Hey, Johnnies fans, before you start busting out the SoCal surfer-dude, quiche/sushi eating, we-all-hang-out-with-Paris-Hilton stereotypes, you should know that Redlands, though picturesque and a nice place to live, is hardly the center of all things steretypical LA.  It's 63 miles and about a two-hour drive (in normal traffic) to the heart of Hollywood.  So, it's about like busting out all the New York stuff on someone from Poughkeepsie.

That said, enjoy a Hamms on me in the ice-fishing shack. ;)

I know it well.  Consider also that things could be worse - UofR could be in Hemet. ;D

A. Clark is one hell of a linebacker. Should have played himself into contention for at least a 2nd team spot.

Saw Clark a couple of times he is a stud !

Hemet :o  Yikes!

57Johnnie-  I loved the piece you wrote for JohnnieFootball.com   That is a very good web site and its pretty cool that all of you have such passion for SJU and shows how much time you have on your hands while living in MN ;D

I have ready "The Sweet Season" 3 times and it gives me visions of SJU every time I read it.  I am going to have to come up there next year for a game, but only if these burgers are still around.

Thanks  +k
The burgers will probably be around as long as Judge Johnny Red is breathing and then some.
BTW - John will probably still be coaching.
Also BTW - I live in western Colorado not MN :D

hmm I've noticed we have some stat guru's on the board here so here's a challenge question for you (don't know if you can even look this up)... Longest game played in division III?... The WC vs Oxy game was defiantly the longest game I've played at 3 hours and 40 minutes....

97 passes between the two teams btw...

How come d3.com couldn't show the poets some love?

Congrats to Redlands on their playoff berth - I am sure they'll represent the SCIAC well.  I am still struggling to understand why my support for the Tigers went unrewarded - but like many on the board I am more than aware of what our new friend Mr. Scurlock is capable of, so I guess I shouldn't be completely surprised  :D  Congrats to the Poets on winning back the shoes.

I'm looking forward to a week of banter with the posting juggernaut that is the St. John's faithful.  I know that the Stiftungsfest (sp?) burgers are legendary, and would love to travel to Collegeville to enjoy one sometime.  But I am a little disappointed in my SoCal brethren that amidst all the smack talk about quiche no one mentioned that you can find this fine burger and  that fine burger only right here under the sunny skies of SoCal (well, maybe a few places in Arizona and Nevada too);D

thanks Scandi, Can't comment on the Tigers other than they still almost pulled it off.  Their performances of just good enough to win every week came up short in the end. With 9 seconds left , I said here they go again, then of course .....deafening screams from the Redlands faithfull.

I hope the Johnnies keep looking ahead to their next round after dismissing Redlands as being soft. I love it when a team like this hangs on reputations of past dominence and underestimate their opponents. That is always a good thing.

I hope they don't forget to tighten up their chinstraps though (who knows, they might think they don't need to snap them at all) because the physical "blue collar" Redlands Bulldogs are planning to continue their tough dominate play right through the "Johnnies" and into the next round.

Thanks for all of the SCIAC support, Redlands won't let you down.

QuoteThe WC vs Oxy game was defiantly the longest game I've played at 3 hours and 40 minutes....
I was so defiant I did the SoCal thing and bid OB adieu at 5:00 left in the game. I knew better from past experience too.
Welcome to the board, 'lock11. Wondering why your ball does not have that tail waggle so many left-handers have. And how did you get away so many times?

OxyBob, during my date-sitting stint Saturday night, the ditched damsel was postulating about the continuing success of the black-on-purple brute of the Great Lakes (mid-West is such an archaic term) so please pass along this tidbit from the OAC board for some more discussion fodder
Quoteconsider the fact that Ohio has 21 NCAA D3 football schools and 34 total NCAA I, II, III colleges to compete with on kids (compared to NY's 17 D3 schools).

QuoteAny Redlands fans who make the trip out (highly recommended!!!) are more than welcome--invited, actually--to join the Stiftungsfestivities pregame tailgate.
Yes, of course, come in Hansel! Come in Gretel! Have some charred bovine flesh before we eat you for Saturday dinner ourselves.
How did the NCAA come up with these brackets? Did I miss Gagliardi announcing his retirement?

QuoteHere are a few arguments that you can win easily:
--Redlands has much more picturesque mountain views than St. John's.
--Redlands has more attractive female students than St. John's.
--Redlands has warmer weather than St. John's.
...don't forget:
--Redlands gets to deal with Title IX and ST. John's skates.

Did someone mention?

the longest game i've ever watched was Poets v Redlands this season. I think it lasted about 14 hours..or so it seemed.  ;)

Concerning the football talent in Southern California....

In Southern California we have only 1 D1AA school (University San Diego) and no D2 football.  Many good players in Southern California if they do not get picked up by a D1 school either play Juco then quit playing or just quit playing after high school. Many have what I call D1itis. If they don't play D1, they just quit playing.

Other important factors are ALL the D3 schools in So Cal and the NW conference are very expensive and academically sound. That thins the herd further. Juco transfers do not seem to be popular with many programs.

Not sure of what the options are for other parts of the country, but that is how it is out West
