Did I read that correct?  ULV 31-7 over CMS

;D ;D ;D
Thats right baby! Leos over the Stags 31-7 at the ORT! Congrats to Coach Ankeny on his first victory at La Verne, and I wish him many, many more. I'm relieved that were not going 0-9 this year... Small victory, but big at the same time.

Nice!  You know the biggest thing that jumped out at me in the write up is that they actually ran the ball a little bit.  He only had 14 carries and I don't know if those were when the game was out of hand but a huge problem I noticed when I saw them live was that they ran the ball THREE times in the whole game.

Congratulations Leps. The first one is the hardest.  Lets finish strong against Chapman and have something to build on next year.
Hail to the Orange!!!

Ouch.
This is embarassing. I won't make comments like UPS people or like those who questioned CMS against OXY. You play the game to determine a winner. That doesn't happen on boards or chatrooms, etc. They won. They kicked our ass. Plain and simple. We didn't lose to an inferior team. We did lose to a team struggling to regroup after a hard off season and hungry for their first win under a new coach. For this ass kicking I say job well done to Laverne. At the end of the day, everything else aside, they were the better team.
However, this is truly disgusting. Since the days of Gocong ended, CMS has been an embarassment. Something needs to be done. The administration needs to take a serious look at the direction of the program. I am sick and f*cking tired of teams like XC and others questioning the validity of football. There are plenty of elite schools with excellent football teams and produce excellent students as well. Bottom line - something needs to be done and needs to be done NOW. I won't question the players. I have friends on the team and played with a good portion of these guys. However, there is NO, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, to be having hangover games like this one. You cannot continue to put out uncompetitive teams like this. Since game 1 of 2004 when the team received votes for the top 25, it has been a steady slide. Something needs to be done this post season, before voices in the english department and on the track team do something along the lines of eliminating the program. There is absolutely no reason why CMS shouldn't be a 4-5 win team every year. It needs to become a program.. not just a team.
As a player and an alum, I am thoroughly disappointed by the results. I do not question the effort of players on the field. But wonder if they really have been prepared to win at the collegiate level.
I am embarrassed and hope that at least the players have enough pride in the team (edit) and have enough stag love and respect for prior players and teams to bring their all against Pomona and bring home the Peace Pipe no matter what else is going on.. whether necessary preparations are being made (or not), no matter what other people on campus might say.. for the seniors, this is your last game, the last time to put on a helmet and uniform.... you will remember and miss the game.... you won't dwell on the results when you are 40.. but at the same time, you owe it to yourselves to pour every ounce of energy into preparing yourselves for this final game. It is a building block for the underclassmen and the program, and it will be on what you hang your hat. Throw yourselves into film lifting, running, practice, walkthoughs, everything. Do not let up, do not slack off. Go out with pride.
Take back the PEACE PIPE and walk off the field with your heads held high - with pride and satisfaction that you left every ounce of energy on the field.
Stag Love.

I feel your pain ECS. Its been a tough year for my Leos. Actually tough few years. Like you, I'm a recent Alum, but I didn't get to taste much success as the best year when I was there was 5-4. So believe me, you guys aren't in that bad of a spot..
And I understand what its like to have the validity of the program questioned by other teams on campus... ULV's Volleyball team has been ranked in the top 5 nationally for like the last 10 years. We also took alot of heat when Ragsdale cut the mens vball program which was also a perenial National power... Many voiced that it was Football that should be cut. And, The Baseball team's back-to-back SCIAC titles also didnt make us look so good.

If we look back to the days in the nineties when ULV was running the SCIAC and even beating D2 Somona State, one would think that it would be the foundation for successful program.
From what I hear, Administration and Admissions made that difficult.  :-X
La Verne  has a smaller undergrad size than the rest of the SCIAC schools and definitely doesn't have the postcard pretty campus/facilities like you and many other schools have to attract students...
I guess we often forget that we are D3 schools in what is supposed to be an Academic Conference (which I would imagine would be even more of a factor in Claremont...)
Just remember every team goes through a tough stretch, (and I agree, shouldn't accept mediocrity)... just look at Nebraska and Notre Dame...
Good Luck to a classy CMS program the rest of the way, and maybe a few years down the road they'll meet my Leps in a battle for the SCIAC title.
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

Whittier has a slightly smaller undergrad enrollment, although La Verne has fewer males attending

Was that the same Gocong team who came into Ted Runner Stadium and got rolled in the 02 Championship game?

Just checking....

GO BULLDOGS!

Sabretooth Tiger

So we've got the most down to the wire SCIAC finish in years and this board goes silent?  OB and RFB have to debate running up the score on the NWC board?  Where's your local pride boys?

Think about this weekend:

Cal Lu wins, Oxy loses - Cal Lu is champ and Pool A
Cal Lu wins, Oxy wins - Cal Lu is champ and Pool A . . . Oxy has a shot at a Pool C
Cal Lu loses, Oxy loses - Redlands is co-champ and Pool A based on H2H
Cal Lu loses, Oxy wins - 3 way conf champion tie, Cal Lu still gets Pool A based on Rose Bowl rule - and Oxy and Redland both wait to see how NCAA ranking sort out to see whether either gets a pool C.

discuss, cheer, prognosticate, speculate and rant away.

The Redlands vs. Cal Lu game is going to be a good one. I see Oxy beating Whittier by three touchdowns. If the end result is a three way tie my gut tells me that both Redlands & Oxy get left home. The SCIAC has not done enough to overcome the perceived lack of conference strength.

Tom Brady

Tooth-  I will take a stab and give my opinion, which I know will be thrown right back in my face ;D

I will say that OXY will crush Whittier next week.
I will not say that UR will spank Cal Lu (which is what all Redlands fans believe)
If UR does come to Thousand Oaks and beats CLU, and OXY wins as well, I don't see ANY way the NCAA can justify taking OXY over Redlands, or Redlands over OXY.

It might come down to h2h, but how do you take OXY if they lost to CLU and Redlands beat CLU?
How do you take Redlands since they lost to OXY.
Call me crazy but there is no way the SCIAC is going to get all 3 in.  If the SCIAC gets 2 in, the NCAA would probably make the worst choice by putting 2 teams from the same conference in a first round match-up.
No matter what happens, I think there are going to be some pretty unhappy people.

Tom Brady

RFB-  I have to say I agree with you that OXY and UR get left home if there is a 3 way tie.  Is that fair?  No way, but like you said, the SCIAC has not done enough to get more than one team in.

RFB

Bob,

Sounds like the Oxy/Chapman game was a thriller? Thoughts?

thanks for being gentle..I'm very fragile right now. :)

on a side note, LR did not play this week due to injury..that could have been good for six td's the other way. :)

I believe that if Redlands hands 40 on Cal Lu then there is no way they can be held out of the playoffs.  The closer the score, the less chance the Dogs go.  But if I was voting, and Redlands dominated Cal Lu...how can you send Cal Lu?

There are a lot of "what if's" but thats what makes this site so good!

Lets just hope the dogs can get a V...then let everything else take care of its self.
