"Ricky and Lucy are heading North to Watch the Poets go against Cal Lutheren this saturday. What is the scouting report on CLU? Run? Pass? Strong defense?"

Fear the Poet- I predict a shootout in Thousand Oaks between Whittiers Scurlock and The Kingsmen's Toilolo. Toilolo passed for 6 (yes 6) touchdowns for only... 464 yards. I don't know what to make of that other than ...tremendous!!  Cal Lu under Coach Squires was always a spread shootout offense. Probably the new coach has kept with that tradition. i have said before that Scurlock for your team is impressive and if "on' which is most of the time, he will put up the points. Defense on both sides would have to be considered suspect at this point. La Verne scored 24 points against the "Lu" which was triple their total for the whole season up to that point. PLU put up huge points against them as well. "Your Poets" have allowed 35, 26 and 7pts (against lowly PP). If they can hold back the passing offense of the "LU" , then Scurlock and the fellas should prevail. I will be there (1:00pm game) before heading to the Rock for the "other "game.

Secret of Redbulldog- Going to the CLU this weekend for MY college reunion. Yet both sons, One currently, played for Redlands, CLU's historical arch enermy. Do you suppose I have gotton alot of crap for that from my old teammates? You bettcha!  Good Luck, should be a great game.

I could care less where Linfield is ranked.  I posed the question in an attempt to open a topic for discussion, isn't that what the board is supposed to be about?    However, I guess you answered the question.  Why the hostility?

Guess it's hard to have a reasonable conversation with someone who doesn't think dropping 12 spots is getting hurt a lot in the poll and who wants to rank a team based solely on one game.

........... How does Linfield stay in the top 25 after losing to Willamet who is 2-3?"

I thought I was asking a question. I guess that was unreasonable on my part. If I was stating an opinion, feel free to disagree.   You stated your opinion, thank you.

Your not alone, dawg.  I was trying to do a similar thing on the WIAC board, but the devil horns made an ugly appearance, too.

The question carries the opinion that Linfield doesn't belong in the Top 25. If we were only going off last week's game, a lot of teams near the bottom wouldn't belong in the poll either.

Redlands and Oxy.  25 and 26 in the nation.  What is the line going into the game?  Will the Bulldogs win at Petterson Field for the first time since 2003?  Bulldog alumni we need to rally up and have a huge turnout to help the Dawgs turn the tide in conference.  In the words of the Owner, "how we gonna do it Dawgs?"

As far as Linfield, a national championship and deep runs in the playoffs are enough to keep them ranked after starting slow.  The only thing I am worried about is when they rebound, the winner of this weeks SCIAC championship game will have to play them at home in the first round of the playoffs.

I hope you're right Dawg...we'll see.  We've got to win this week first... :-\

Anyhoo, sounds like the CMS/Oxy game was pretty entertaining.  Maybe I am way off here, and I am sure I will get some crap for this but did this game show people that OXY might not be a dominant as the past few years.  I have no idea how the game went, I am just wondering based on the score.
Entertaining isn't the word, more like gut-wrenching.  Oxy seemingly had control late in the game up 28-14 but miscues on offense and special teams really hurt and CMS was able to take advantage.  I think you under-estimate the Oxy faithful though, it's going to be a fight for Oxy to remain at the top of the SCIAC and Saturday's game was proof of that.  This week of practice is going to be tough.  The Tigers will get it done when it comes game time on Saturday.

Eyewitness report from Claremont:

Oxy 28, CMS 27

Beautiful cool, clear evening at Fritz Burns Stadium. Excellent turnout for the SCIAC opener....

Oxy drove down and had a 4th and 3 inside the CMS 25. Rather than try for a long field goal, Oxy went for it but Jason Haller, subbing for injured Matt Andersen, was stopped short, and CMS got the ball back with about a minute and a half to go and no timeouts. The Stags moved the ball to the Oxy 36, but Zack Mallove's 46-yard FG try was short, and Oxy ran out the clock and hung on for the victory.

CMS played its heart out but came up short. Great win for Oxy.

OxyBob
Not to split hairs but the field goal was partially blocked by NG James Sabo.

Anyone know where to tailgate at OXY???  My family and I would sure appreciate any suggestions for the game there vs Redlands on Oct 6.  Thank you in advance.

Paddymac
The Oxy tailgaters call the Bell Field (softball) Parking Lot home.  If you enter the campus on Alumni Dr., make a right and you will be in the right spot.  The stadium is a short walk through campus from there.

Here is a map:

There is an arrow pointing to the parking lot that says "PATTERSON FIELD & RUSH GYM VISITOR PARKING"
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.
