Don Morel may or may not have been a very religious man... I don't know for sure.  I've heard him talk a few times about going to church but he definitely did not push or preach any part of religion to the teams I was apart of.  From the little I've heard about this new guy he doesn't either.  But his personality and the way he handles people is much more straight edge than Don.  Like I think I've said before the program was in need of a change and hopefully this kind of mentality is it.  I actually think his deep Christian values might even help in recruiting by opening a vein that was previously untapped.

Let's put it this way, Morel wasn't too concerned about ethics or religion.

Did any of you happen to catch the Chiefs game against Miami last night?  Michael Allen saw a lot of action in the first half with somewhat mixed results.  He  made a couple of really nice catches and held onto the ball well.  It just happened that these occurred when the television announcers were interviewing the Chiefs' GM so Allen's name, Whittier College and DIII were mentioned several times.  He had some problems blocking though.  A couple times I noticed a defensive end literally manhandling and throwing him to the ground.

I didn't see the second half so I don't know how much he played.

Good luck to him.

I can only imagine how excited the Whitworth Pirate fan community must be if the announcers put Michael Allan as a Whittier grad!

Whitworth....Whittier....oh, never mind.

Whitworth Pirates vs. Whittier Poets. If you look at their logos, you can see how someone could be confused...

OxyBob

the whittier logo strikes fear in you, doesn't it? ;D

Wow, great to see that this board was up and running during the entire summer. Sure beats the old days of complete silence.

FYI, i stopped by the Rock yesterday and saw some pretty good stuff. The men in orange and black definately have the best O-line in the SCIAC. These big uglys came back in stronger shape than before. All 5 of them will sure do a good job in the pass pro. However, they still got some work ahead of them in the next days to build up their run blocks. Q.b.s are looking good for the first day especially with the new kid coming in. Hope everyone gets a chance to see their favorite team in practice some time before they get in game mode.

Welcome back BrownEagle!

Did you glean any information re any scrimmage in which the boys may engage before their opener up north?

When? Where? etc?

I was a little disappointed that our literary references to Beowulf didn't generate a comment from the ever-pedantic Gregory Sager, who probably has the entire poem memorized in Old English.

OxyBob
I thought maybe the proper spelling might be an issue.  Is it Beowulf or Beowolf? Both seem to have their backers.  I was going to let the master of names, snoop dawg, break the tie. :-\

Thanks tooth,

I haven't heard a word about any scrimmages yet, but, i am sure there will be buzz about one within the next days. College of the Canyons looks like a definate scrimmage considering how close both schools are to each other and the ties that coaching staff has with one another. I know that it's a bit hard to play a J.C like grossmont(sp?) or an arizona school due to the travel, cost and time of planning.

I'll be heading to La Verne sometime next week to handle some business and will be happy to report some info on the leopards. It should be interesting to see how their new H.C is running their camp.

I'm just back from walking to lunch in Pasadena . . . it is frickin' HOT.

Unlike some on this board, I have to confess that I do not, in fact, miss camp and have no desire to return.

I'm enjoying my air conditioned office way too much.
