Duffman,

Yea Crowley was a great back...not flashy but ran hard...he bailed the Johnnies out a few times with "shuffle" passes when we played them....it would be 3rd and long...we would rush the passer, and he would slip by and pick up big chunks of yards....he was a good player!

Thus concedes "smart" football, i.e. execution and game planning, trumps "street fight" football....

I forgot to bring my copy of The Sweet Season to work today--does anyone want to track down Gagliardi's quote about how if we wanted to show them how tough we were, we'd just sucker punch them during the coin flip?

#1  What the hell is a Roush?
#2  I think Redlands Fan and ECS kind of killed the mood with their pissing match.
#3  I have my response to a few things that have been said on here....

So Redlands is the NWC champs because they beat ONE team from the NWC?  I know what you are saying but a pretty lame thing to say.

Comparing SJU's tradition to Redlands tradition is just plain stupid.  Enough said.

I am going to go ahead and say this first...I am pulling for the SCIAC 100% but I honestly don't see Redlands going up North and picking up the W.  I will however say that I am glad only one SCIAC team made it because Cal Lu would have probably been sent somewhere pretty bad and given the nation a pretty bad taste of the SCIAC.

Go ahead and bash what I am saying, I just think I am being realistic and if UR wins I will eat my words.

Is this board always this dead?  You all must be out driving your Roush's.
Sure not a lot of smack talk on Wed. of playoff week.   :-\

I know that the past is the past, etc., etc., etc., but here's how St. John's has fared in the first round of the NCAA playoffs since the field expanded to 16 teams in the early 1980s:

So that's 14-1, including 14 in a row and all 10 home games.  I understand that what the Johnnies did 2 decades ago isn't going to have any effect on this weekend's game, but it does illustrate how difficult it is to beat the Johnnies in the first round.

You're right TC, that is an impressive record.

Another way you could interpret that data is to say that the NCAA loves the Johnnies (and their huge home crowds) so much they rarely send them on the road.  Heck, you guys don't even have to win your conference to get a home game  ;)

I believe home games are earned based on performance during the regular season.  This isn't the NIT. ;)

It should be noted that the Johnnies were undefeated heading into the playoffs in 7 of those seasons but only got two #1 seeds.  I find it hard to believe that the NCAA loved them only enough to ensure they'd be at home for the first game or two.  I think it was likely the product of good teams playing difficult schedules and playing them well.

How does Redlands look on the injury front?  St. John's lost starting middle linebacker Ryan Wimmer in the St. Thomas game two weeks ago to a dislocated elbow, but he's expected back and (close to) fully recovered for this weekend.

TMerton-

+k for the NIT reference - I got a chuckle out of that one.  I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows for sure how playoff ticket revenue is split up between the institutions and the NCAA.

We all know the Johnnies have a history of success - and that success should be rewarded.  Down here in SoCal we've learned that in order to get a home game you have to set the world on fire in going undefeated and hope the NWC gets two teams in so the NCAA is willing to send someone south.  ;D

Yeah La Verne's included in the play-off talk! When the commitee saw that score, they didn't bother to give us a bid in 95 after a 9-0 record. I heard it was freezing in Minnesota that day...  Whats the forecast for this Saturday?

PS.. CarlosRossiLep, did you see those guys get ejected from the game this past saturday? So much for having school spirit I guess... They were only cheering. I think that security officer must have had a chip on his shoulder...
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

I'm sure reading alot about Redlands being the UNDERDOG...and St. JOHNS being the favorite...Let's look at this from a historical perspective:

David defeats Goliath

The Greeks, badly outnumbered, kick the Persians butts

Hannibal beats the Romans

Scottish Robert the Bruce, soundly defeats English King Edward II

(Super Bowl III)  The Jets beat the heavily favored Colts

1980 Olympics  US defeats a far superior Soviet Union

2004 Red Sox win the World Series in 4 straight against the Yankee's

2007  Applachian State beats Michigan

and also in 2007 the Redlands Bulldogs will beat the SJU Johnnies

I'm so happy SJU is favored and I'm reading all this trashtalk...It will make the win that much sweeter.

Hey redlandsfan.  I'll see you in Collegeville proudly wearing my redlands shirt and trying to get one of those famous burgers from a Johnnies tailgate party.

That's a reference to a d3football.com poster from Monmouth who was takling smack because he owned a Roush Mustang.  Then we bombed his team 62-3 ;D

Not a pissing match. Rather personal attack. I presume the premise of this board is to discuss football instead of instigating personal attacks and engaging in slander. This individual decided to approach it in a rather juvenile manner after taking comments way too personally. Banter is fine, we jokingly insult each other on a regular basis. Bob, Tooth, et al regularly engage in this. However, if we as a board did not stand for someone pimping out their son a year ago, there is no reason to find full-fledged insinuations about character to be acceptable either. It lacked class, tact and character and was simply unncessary and poorly reflects the caliber of most UoR fans.
While my response was not perfect, it was necessary.
However, I won't stoop to the immature tauntings of another and prefer to stay on topic.

Now, back to more important things... like football.

Note: Red Sox win the 2004 WS in 4 straight against St Louis... the 4 straight against the Yankees were in the ALCS after being down 0-3. Makes it the underdog story, yes. But incorrect facts.

62-3 isn't a bad score.... been on the losing end of a 70+ - 0. Ouch.. pride.

Which does remind me - injury report for the weekend? Who's in and who's out?
