Your right Carlo, It is hard to believe that one time during the last 20 years or so, La Verne had a winning program. Through out the past two years that i have had business to do on the La Verne campus, I've  had the opportunity to talk to more than enough La Verne football Alums who considered that period to be a highlight and joy. Yet, as time progressed and things like admin changes occured and the negative help towards the FB started to show up, these guys felt like their school was letting them down. Boy did the school admini make these guys ticked off, as many of them wouldn't even consider donating their money to the school master plan or even for fundraising need. I sure do hope that they one day reconsider helping ULV for the sake of helping some student recieve a good education.

Yes, La Verne used to beat people. During their run from 1993-1995, they just about beat everybody, including some very good Redlands teams. That run also included an 8-0 1996 team that was beat by Redlands the last game of the season for the SCIAC title in overtime. It's just strange that they fell off the map as a program after such a good run.

It was a change in administration that helped them fall of the map.  Rex Huigens was rumored to retire because it became such a stressful situation dealing with the Admissions office because they became so anti-athletics.  I've been told by former players of his that he was one of the best recruiters you would ever meet but he got so frustrated with the administration that it wasn't worth it anymore.  This is just what I've heard and none of it is from Coach Huigens himself.  He's doing pretty well with the Leopards golf team though.

True, True, True. Not to mention that the past few years, the facilities and equipment at ULV haven't been the greatest... Now that the "Building on Excellence" campaign is in full effect, the locker room, weight room and student center wont be such an eyesore.

OK.  I will drop it.  For this year anyway...
I hope it's a good game.

Speaking of eyesores, does that mean ULV will be tearing down that riduculously ugly Circus tent?

No. They will not. Next time your at ULV though I invite you to take a look inside the "Sports Science and Athletics Pavilion." It's recently been renovated and you'll realize that its a lot nicer than the Junior High Gym your basketball team plays in.  ;D

If Chapman were in the SCIAC, there would currently be a four way tie for first at 4-1.

QuoteCan you help me out with this?  How classy of a guy is coach Squires?

You did not ask me but that was a very public inquiry...

I went to the PLU-Chapman game last year in some LINFIELD gear and somebody behind me had the audacity to start giving me c*** about it and it was Squires.  Nice as could be in his sense of humor.

I went to the OXY-CLU game last year and happened to sit on the lawn next to his wife and kids. He recognized me, said 'howdy' and came within six feet of beating the Tigers. After the game he spoke and actually introduced me to some recruits on the field. Again with some humor about LINFIELD
I understood PLU alumni are one group that can do that. The johns try but PLU beat them and you have that Kevin Bacon thing.

Much respect to CLU for digging out of a 0-2 hole. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jericho.
But smack talk like,
"They did a nice job," Occidental coach Dale Widolff said. "New coach, new quarterback -- their quarterback stepped in -- and I think we'd almost rather play against Danny Jones than the two quarterbacks they've had to go with. Both those guys have done a great job." You forgot the O line and receiving corp has to play also.
No coach you wouldn't want to play against Danny Jones/Warhawks again. Only reason you came back last year after a 21 point deficit was because CLU D coordinator had a panic attack with Oxy's hurry up/no huddle O and Collins.  But respect to OXY for the effort.

"If the Kingsmen can finish out the regular season with two wins it could set up a potential playoff match up with UW-Whitewater which would pit the Warhawks and Danny Jones against his former team."

"I hope we get to," Richards said. "We'll show Danny we're gonna hit him."

If and when it get's to that point and that is a huge if, I am sure the WW O line is going to make thier own statement on the feild  ;D Jones is a full blooded Warhawk now. La Crosse come back proved he can lead and the whipping of MHB, then #2 solidified his place as a brother in arms.

So please keep up the smack talk Oxy coach and all others in the JV SIAC. Feeding the lions is never a good thing when your in the same cage.

One thing at a time CLU. It ain't over yet. You have two teams left that will have something to say about your future. But we do hope and pray you get to come to WW for a dose of reality.  :)

Snow Leopard-
I saw your post and discovered that ULV finally has some pics of the renovated Pavillion up.  It does look like a big improvement.  I don't know that I'd relegate Currier to "Junior High Gym" status, I've always appreciated it's historic charm.  But then again, I am a guy who spent years watching basketball in a converted, WWII era, airplane hanger  :D

Pat-
Many thanks for the front page coverage of the Kingsmen!  Clearly there was interest in your piece all over our region. ;)

Take a chill pill Stealth,

I don't think that Coach W was in anyway talking smack or disrespecting anyone. I am sure his comments were intended to just get some laughter about the new upraising of a 2nd and 3rd string Q.B who have shed great light in the land of the who. I am sure Coach W did give props to the entire CLU team, but, you have to remember that he didn't write the column and that the reporter who did, only shed some light about what was said during the interview.

Hey Scandii just to shed some light on some of the ULV makeovers, the pavillion was worked on from the Inside. Most of the outside structure was left alone. The "old high school gym-like structure" adjacent to the Pavillion (home of the old P.E. dept. and old bball gym) though was indeed taken down. My understanding is that is should be up by spring. Correct if I'm wrong Snowlep. Speaking of these make overs, is it true that a bigger athlethic facility is being built south of the old pavillion Snowlep?

Right on, CLU did get consevitive last year against OXY in the second half, and OXY took advantage of that.  CLU is not talking smack, they are just looking for the opportunity to play against DJ.
Some players are still pissed, but many others talk to him weekly and wish him well.  They were listening to the game last week and know how good WW is.

Every kid in the country would like to play against a former teammate that transfer to another schooll, the playoffs are the only way that will happen in this case

Sabretooth Tiger

So Stealth . . . . is it west coast envy or some other psychological debilitation from which you suffer? How you could interpret Coach Widolff's props to the Cal Lu QBs as "smack talk" suggests that you could find offense in the comment:  "Good morning."

For crying out loud, the WIAC is the toughest conference in D3, don't you have better things to do than whine about local socal newspaper quotes?

Feel free to drop by for a "g'day mate" but keep your whining in kenosha, or whitewater, or curtiss or wherever your ego resides.

And what exactly is a "JV SIAC?" . . . oh, I know, cutting edge humor reflecting so well on Wisconsin D3 fans.

English major?  Which WIAC team is nicknamed the Lions?  And actually, if you're ever trapped in a cage with a lion, wouldn't you rather have food to feed it than see it hungry?

Just a bad analogy . . . points to ponder on future drive-bys . . . .

snoop dawg

Congrats to CLU on making the front page....Coach ben has done a great job in not only letting the season go down the toilet but bringing it back to where they might win the SCIAC.

Can anyone state for sure that,  if UR beats CLU and they, along with Oxy, finish with the same league record, that CLU get the AQ based on the "Rose Bowl" rule?
