So.....Kickoff comes out on Monday.  Anyone want to venture a guess as to it's SCIAC  predictions?

I think they will give a slight edge to Oxy based on the last couple of years and UR a very close second based on the returning D...  CLU will be third with the loss of DJ........after that????

GO BULLDOGS!

Pretty money guess. Kickoff is live. And since Pat and I both had a hand in pulling the SCIAC together after we ran into, let's say some "production problems," we'll take the props and/blame for what you think of those picks.

I was pleasantly surprised on what you had to say about my beloved Poets. ..except for the part that said the young DL might be a weak spot. :) I'm sure you meant to say everyone but # 63 might be a weak spot.  ;D

great work..thanks

K-Mac, PC & staff.....It has to be an extremely difficult job to evaluate all the d3 teams, once again you guys have done a great job.  It is especially informative to fans who are new or somewhat new to d3, like myself.  I enjoy reading every last word!

And we certainly get more read for the buck than with Lindy's or S&S that devote almost an entire page to d3! ;)

Browneagle64

Any word from the stag or hen camp?
Are the dawgs learning their offense much quicker this time around or is the rookie O.C. confusing the heck out of the young pups. This sure will be a tough task considering the dawgs bring in an inexperienced o-line and an ex-defensive stud/special team/ tight end coach who is expected to get the dawgs back to glory. Hum, guess we will have to wait and see.

btw, boy did Mr. Al Micheals butcher Cory's last name on national t.v. last night during the gaints/ ravens game. In the end, as long as he is still fighting for feagles spot, here's to cory remaining a gaint in new york.

K-Mac....are production problems a kinder more gentle term for......lack of cooperation? ;)

Well, yes, but probably not in the way you expect. We got great cooperation from SCIAC coaches, including prompt returned calls, at least in the situations I know about. It really could've been a problem and it wasn't.

I'm not going to air the behind-the-scenes dirty laundry any more than I already have, but I didn't want to leave the wrong impression about the help we got from out West.

In fact, in reference to the next post, I was on the phone with Dale Widolff and we were talking about Ohnesorge (I also butchered his name) when coach reminded me he was on TV as we spoke.

It's an exciting time of year!

Between the start of the college football season (18 days; 18 hours; 50 something minutes according to the Occidental website -- http://www.oxy.edu/x13328.xml) and my fantasy draft yesterday I'm ready to go.

I stopped by camp the other day in Eagle Rock... and let me tell you that Sabertooth wasn't kidding when he said it was hot out there.  The Tigers looked great so far and everyone is fired up to be back and playing football.  Can't wait for kickoff.

Here's to a great season.

Go Tigers!
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Article in today's Ventura County Star about CLU:

CLU Football Team Has First Practice With McEnroe As Coach

OxyBob

I heard through a third party that there's a lot of dissension on the Cal Lu campus (players leaving/unhappy) due to the hiring of McEnroe.  Maybe this is more-so a reaction to Squires leaving than his replacement, but McEnroe did good work at Chaminade and really turned that program around.

This is his first go at a head coaching position at the collegiate level, any word from Cal Lu posters how it is going?

Oxy Os...Nice to see you back.  McEnroe  did do a great job at Chaminade.  I don't know why there would be dissention because of his hiring....it's not like they fired Squires and hired McEnroe.

McEnroe is a good guy, I hope the players give him a chance.

I know I am looking forward to seeing my first SCIAC game on Sept 8 out in T.O. (although if I go with kids in tow I don't know how much of the game I'll actually see!!).

Good luck to all SCIAC teams this season!

Oswald - to my knowledge there was one significant player who left (that one got discussed a great deal earlier in the summer) , beyond that every indication I've seen (and read in "Kickoff" - nice work Pat and Keith!) it sounds like there are many key players returning from last year.

It is McEnroe's first head college coaching job, but my guess is that's the usual situation in the SCIAC - it's the first collegiate head coaching job for just about everybody, perhaps this was even true with Widolff and Maynard when they were first hired?

Every transition brings uncertainty, but for now I think it's fair to be optimistic about the upcoming season, especially as the conference appears to be fairly wide open.

Having tried this once, I can tell you I remember the final score and some key plays in critical moments, and not much else on-field stuff.

Talking SCIAC makes me want to get back out to ol' Eagle Rock, Redlands and/or the Pomona/Claremont/LaVerne/Whittier area. Didn't make it over to Cal Lutheran, but I'd like to someday.

Probably one of my favorite geographic realizations when out there in 2004 was realizing San Dimas (of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure fame) was a real place.

KM - There are a lot of really good high school teams in Southern California; San Dimas isn't one of them.  I did once have a secretary who lived there, though. 8)

The San Dimas Saints did make the playoffs last year.
