From the new "Around the Nation" column:

6. Word from Pacific Lutheran's 48-17 win at Cal Lutheran was that the Kingsmen are as out of sorts as they seem. Cal Lutheran was held to minus-5 yards rushing on 24 attempts and went 1-for-12 on third down, among other things. Something is amiss in Thousand Oaks, and it's got to be more than just missing transferred quarterback Danny Jones.

Scandi or any other Cal Lu fans out there care to comment or offer insight?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

I spent most of my Saturday afternoon encouraging 6 year olds to "watch the ball" and "kick it toward THAT goal"... :)

By the time I got to MtClef Stadium the situation was beyond dire.  Based on what I heard from folks who saw the whole thing it sounds like the Kingsmen made tons of unforced errors throughout the game.  That's not to take credit from PLU - who did look stronger than they were 2 years ago.  Although it never hurts when your opponent hands you the ball inside their 30 on 4 separate occasions.

From here I think it can go one of two ways:
1) The mistakes can be chalked up to smoothing out the wrinkles in the coaching/QB transition, things will continue to improve and the Kingsmen will be playing a much better brand of football by the start of conference play.

or

2) Holy crap it's going to be a long year ;D

The kid who was playing QB at the end of the game looked somewhat promising, and it sounds to me like the young Kingsmen got rattled and started doing stuff they'd been coached not to since Pop Warner.  I'm optimistic that things will improve, and it will take a lot more than a rough home opener for me to think that McEnroe was anything but a good hire.

BTW-

I forgot to mention that I heard on NPR this morning that Pitzer is now offering a class studying YouTube.  Apparently students are required to watch YouTube and then make videos of their own in response.

Pat-

Fear not.  I am drafting a letter to the CLU administration encouraging the development of  similar classes for Post Patterns  ;)

From the Oxy website:
Congratulations to Matt Andersen, senior running back, who was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of September 3-9, 2007.

In his final season opener, Andersen began his senior campaign where he finished off a junior year which he led the SCIAC with 18 TDs.

In just over a half of football the running back accumulated 129 all-purpose yards as the Tigers defeated Lewis & Clark 52-0 on opening day. Andersen tallied 96 yards on the ground, good for a pair of 14-yard touchdown runs and a 1-yard leap into the end zone, accounting for 18 points. His longest run of the day was a 21-yard pick-up in the second quarter that led to an Oxy field goal. Additionally he caught three passes for 33-yards in the win.

Good luck to all of you tiger fans who will make the trip up north. Hope you guys drive safe and return home with more insight on the tigers. In addition, Good luck to the rest of the SCIAC teams, i'll try to keep you guys updated on the Whitworth/ Leo game.

Eye of da TIGER

Aww TGIF! just a few more hours and me and 4 other ex-Tigers will be rolling up to the Bay area to catch the Oxy-Menlo game! Does anyone know where the pregame tailgate is going to be held? Im excited to see the Tigers compete for the first time this season, hopefully it will be a good game.
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Anyone with a brief download on Puget Sound? CMS has struggled against UPS for the last 3 years, in sometimes almost baffling ways. It seems to work as so- open with strong win, let down against UPS.

Browneagle64

What's  up E.D.T.

Hope you and the boys have fun up in No. Cal.
Check the Oxy alumni website for the update on where the tailgate will be. (you might have recieved an updated via e-mail from Oxy)
While you are there, go ahead and invite Cawadad to the tailgate (the guy is a Linfield supporter, but sure likes to watch any d3 game at Menlo.)
Have fun man.

CLU has more problems on the defensive side of the ball.

Stating strong safety was moved d-line and quite the team.

True freshman starting this week.  I quess it 3 weeks of practice. 2 scrimages and a game to figure that out.

D cord looks like he is still coaching High School.  He had no game plan to stop the all american wr.  Tried to play man to man, or 3 deep cover 3 all day.  The kid killed them last year with underneath stuff.  I guess he did not watch last years game film.  He made no adjustments during the game, except personel.

#3 QB looked the best, but that was against the scrubbie D

Tom Brady

They moved the starting safety to the d-line ???

Geez, are they going to win any games this year?????

Scandi . . . your Saturdays sound an awful lot like mine! ;D  We gotta enjoy it when we can, even if it keeps us away from our favorite D3 games eh?

At any rate, hope your year doesn't prove to be too long . . . but I fear for you mate.

On a separate note, good luck to the Perv Poets (referring to the mascot, not the character of the students) in their efforts to prevail in their pending reenactment of the Third Punic War.

All of my comments re the upcoming Redlands game are utterly politically incorrect and include references to a well known battleground in eastern Montana . . . so I won't go there.

Good luck to the Stags and Hens in whatever they're up to this week.

Go Oxy . . . "Menlo must be destroyed"

Have a few beers at the tailgate for me EODT

I think that they are looking to next year and writing this year off.  The leading tackler from last year is third on the depth chart.  He was a starter halfway throu first year and started last two years at L.B.  They moved him to the secondary and told him he was not athletic enough to get any p.t. Now he moved up to #2 at ss because the kid quit.

I would appreciate it... don't know if I'm going to make it out. CarlosRossi you gonna be there?

Good luck to all SCIAC this weekend. Go Huskers as well!
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

Maybe... if the wife lets me out of my cage  ;).  For sure I'll be there against Whittier though.
Hail to the Orange!!!

Not sure what good writing the year off will do to CLU. It is one game in.
Also not sure about that roster move. If the kid was the leading tackler.. why would you move him to the secondary and then tell him he wasn't athletic enough? Confusing. Unfortunately, I think this is the problem that transition years between coaches have. New coach wants his recruits to play, and is willing to shun older and more experienced players in favor of his own. In some cases, this can lead to a couple of down years while the coach brings in his crop... not to over analyze. But, I would be saddened if CLU was writing the year off right away. Leverage the experience on the roster so that newbies do not become discouraged quick. Coming in and playing right away is fantastic... but it is mentally difficult when you are the whipping post for others.

Anyways. I got a chuckle out of Tooth for his refraining to make comments about the Redlands game. To avoid getting censored or disciplined by Pat, we'll avoid comments about Redlands getting scalped.

Good luck to all in the SCIAC this weekend. Let's add to our out-of-conference reputation.

Please someone tell me the comment about Pitzer having a class about YouTube is a joke? I already cannot "tolerate" that school... don't make it easier.

Oh MAN! Snow I just noticed your quote under the fight song. That is freaking awesome I havn't thought about that one in years  ;D.  Thanks man you just made my day.
Hail to the Orange!!!

To all you tiger fans driving north for the game....have a great time.

CLU is two years away from being a good team.  Coach McEnroe will turn it around, he is a solid guy and coach.  I am guessing but I would bet he is working hard to convince his ex Chaminade Qb to come next year. He passed for 3500 yds as a jr at Chaiminade but as of now doesnt have an offer from any big school.
