Just FYI,
The starting Q.B jobs are usally determined by this week in practice. I guess, the coachinig staff really want the future q.b.s to always be aware that on any given day the other guy in line can easly take their spot.
As of last week, about 3 Q.B's could be seen rotating in and out of the first- offense unit.
Anywho's, i'm glad that the recent update from the website (as tooth pointed out) mentions how the O-line has a core of leaders and returners who sure will get the job done when protecting the q.b. and making room for the running game.

As for the signs that point to the weekend of october as a crucial game, let's just worry about 1 game at a time as Coach W. would say.

Well thank god I'm not the effin' coach and just a schmuck football board fan who can wax philisophic and ponder permutations and proffer random speculation and stream of thought without consequence.

I hope Redlands and Oxy get their rosters posted before the first game.

Whittier is still working on their numbers. :D

Read in the Spokane paper this morning that Kory Kemp, grandson of a pretty famous Oxy alum - and son of Jeff, will be this year's starting QB for Whitworth.

Looking forward to having Redlands up to Spokane on Saturday.

Not only will the Pirates be motivated to beat a SCIAC team, but the QB will have long since been indoctrinated to beat Redlands.

It should be an exciting game.

Redlands roster is up. Looks like they got a linebacker transfer from Oregon State. Good to see Redlands getting some recruits from the Pacific NW.

[The new SID is showing signs of greatness!]

The Oxy Tigers have captured a trio of SCIAC Championships and looks to continue those winning ways in 2007. Among the players returning are twelve All-SCIAC players from last season including seven Tigers starters on the offensive side of the football, six to the Oxy starting defense and one special teams player.

and Tom Gonzales (Camarillo, Calif.), a SCIAC Honorable Mention, will both be back on the o-line for their

Eat'em up Tigers!
This is a pet peeve of mine.

Where are they honorably mentioned?  Certainly not on the SCIAC website that only lists first and second teams.  The CIA has fewer secrets. :-X

Perhaps the new SID and AD can help get this fixed.  Some of the schools list the members from their schools, but these are not easy to find.  Other conferences that I have looked at seem to print all of them.

Don't worry Oxy will be regulated back to second place status soon enough.

while a Redlands victory over Oxy could relegate the Tigers to a second place SCIAC finish, i'm pretty sure such position will not be the result of any regulation.

God I'm a pompous ass . . . must be my educational background.

Pompous ass? No way. You're a regular guy who regaled us regarding relegate vs. regulate. Register no regret for Oxy's regal reign, while regressing Redlands regroups.

+ Karma for the alliteration.

Anything out of camp about Scott Saunders and Justin Goulds [sic]?
OxyBob

Nothing I've heard.  My best guess is that unless one of the three has clearly emerged in camp, that at least two, if not all three, of them will see playing time against Lewis & Clark to try and shake things out.

But WTF do I know?  All I hope is that at least one of them rises to the top, demonstrates a good arm, some manuverability and leadership so that the Tigers have a shot at their 4th consecutive SCIAC crown.  All signs point to the first weekend of October as a crucial game, eh?

Hopefully BrownEagle is right here in saying that the QB situation will be sorted out before Game 1.  QB controversy played a hand in Occidental's last regular season loss to Chapman in 2004.

http://www.d3football.com/previous_info.php?school=Occidental&year=2004

As some may remember, QB Justin Elway, who led the Tigers to a 4-1 record in 2003 after starter Tyler Paopao went down against PP, was fighting to keep the starting job after the Tigers brought in a transfer from Zillah, WA.

Unfortunately, the offense sputtered with 2 Qb's at the helm.

The Tigers did however find a three-time SCIAC POY in Andy Collins.

QuoteThe Leopards are down in numbers with just 50 players, about half of what Ankeny thinks is ideal.

"It is a factor, but we're not using it as an excuse," he said. "I like what we have here and we're going to do the best we can with what we have."

Translation: "We have no one who can block, run or throw the ball."

