If Chapman were in the SCIAC, there would currently be a four way tie for first at 4-1.
The standings after this week would be, CLU, Oxy, and UR all at 5-1, and Chapman at 4-2

Because Chapman has played all SCIAC schools, this may be a factor in choosing any Pool C representative.

The Redlands vs. Cal Lu game is going to be a good one. I see Oxy beating Whittier by three touchdowns. If the end result is a three way tie my gut tells me that both Redlands & Oxy get left home. The SCIAC has not done enough to overcome the perceived lack of conference strength.

Redlandsfan-  Have you ever even considered the fact that CLU might, just might be able to keep the all mighty Bulldogs from hanging 100 on CLU.  I guess Cal Lu should just let UR come in and do what they please and then after finding out if Oxy wins, CLU should just decide not to go to the Playoffs.
I hate to say it but you are dreaming if you think UR is going to get in over OXY after OXY just beat a pretty darn good Chapman team, and OXY already beat UR.  What would make the Bulldogs jump in the regional rankings?  Oh wait, maybe putting up 59 on Whittier.  Maybe it was the 49 yard bombs they were throwing in the 4th quarter??

One other thing, to answer your question "But if I was voting, and Redlands dominated Cal Lu...how can you send Cal Lu?"-  How do you send Redlands after losing to OXY?  Nobody is going to be happy here.  It is what it is.

WT,

You keep forgetting to mention Redlands win over Whitworth. They are going to be the NWC Champs. I would think that is more worthy than a win over Chapman by Oxy. Oh yeah, Redlands also beat Chapman in a 12-0 shutout on the road.

Tom Brady

You are right, I have failed to mention that but I honestly believe they will look at a h2h meeting before they take the Whitworth game into consideration.  Who knows, maybe I am wrong.  I honestly don't understand why there are a select few on here that expect Redlands to just walk all over CLU.

redlandsfan

Wild Thing,

If you read my post again I said the most important thing is for Redlands to get the V.  I am saying that if Redlands does blow out Cal Lu they should go.  Yea, Oxy beat a "Dam good Chapman team," but Redlands shut out that same team.

I don't know what will happen, but this reminds me of college basketball at the end of the season.  Oxy beat Redlands, but if the dogs win out they are the hottest team in the SCIAC and may leap Oxy because of that.

Tom Brady

I got ya redlandsfan but I really don't think there is a "hottest team" category in the selection process.

redlandsfan

Wild thing,

You and I both know that voters will be influenced by the amount of points Redlands is scoring, the unimpressive ways Oxy is winning, and the fact that Redlands (assuming they beat Cal Lu) has finished the season in dominating fashion! Oh yea...and the victory over Whitworth will help!

Gray Fox

The latest poll is up.

Oxy is 23.  Redlands is 24.  CLU is not mentioned at all.

QuoteYou also failed to consider Redlands' impressive non-conference victory over NAIA powerhouse Haskell Indian Nations University. I know that the Redlands fans haven't mentioned it, because they are trying to forget that it ever happened.

Oxy is ranked #23 and Redlands #24 in the latest D3 poll.

The NCAA regional rankings coming out this week will be interesting . . .

Tenderloin

Whitworth is ranked 20. I guess the polls think that the loss to Redlands was not that big a deal..With a  rookie QB making his first start. Even so Redlands is a very good team and played well that day, especially after getting down early...and on the road

As has been mentioned by others, all Redlands  had to do was beat Oxy. They did not. Now they are left with rooting for little ol' Whittier to do what Redlands could not ....beat Oxy.

I sure would like to see Whittier get another win..but if that opens up the door for Redlands.....I'll have to think about it. LOL

OB- You have been very consistent about OXY's SOS with Menlo and Lewis & Clark. (I always like hearing it!) You are also accurate of course about Haskell. I have never mentioned it and we do sweep that one under the rug.

I'm sure everyone knows Trinity of Texas cancelled the fourth and final year of a four year contract with Redlands. Scheduling national ranked teams for non-conference games has been Coach Maynards mantra for the past 5 years at least.

This years schedule was supposed to be Whitworth and Trinity. When Trinity cancelled, there were very few teams that had a slot for that weekend. Hence Haskell. A week team yes, but better than no game at all.

The only problem in the past few years is that Redlands has not fielded good enough teams to win the games against these ranked teams, putting them in a hole with a couple of losses going into conference. That is why we were so excited about the Whitworth win. It is ironic that this would have been the right team to take a serious shot at Trinity.  Last years game in San Antonio was an embarrassing loss for Redlands.

Anyway, I feel that SCIAC does deserve to get a Pool "C" bid,  because of how strong both OXY and Redlands are.  Even if SCIAC is perceived nationally as being a weak league, that doesn't diminish the fact that both  OXY and Redlands are very strong teams. If both teams win this weekend, I believe one of them will go.

Cal Lu might have some thoughts of their own about that when this weekend gets here.

BTW- Fear the Poet- I hope your son is OK and will be able to play against the tigers. He is a big kid out of pads also.  Very impressive. Good luck!

It's probably far more predicated on what's happened since -- Redlands losing to Oxy and Whitworth beating Linfield.
