Conference championships in the SCIAC are based on number of SCIAC games won.  There is no tiebreaker.

OB - that is hilarious about the Bulldogs having to walk back if they lost.  Sad but true.

As for this upcoming weekend picks:

Oxy, Redlands, Chapman, and Cal Lu win.  Should be a cake walk for all home teams.

Wait a second GF...even if you are correct, it makes no sense.  Assume Oxy loses to the last place team in the SCIAC, and, UR blows out every other team in the SCIAC (Whittier???)Just kidding R&L .......both finish 5-1 in the SCIAC, I understand they might be co champs per the SCIAC, but who goes to the dance?  Under those circumstances, a tie breaker is a must, obviously Oxy should go because they beat UR.  I would have to believe that Oxy would get the auto bid from the NCAA and UR would be trying to get in on a pool B bid.  While not impossibile, very difficult to say the least....Go Whitworth & Chapman. ;D

All kidding aside, it would be fun to see a rematch, the intensity would be magnified 10 fold and the Oxy announcer would be hoarse from reading the NCAA announcement over and over and over and over..................... ;)

Pat Coleman

Yes, there would be a tiebreaker. But in most conferences, both schools would be called conference champions.

PC,   Can you tell us what the tie breaker is, I imagine it's head to head competition.  Is the tie breaker a SCIAC tie breaker or NCAA tie breaker?

It's really too bad for UR and Oxy that the whole season pretty much rests on this one game.  I'm not saying that they can't be beat by the other SCIAC  teams, like UR & Whittier last year, but they have to be the favorite in all the remaining games.

It would be much more interesting if it were a 3 or 4 team race.  Who knows, with the way college football is going this year....it just might turn out that way.  Lets hope so, it's alot more fun.

I looked at the current version of the SCIAC website and couldn't find the information.  I think it was in previous versions.  I think the ADs vote, but I'm not sure.

Conferences determine their own tiebreakers. I don't know of any conference that doesn't use head-to-head competition to break a two-way tie in football.

Oxy is looking very good this year, but they have had two very close SCIAC games in a row.  It's not like they are dominating the conference.  I know The Leps haven't shown too much this year and last weeks game was the kind of game that can completely ruin a team for a season...but I think this is a great opportunity for Coach Ankeny to show what he's got.  The Leps have some good players at receiver and running back and their QB is very capable.  They have an opportunity this week to do something historic.  I believe it's not impossible.  I believe it is very realistic.  To take a cue from the Golden State Warriors: I BELIEVE!

Cal Lutheran got a nice write-up in the Ventura County Star after its win over Whittier:

Balancing Act Gives CLU A Level Record

Quote
[Q]uarterback Jericho Toilolo ... made some good tuck-and-run decisions while under pressure, and also scrambled to buy himself time. He finished 16 of 31 for 196 yards with a touchdown, and also ran for 48 yards while withstanding four first-half sacks.

"He dealt with some adversity," said McEnroe. "He got hit a few times before we dealt with their outside pressure."

Some of that adversity was supplied by Little Ricky Ricardo, who flattened Toilolo on one sack. I love the "He/we dealt with adversity" cliché. Ranks right up there with "He took it to the next level," "He came up big time," and "We can only go as far as our defense takes us."

Quote"We can only go as far as our defense takes us," said [RB Jose] Rojas. "Defense does win championships — we believe that, and our defense played well today. When we're clicking on all cylinders, we're a pretty good team."

thanks for the reminder..the Poets have the SCIAC just where they want them.  ;)

For anyone interested, you can purchase an Oct. 18, 1957 Occidental v. LaVerne football program on Ebay for a mere $19.95.

Or, you can buy a half rack of Corona and a bag o' chips . . .

I'll go with the beer and chips, reasonable people may have differing views . . .

Bob . . . while the investment in the program, or beer and chips, is probably not enough to get you a three months supply of Enzyte . . . if you give your beer and chips to your date, she may nevertheless view with an "enhanced" perspective . . . at least 'til dawn.

Make that We Believe...  Such a tough loss to the Sagecocks on Saturday. Hopefully Ankeny has some tricks up his sleeve. Defense will need to step up.WE needa dub!

I just realized that I may be taking us down the path of the MIAC board by raising beer and chips as a discussion point . . .

On the other hand, you can surely see the regional distinctions:

Hamms and brats as opposed to Corona and chips . . .

Yo quiero cerveza ahora . . . hmmmm . . . cerveza . . . . mucho gusto . . .

Come on, Tooth!  You know us left coast guys need a nice micro brew (Red Seal, Full Sail, etc.) to go with our brats!

The MIAC guys do crack me up when they have "drink what your dad/grandpa drank" tailgates.
That would leave me with Wiedemann's, Old Style, and Burgie's as my beverage selections.  Now that's livin'!

Bob-
Please take comfort in knowing that we Cal Lu supporters are 'taking it one game at a time.' ;)
