Eye of da TIGER

Some of you older guys on here or those with plenty of time to research it be might able to answer this question. But, when was the last time that any SCIAC team won 4 consecutive outright SCIAC titles? I know that Redlands must have done it, but has anyone else in recent history? Also, where does Oxy's current 24 game SCIAC win streak rank?
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

I'm going to date myself here but do any of you old farts like me remember the "roll block", not sure if that is the correct name or not.  I was a DB and the Oline guys would come down field and dive at your knees and roll on the ground like a log at you and take you down.  I kicked more than one of those ba&%$#&s in the head, man I hated that stuff.  I would rather he come at me to knock me down, at least I could get out of his way.

The Redlands article(no gender intended) does address what I believe to be  a problem at UR.  In fact, that problem might have cost them the Oxy game.

When I was in 7th grade they taught us to do something like that but it started by putting your hands down to the ground and then throwing your body up so you were almost parallel to the ground.  You'd be just below the other guy's waist, not rolling on the ground.  We used it for blocking on kickoffs.  I think they banned it by the time I hit 9th grade.  And yes, before you ask, a few kids were playing with leather helmets (late 50s).

I'm probably biased becuase Little Ricky could have busted a knee and leg..but regardless, I was about to go down and beat Owen's ass.

I noticed in the WC-Chapman box score that Little Ricky was able to rise above all of the cut blocks and lead the Poets with 6 tackles and half of a sack.

OxyBob

he did..thanks

Dad likes to complain, but LR did adjust to the cut blocks during the course of the game. I asked him about it, he said no big deal and that he figured it out pretty quick.

Ricky was going to have to get in line behind lucy when it came to "Beating Owen's Ass"  I was a bit perturbed  to see the Oline guys  trying to take out Little Ricky with those "ILLEGAL" Chop blocks.  Even though he was able to adjust to it doesn't make it right for one guy to come at him and another to try and take him out under the knee.  Had he been injured there would have been hell to pay.   :(

Chalk block

Oooops, looks like we fumblerooskied.

I believe the terms that have been in question most of the day are chop block, cut block, and crackback.  That's what they are called, I'm not sure why.  I didn't write the rule book.  Maybe Sabertooth was around then... any comments?

Crackback: Eligible receivers who take or move to a position more than two yards outside the tackle may not block an opponent below the waist if they then move back inside to block. The offensive team is penalized 10 yards for this infraction.

Chop block - This is an illegal block thrown below the waist of an opposing player. These types of blocks have been known to cause severe leg injuries to the opposing player. The offensive team is penalized 15 yards for this infraction.

Cut block - A block at the knees.  Legal by most standards unless coming from the outside in (see Crackback).  Controversial at best but widely used throughout all levels of football.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

BOBCAT04

Glad to see clarification on the chop block which is illegal, cutting someone at the knees is legal as long as he is not engaged with another blocker.  I am sure that the coaches would have screamed bloody murder if guys were getting  chopped block all day long and if they were getting chopped that officiating crew should be suspended for not calling it.

Then the officating crew should be suspended...because they weren't calling it and they were "chop" blocking.

You bet I got comments . . . .

Either way, Whittier lost.  This week they should have an easier time against another team of their caliber.

As for teams winning four straight titles, Whittier did it twice.  The last time they did it, Godfrey was their coach.

At least the Poets can relish in their past history.  They are trying to rebuild, but it seems its always a struggle.

On a side note, Oxy should have a great weekend keeping the drum against the Hens.