OxyBob

Thanks for the article...  Its great that the locker room is organized. I just hope he brings in three bus loads full of recruits from Texas in the spring. It'll be tough with only 50 guys when people start to get injured. I think if he gets the right numbers and can get the kids to buy into the program, big things can be in store for 2009.  Best of luck to my fellow Leos in the 2007 campaign...

I can assure you guys that this time around Oxy will not make the mistake of using a 2 Q.B system. Who will be the next Q.b for the Men in orange and black, i am definately still not sure.

Anywho's, on the eve before the tigers head to Lake Oswego for their season opener, here's a little info about the Pio's (from their website).
I know we all forgot that this week was game week #1:

The Pioneer football team continues the rebuilding process. Twenty-four new players will be at Fred Wilson Field on Sunday, August 19, when practice for the 2007 season begins.

The new faces will be added to a strong core of key returning players. The Pioneers return their top defensive player, their top-scorer, and their offensive leader from the 2006 campaign.

On defense, Kevin Takeno (junior, Midvale, Utah) had a breakout year in 2006. The linebacker led the Pioneers in tackles, averaging 9.0 per game. Takeno was second in the NWC in tackles last season. The Second Team All-Northwest Conference selection was the only sophomore to earn second team defense honors and one of only two non-juniors or seniors on the entire second team. After being sidelined almost the entire season with an injury, DB Ryan Lockard (senior, Creswell, Ore.) was granted a medical redshirt and will be allowed to play his postponed senior season this year.

On offense, quarterback AJ Brown (junior, Vancouver, Wash.) returns to his spot behind center. Brown amassed 1,536 yards passing last season, averaging over 170 per game. Though his favorite receiving target graduated last season, he will have his favorite target in the end zone back in 2007. Wide receiver Mike Wennerlind (senior, Troutdale, Ore.) led the Pioneers in scoring, putting up 30 points last season. Wennerlind is the top returning receiver, averaging 37.8 yards per game last year. James Connelly (junior, El Cajon, Calif.), showed vast improvements last season and should really flourish in his third season in the orange and black. Incoming freshman who should add to the passing game include Paul Stirneman (freshman, Milwaukie, Ore.), Ryan Kostecka (freshman, Napa, Calif.), Disan Suarez (freshman, Calipatria, Calif.).

Running back Matt Meacham (junior, Roseville, Calif.) will have a corps of incoming freshman to help turn around the Pioneer ground game. Harrison Keller, an all-league and all-county running back as well as an MVP, from San Luis Obispo, Calif., Josh Kohansamad, a tailback from Santa Barbara, Calif, and Rex Putnam High's Joevonte Mayes was a first-team all-league running back right across the Sellwood Bridge in Milwaukie, Ore.

Casey Wilson (senior, Las Vegas, Nevada), one of the silent weapons for the Pioneers, earned second team honors for his efforts on the offensive line. The Pioneers will look to the veteran leadership of Wilson and fellow senior Nick Wells (senior, Boulder Creek, Calif.) to hold the front lines. The Pioneers add more size on the line, getting some help in that area from a trio of locals. All-PIL lineman Eric Randall comes to the Pioneers from Benson High. Matthew Gartrell was all-conference as a lineman and a fullback at Centennial High in Gresham. NWOC 5A first team all-league down lineman Angus Blair was an honorable mention all-state selection at St. Helens High.

The football team reports to Palatine Hill Saturday, August 17, 2007 with their first practices on Sunday. The season gets underway Saturday, Sept. 8 when they host top-25 opponent Occidental in a 1pm game at Fred Wilson Field at Griswold Stadium.

Q & A WITH ANDY ANKENY (New ULV Head Coach)

http://www.ulv.edu/athletics/teams/feature.phtml?story_id=58&u_id=2

Is it me or in the second question did he say ULV players didn't think they were on a college team?  He must be referring to the new players because when I was there after at least 6 hours a day every day of football related activities I knew I was playing for a college.
