Wow, I will be the first one to say nice job to the CLU QB yesterday since I am also the one that has said a few times how bad he was.  Danny who ;D?
SO does that kind of day get him a nod for D3football.com Team of the Week?
Anyhoo, sounds like the CMS/Oxy game was pretty entertaining.  Maybe I am way off here, and I am sure I will get some crap for this but did this game show people that OXY might not be a dominant as the past few years.  I have no idea how the game went, I am just wondering based on the score.
Did Redlands forget their "O" in the desert, but hey, a win is a win.
Looks like a pretty big showdown next week.

Thanks to OB for a nice report on the CMS OXY game. A heartbreaker. A fair and balanced report... OB you should work for Fox News with skills like that. W/o watching, well played by both teams. A bit of a heartbreaker to see that score, but also something on which to hang your hat. Question becomes, does the team become discouraged or more determined... hopefully the latter. The remaining road is not a cake walk, especially with a strong Poet team. However, if OXY is the cream of the crop and CMS comes out firing the rest of the way, there is a good chance for a winning record.

On another note:
Come on now... we went over this last year when CMS beat Cal Lu. It doesn't matter if you are missing starters (CLU last year). Most teams are playing each week either missing a starter or two or having a couple who are banged up. This is almost starting to sound like the Puget Sound guys after their loss last week. Yeah all that matters is having to play the game. But let's not go about here starting to sound like UPS or like last year after CMS beat CLU. I'm not saying CMS is a title contender. I'm not saying they'll go 7-2 or 6-3.. or even predicting they will beat Redlands. But the truth of the matter is as follows - CMS does not always travel well (speaking from personal experience), the win over Kenyon probably should have been more dominant. CMS, for the last 4 years has not played UPS well ... (edit) Neither one of these are or should be viewed as excuses. This is just the way it (currently) is. Not an excuse, the reality of the situation. It is frustrating, but it will remain this way until everyone involved steps up to get the monkey (both of them) off of their backs. The team should travel (overnight) better and play UPS better. One is a matter of maturity, the other of consistency. Regardless, the truth is that CMS is a dangerous team when they choose to be. They have not found the consistency needed to regularly play with and beat the top teams. But, when they do have it all working, they are capable of doing so. I won't assign blame to any one aspect of the program - rather saying that all involved need to work to find the consistency to regularly challenge Oxy and Redlands. Yes, Oxy is probably better than a 1 point victory against CMS. However, the only evidence we have this season is that Oxy is only 1 point better than CMS. Maybe, w/o God (I mean Collins) and other graduates, Oxy is not the team that rolled the SCIAC for the last 3 years. Whether they are dominant or just very good won't be determined until the regular season is over. But Redlands isn't exactly the Mount of the SCIAC either. Do they have a good defense... yeah it seems that way. But the scoreboard says they are only 12 points better than Chapman, which isn't exactly the best team in Southern Cal. Were both teams maybe looking by the games to next week? Probably. But after watching other games this week, that excuse is not valid. It happens every year to someone in the SCIAC and happens just about every week in college football. Here is my opinion on why UPS doesn't move further up the totem pole in the NWC - the inability to look themselves in the mirror and say "we played like s**t this week. It doesn't matter who we faced or who we are playing next, we just flat out did not play good football." I would hope for the sake of players on both Oxy and Redlands that they can look themselves in the mirror and (if that is true) provide an honest assessment. Because, if both teams did look past their respective games, then whoever uses it more as an excuse will most likely be the one with fewer points on the board next weekend.

Not meant to be a rant, but it is extremely anoying when your team has a big win or plays a good and close game against a top team, that everyone looks for excuses. I learned really fast as a player in college football that it doesn't mean jack who you play, all that matters is Ws and Ls. Unfortunately, (edit) I do not think enough players, coaches, fans or even parents have this perspective on the game or on life. The ability to face every challenge with the same strength and toughness is what defines a player's character. We all fail (I know I did), but the players and teams who can catch themselves, and refocus on the ultimate objective, be it Ws and Ls (or just improving for struggling programs) are the ones who become great... be it on the field or life in general.

ECS...Very philosophic......good post.  +k for ya.

From the sounds of the Oxy-CMS game posts and after seeing the UR game....if either Oxy or UR play next week like they did this week, that team will get the L.

Anyone know where to tailgate at OXY???  My family and I would sure appreciate any suggestions for the game there vs Redlands on Oct 6.  Thank you in advance.

Redlands has leaped over Oxy to reach number 25 in this week's poll.  Oxy is 26th.

It doesn't get any better than this.  Well, one and two would be better. :)

Thanks to BoBo on the WIAC board, here are a couple of very good videos of Danny Jones' game against LAX.

He obviously learned his comeback technique watching OxyCollins in last year's CLU/Oxy game.

If he would have stuck around, the SCIAC would have teams ranked 24, 25, and 26, and moving up in Keith's conference rankings. :'(

Congrats to Redlands for breaking into the top 25. Big game next weekend at the Rock. Looking forward to it.

Wow P-mack,

I'm still digesting yesterday's close games for Oxy & Redlands that tailgating for this upcoming saturday wasn't even on my radar. Unfortunately i wasn't able to attend the game but was kept updated throughout the Oxy girls volleyball game back at the Rock through out the night and boy was it tough to hear.

However, if you insist, the lower parking lot near the softball field (that's near the main entrance to Oxy) is were all the pre-game action will be for Oxy and pup tailgaters all alike. I'm sure you will be updated through out the week from other Oxy and pup posters as the week progresses, until then....i hope that both Oxy and redlands study their own game film to get ready for their biggest game of the season. There should be no room for sloppiness and milling like sheep this week.

Congrats to the Dawgs for breaking into the top 25!

If they want to stay there they will have to step it up next weekend to beat Oxy at home.

I'm sure this will elicit many an angry response (not intended to do so) but how does Linfield stay in the top 25 after losing to Willamet who is 2-3?

Pat Coleman

Is that a serious question or are you just complaining to see your own voice?

Because they've played more than one game this season and all of them are taken into account.

Geeeez......Im not complaining, just asking , yes, a serious question.  They are 1-2 and were beat by a team that isnt highly regarded.  I understand that they have played a tough schedule but....I would think the loss would have really hurt their ranking.

Pat Coleman

They went from 12 to 23. Sorry that wasn't enough for you.

I could care less where Linfield is ranked.  I posed the question in an attempt to open a topic for discussion, isn't that what the board is supposed to be about?    However, I guess you answered the question.  Why the hostility?
