking of the conditioning test each player performs when they get to fall camp.

snoop dawg

RFB...as equalizers were briefly explained to me, you run in about 20 yd increments in the shape of a box.  Is that an good description?

Yep, better. Except we used to do them in 50 and 100 yard increments.

snoop dawg

Equalizers...liners....gassers.....all the same, you run your a$$ off until you drop in the 909 heat!   :D

D O.C.

I used to run all out in that smog. Cannot believe it.
WILDCATS used to run sprints of 120's x 10 the first day of practice.
The purpose was two-fold:
A drill to run away from all the missed tackles caused by the gaping holes in the opponents line and to have fun in all the down field blocking as the opponents slowed to watch the touchdown.  8)

DO.C.

As to the second purpose of the drill.....the downfield blocking when the runner is going in for a td....I think that is called a.....cheap shot, isn't it? ::)

D O.C.

Point Of View...never quit or cheap shot.

It was heads up at all times, crack-backs were not outlawed, helping the other team up was not a team rule. Different game.

snoop dawg

So, for instance, the runner is crossing the goal line in a step or two and a defender is 25 yards upfield, do you think a block on him is good sportsmanship or a cheap shot?

I coached youth football for 6 years and one idiot macho coach used to teach that stuff, it lasted until a kid got hurt and he was thrown out of the league.

Neither...I think DUMB is the better answer.  Why risk the penalty?

snoop dawg

Dumb is a good description, in the sense that foremost, someone could get injured for no reason and if the flag is thrown, then the moron coach teaching those stupid tactics will be PO'd because his TD  was called back!

Your point is taken for 25 yards. 10?  7?  5? I have seen plenty of dropped balls for no reason. No opponent should be able to recover such.

Let's play a game! 25 yards back field you step in front of the defender to fundamentally follow through keeping between opponent and ball; simply block their view of the TD . You are grabbed by the shoulder jersey and sent to the ground. Legal? Unsportsmanlike? Would you risk that happening again?

Oh yes, please send me a personal message of your opinion of a good playing weight for Qb this season.
