I agree with RFB, it's 4 days into camp for crying out loud!!!  Sounds to me like the kids in Thousand Oaks need to stop acting like a bunch babies over the whole situation.  It's not like they lost a coach that took them to the SCIAC crown.  SO they have won a little bit the past few years, that is in the past.  Losing your starting QB was bad enough but to have people crying that they were starters LAST YEAR just shows you what kind of kids they have their.  Sounds like somebody needs a kick in the rear to toughen up a little.  I guess driving your brand new truck to your brand new weight room isn't enough for these kids.  Oh yeah, I forgot, they have the ENTIRE football stadium locker to themselves.  I understand the desire to have a new field (which I don't disagree with) but do something about it.  Did the other sports just sit around and wait for the school to build their new facilities, my guess would be no.  I am gonna stop now cause I have no idea where I am going with this ;D

Four days into camp and starters are not given the chance to compete, sounds like  to me the may be looking towards next year and writing this year off.  Hell the coaches have not been around long enough to have made up their mind on any players in the system (returning or new players).  I know from experience, 1982 tie for Big Sky championship at 4-2 in league, coach leaves after 1 year.  1983 starters benched new young players pushed into service go 1-10.  1984 go 12-1 and win a IAA national championship.  Coaches knew in 82 that we were going to suck and gave all the pt to young players for the future . Ofcourse they don't tell the guys ex-starters why.

DAW....Listen to RFB.  He gives good advice.

BOBCAT04........Maybe the starters just assumed that they would be the starters and didnt work during the summer and got passed by.  Competition for positions makes teams better.  Of course, you do need the chance to prove yourself.  It is still McEnroe's show and he will make the final call on all starters, he is a fair guy and wants to win.  He will make sure the best play at every position.

One of the former starters is one of the team leaders. Hits the weight room a week after the season is over to get ready for this year. He's probably the most hard working kid that CLU has. He earned his starting job as freshman after 4 weeks into the season. Started on the scout team and work his way up. For the coach to already know that he is not "athletic enough" after 2 days in pads and 5 days of practice is BS. The DC cannot evaluate talent when you don't give players a chance to prove themselves is beyond me.

HM,

Sounds like this kid you're speaking about is possibly your child. I can understand the frustration if so. Just know this, hard work is always rewarded. He has been successfull his full tenure there. He should look at it as a challenge and push the envelope even harder. It is still early in the season, good things happen to those that are patient.

RFB is also insightful.   It is always tough when something like that happens to your son or daughter.  We have all been there at one time or another.

HATCHET.....
I dont know if CLU is in pads or not yet but if it's any consolation, .......some players look like All Americans while in shorts or just shells, when the hitting begins.....they fade away.  Obviously your son is a hitter or he wouldnt have been a starter for three years.  Tell him to keep working hard and to turn his frustration into effort on the field, and he will get his spot back.

By the way, from my last post, I was just trying to give an example of....why.....what you are telling us, sometimes happens.  I certainly didnt mean to infer your son fit into that category.  In fact, it wasnt until RFB  posted that I realized you once said that your son played at CLU.  Some +k for ya.

Thanks guys. I guess I take it too personal. You're all right it, is still early and anything can happen. Blow a few guys up and coaches hopefully take notice.

I feel your pain, been there before myself.  Good luck to your son, I'm sure it will all work out for him.

There was also some gossip/clarification that makes entertaining reading over on the Post Patterns SOUTH / ASC board.    8)

Dawgs57........I guess Hatchet Molly's post answered your post!!!!  ;) If there isn't team unity, camp can be an awful place to be and also detrimental to a winning (or is it a whining) season.

Coach Thomas is extremely dedicated and will do a great job.  D. Ragsdale was also there in the Spring to help with the offense.

Probably one of my favorite geographic realizations when out there in 2004 was realizing San Dimas (of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure fame) was a real place.

San Dimas High School Football Rules!

KM - There are a lot of really good high school teams in Southern California; San Dimas isn't one of them.  I did once have a secretary who lived there, though. 8)

The San Dimas Saints did make the playoffs last year.

TMerton,
It's a quote from the movie.

When I was out there, I decided to go to a Long Beach Poly first-round playoff game. Got on the 110 or 57 or whatever takes you south from Pomona/Claremont to that other end of the O.C., and the traffic was red brake lights as far as the eye could see.

So I busted the U-turn and caught Chino Hills at Claremont.

I nearly froze, but it was definitely a good experience.

Football season is here!!!

You would have thought I was never going to see the kid again instead of being only an hour away!! :o  But I'm a mom so I'm allowed.  ;D  Cant wait to go watch practice one of these days.  I'm so glad its football time again!!

Go Poets!!

I think it's been mentioned, but that's a fierce-lookin poet you guys got there.
