If your claiming superiority becuase you have a kicker in the NFL, more power to you. Enjoy...and yes, Hall of Fame Coach Goerge Allen would be considered an NFL veteran. He was no punter, but he was good ;)

FTP, just so you don't embarass yourself, please read the following:

Over the years, the Tigers have boasted such standout players as All-America quarterback Jack Kemp '57, who played in the NFL for San Diego and Buffalo before launching a successful political career; tight end Jim Mora '57, head coach of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts; quarterback and defensive back Bill Redell '64, inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006; Rick Fry '78, who led the nation in receptions per game in 1976 and 1977; quarterback Tom Hamilton '78, the 1977 Division III leader in total offense and passing yards; Daniel Osborn '82, who led the nation in punting his senior year; and running back Vance Mueller '86, "Chevrolet Player of the Game" in Oxy's nationally televised 1982 victory over the University of San Diego, who went on to play six seasons with the NFL's Los Angeles Raiders.

As for the current status of Ohnesorge and the discussions thereon . . . as well as the discussion related to Whitworth's Michael Allan . . . over time you will come to realize that most DIII fans will pull for any/all DIII players having a shot in the NFL.  It is a rare circumtance and is a boost to DIII when one of its players goes on to pro status.  Last year many of us were watching and pulling for Linfield's Brett Eliott to make the Chargers, notwithstanding the fact that we were competitors with him over his last two years in the NCAA playoffs.

So Ohnesorge is a punter . . . he's still getting more of a shot than most DIII players ever will, and it's a worthwhile topic while we wait for the season to begin.

As for DawgHeaven's post, I'm guessing that he drives a sports car to compensate for other "little" failings from which he suffers.

My impression is that even with the competitive/adversarial dialogue between Oxy and Redlands fans on this board, most are grounded in reality . . . DawgHeaven, you're invited to smell the coffee anytime you wish.  For example, Oxy has won 4 of the 6 SCIAC football crowns in the 21st Century, three w/ Collins, one without.  And do I really have to go back again to post the overall results of the history between Oxy and Redlands, in which Oxy, not Redlands, has the most wins?

tooth

Tooth,

Oxy has won 4/7. Or does the 21st century technically start in 2001?

2000: Redlands
2001: Oxy
2002: Redlands
2003: Redlands
2004: Oxy
2005: Oxy
2006: Oxy

NCDawg - 75-18 since 1990 didn't sound right, especially since you didn't specify overall or conference record.

I do know Redlands has had 18 losses just since 2003:
6-4 in 2003
4-5 in 2004
5-4 in 2005
4-5 in 2006

19-18 over the last four seasons.  Return to Dominance?

Good catch RFB . . . my framing was indeed intentional.  Notwithstanding common media framing and Y2K frenzy to the contrary, the 21st Century  started on Jan. 1, 2001, which is specifically why I chose to frame it as "21st Century" instead of "since 2000" . . .  ;) :D ;D

SCIAC/Cal Lu transfer QB Danny Jones takes the field tomorrow for his first game as a UWW Warhawk against Lakeland, at Lakeland.

Let's wish him and his teammates good luck.

Yes of course it's all about supporting the D3 players no matter what collegiate ties one has to a particular school.  Heck, I remember applauding Howard Cosell's description during a Monday Nite game many moons ago referencing a NY Giants touchdown: " Look at Brian Deroo, rookie out of the University of Redlands".  That may have happened even before I went to college.

thescout

Good Luck to Danny Jones! He did a good job at Cal Lu, hopefully he'll do the same for the Warhawks.

As for Fear the Poets question, Whittier produced many NFL players as did other teams in the conference in the late 1950's and 60's.  Chuck McMurtry comes to mind. Others may have been less notable.  He was a heck of a lineman.  He did a good job for the Raiders.

Back in those days, professional sports were a different animal than today.

Great history for the schools involved.

Don't worry Newbiw(FTP), we all make mistakes at first on this board.
As most of the older folk on this board have mentioned, you will be surprised at how many people end up rooting for any D3 player who has a chance to make it to the pro's. Heck, check out the SCIAC baseball board sometime in the future and just see how many of us have supported guys from other schools getting a chance to shine in the bigs.

In the mean time, let's just get ready for some football....

thank you old wise one for your understanding. ::)

No, thank *you*, FTP, for your understanding. Admittedly, we SCIAC fans tend to go overboard when one of our own does well in sports. We're not used to big time football prowess and success like you are. After all, this isn't the Freeway League.

OxyBob

anytime you need any advice , let me know. I'm here for you.

I guess my first impression of Occidental was correct when we went on the visit. Full of themselves, better than everyone and not afraid to tell you so and much to high class for the likes of my family.
Thank god the youngster chose the ghetto for his college experience.

For those of us who can count from 1 to 10, the 21st century began in 2001.

Score one for the Bobster, I'll take my lumps when I deserve it. Make that 4/6 for the evil empire. Speaking of the darkside, they had a nice little piece in the LA Times college football preview.

FTP, as a member of the ruling class from Oxy, I grudgingly applaud your blue collar football struggles. The only strategy capable of defeating Oxy on the gridiron is the widest possible unity of all the class and social forces whose interests run counter to those reactionary Tigers. Such an all-inclusive coalition would need to be led of course by working class Whittier, in close alliance with La Verne and other oppressed workers and football players. The coalition will include an ever-growing left-center political coalition that includes progressive independents at Pomona, who recognize the growing danger Occidental football poses (even though they really don't care about football). This all-people's front should strive to, and be able to, attract many who rooted for Oxy in the past.

Workers (and Poets) of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains (or another football game).
