I'm sure reading alot about Redlands being the UNDERDOG...and St. JOHNS being the favorite...Let's look at this from a historical perspective:

David defeats Goliath

The Greeks, badly outnumbered, kick the Persians butts

Hannibal beats the Romans

Scottish Robert the Bruce, soundly defeats English King Edward II

(Super Bowl III)  The Jets beat the heavily favored Colts

1980 Olympics  US defeats a far superior Soviet Union

2004 Red Sox win the World Series in 4 straight against the Yankee's

2007  Applachian State beats Michigan

and also in 2007 the Redlands Bulldogs will beat the SJU Johnnies

I'm so happy SJU is favored and I'm reading all this trashtalk...It will make the win that much sweeter.

Hey redlandsfan.  I'll see you in Collegeville proudly wearing my redlands shirt and trying to get one of those famous burgers from a Johnnies tailgate party.

Another way you could interpret that data is to say that the NCAA loves the Johnnies (and their huge home crowds) so much they rarely send them on the road.  Heck, you guys don't even have to win your conference to get a home game  ;)

I believe home games are earned based on performance during the regular season.  This isn't the NIT. ;)

Exactly, St John's is the MIAC conference runner up while Redlands is the SCIAC Champ. The Johnnies should be making the trip West. Your attendance and gate receipts I'm sure played a big deal in giving St. John's a home game.

Which does remind me - injury report for the weekend? Who's in and who's out?

I think Redlands is injury free. I have not heard any news of any injured starters.

Touchdown Tommy

Which of you Redlands posters are making the trip to Collegeville?  Taking the Friday night red eye from LAX???  Make sure to stayed tuned at JohnnieFootball.com for more SJU vs. Redlands coverage.  Also, the Johnnies Tailgate Party will begin around 8am.  Please don't be shy, cause we sure aren't.  Stop by, introduce yourself, have a beer or 10, eat the Polish from Chicago or the famous Stiftungsfest burger, and you will not be disappointed win or loss at 3pm.

I'm going to make the trip.  Which party is THE tailgate to attend.  I guess there are a bunch.  What about the night before.  Too bad there isn't a REDLANDS Rally.

Let's see, it might have something to do with the fact that SJU is ranked 8th and their loss is to the 9th ranked team while Redlands is ranked 19th and has a loss to an unranked team.

There are some smaller ones, but we're the big one.  There's a parking lot behind the scoreboard.  Looks for us there.  There will be music, a banner, and lots of food.

Hey Duff,

That unranked team has a name, OCCidential...they are a very tuff and talented team.

About time everyone woke up out there...  Let's touch on a few things:

We all know the Johnnies have a history of success - and that success should be rewarded.  Down here in SoCal we've learned that in order to get a home game you have to set the world on fire in going undefeated and hope the NWC gets two teams in so the NCAA is willing to send someone south.  ;D

I mentioned this to someone in a PM--the SCIAC is certainly growing in stature since the beginning of the decade, based in large part on Occidental winning some playoff games a couple years ago.  If Redlands had been undefeated this year, I don't see why they wouldn't have gotten a home game (especially with UW-Whitewater being moved).  Still, conference championship or not, the Johnnies only regular season loss was to the #2 seed in the bracket while the Bulldogs lost to a non-playoff team--I think the game being in Collegeville is the right call.

Whats the forecast for this Saturday?

The forecast is calling for a high of 39 on Saturday with little chance of precip and light winds, another beautiful day in Collegeville--weather shouldn't be a factor.  Although it was snowing lightly earlier today, there hasn't been any accumulation yet this year.

You forgot about St. John's 24, Mount Union 6 in the 2003 Stagg Bowl.

Also, you hear about it every damn time man bites dog, but no one cares when dog bites man.  (Although for this to make sense, the Bulldogs=man and the Johnnies=dog, which doesn't really make sense.  My head hurts.)

#1  What the hell is a Roush?

That's a reference to a d3football.com poster from Monmouth who was takling smack because he owned a Roush Mustang.  Then we bombed his team 62-3 ;D

It was a come-from-behind 62-3 win, too.  Those little Monmouths were so fired up after that FG.

Here's the quote from The Sweet Season:

Fighting, to Gagliardi, is idiotic and inexcusable.  "We don't think it shows how tough you are" he says.  "We think it shows you're dumb as hell, and don't know the rules.  If we wanted to show the other team how tough we were, we'd sucker-punch 'em coming out of the dressing room.  We'd slug em while the coin is in the air."

Also, touching on an earlier point about time spent on the practice field, according to Frank Rajokaowiekedjaie, the Johnnie beat writer at the St. Cloud Times, the Johnnies were off the practice field at dark on Tuesday, which would be about 5:20 PM.  They couldn't have practiced for more than an hour.

He said based on regular season results, not rankings. One is a conference champion while the other is a runner up. Just admit you have been spoiled by home field advantage 10/14 years.

Both teams are 9-1, the Johnnies lost to the tougher opponent, and it is reasonable to believe that the Johnnies are still ahead of the Bulldogs in the West Regional Rankings.  6-4 Olivet and 7-3 Concordia also won their conferences--should they be seeded higher than the Johnnies?

Did I need to say that this isn't the CIF either?  Being a conference champ gets you a first round home game in high school but it doesn't mean you get one here.

Coming to CA wouldn't be bad in my book (I was rooting for the SCIAC champ last year as I would definitely have liked to see SJU coming to Eagle Rock than going to Spokane) but an 8-1 SCIAC co-champ definitely can't whine about not getting a home game over a 9-1 top 10 team that lost by 3 to another top 10 team.
