And in view of the Kevin Hart story, I am canceling my news conference to announce the release of my new book which chronicles all of my romantic trysts with Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, and many, many others.

Priceless. Priceless, both of you!

FTP, does Pete C. know? ;)

Next thing you know, Redlands will be announcing a ceremony to congratulate the football team for winning the 2008 NCAA DIII National Championship.... oh and that one QB for Redlands that we all know and love... I heard it through the grapevine that he's declaring for the draft.... I heard it in a chatroom somewhere.

coco

I'd like to announce that I will be performing on American Idol this season, and Dancing with the Stars the next time it starts up.

And look for me on Survivor tonight!

Did you remember to run that post by your attorney - nothing prosecutable? ;)

I think that guy who said he was an attorney lied to me, along with the woman who said she was Jeff Probst.

Yup, this poor young buck needs to quit his football career and start applying for the Redlands sports reporter job.

What a shame, what a shame. Just sad.

RENO, Nev. -- A northern Nevada prep football player who had claimed he was duped into believing he was recruited to play at a Pac-10 school admitted Wednesday he made up the story.
Kevin Hart, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman for Fernley High School, offered a broad apology in a statement he issued through the Lyon County School District. Hart said he had wanted to play football at a Division I school "more than anything."

"When I realized that wasn't going to happen, I made up what I wanted to be reality. I am sorry for disappointing and embarrassing my family, coaches, Fernley High School, the involved universities and reporters covering the story," Hart said.

Lyon County sheriff's detectives had been unable to corroborate Hart's claims that he had been duped by a man he paid to help promote him to college football programs.

Lt. Rob Hall said Hart had not informed detectives of his confession, and they would continue to investigate to see if Hart had broken any laws, such as filing a false police report.

Hart first spoke with deputies Saturday, a day after he announced at a school assembly and a news conference that he would sign with the University of California, Berkeley.

At the announcement ceremony, Hart, with Fernley coach Mark Hodges at his side, said he talked with Cal head coach Jeff Tedford many times, and that "personal experience" led to his decision to choose the Golden Bears over Oregon, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

But the announcement was questioned almost immediately, and on Monday officials with California and the University of Oregon said Hart was never recruited.

Hall said Hart had claimed that the alleged promoter he paid was named Kevin Riley, and that he believed he was from Las Vegas. Hart, however, was "unable to provide any phone numbers, addresses," or other contact information for the purported recruiter, Hall said.

"Initially, we thought if this was in fact a hoax or something Kevin came up with, maybe he was trying to put his name out there and create some interest," Hall said.

"Or maybe he just thought it was going to be and when it didn't happen, rumors started and it just got bigger and bigger and he didn't know what to do. That's why we want to sit down with Kevin and talk with him to get his perspective about what happened, where did it start, when did it start," he said.

Hall said detectives will forward their investigation to the district attorney's office to decide whether prosecution was warranted.

Tedford said Wednesday he had never talked to Hart and the Golden Bears never recruited him.

"It was total news to me, and it's unfortunate that that whole situation is what it is," Tedford said.

"I've talked to other coaches who have had people saying they've committed to their programs who they're not even recruiting, and it just seems like this thing is getting so big and egos are getting so involved ... people want to have an identity or whatever. To get to that magnitude that I read about is really kind of unfortunate," he said.

Oregon coach Mike Bellotti also said Wednesday the Ducks did not recruit Hart, and that he had been contacted by law enforcement authorities.

"Whatever happens, it's a shame," Bellotti said.

On Tuesday, school district administrators said an internal investigation showed that none of the universities once thought to have pursued Hart -- including Nevada, Washington and Oklahoma State -- had contacted Hart.

Superintendent Nat Lommori and Assistant Superintendent Teri White, in issuing the statement the day before recruits across the country sign letters of intent to play for college programs, said they wanted to relieve concerns prospective recruits to those schools might have because of the Hart matter.

The answer would be no, he cannot play, at least at that level. In what I have read in the last couple days, he, as he said was "desperate" to play D1 ball. He attended camps at Oregon and had talked with coaches at Nevada. The determination was made that he was not recruitable (is that a word). I presume this also meant as a walk-on. I guess after this all erupted, he spoke with Nevada about walking-on, but they suggested that because of this stunt he pulled, it would cause more harm than good. Their coaching staff suggested JC.

My analysis of all this is that this kid either has two choices
1) Get serious about school, go to a JC and either go DIII or I-AA (or whatever the f*ck they call themselves now, maybe non-scholarship I-AA).
2) Get serious about football, go to a JC, sellout his soul, and attempt to make it as a walk-on.

Because of this whole thing, I would be very leary bringing this kid into my program. I would give him 2 years inthe JC ranks before I really made a determination as to whether or not I would bring him onboard.

I can understand how this poor kid got carried away. In HS, I recruited myself. While my coach was a good guy, he still played the HS politics game and only helped a couple of kids. I made my list of schools, and then started talking to the coaches. Made my own films, etc. Yes, after initiating contact with a non-scholarship I-AA, they started to recruit me. (Ironically, their coach went DIII after a couple of years and I wound up playing against him and we had a nice long post-game chat.) I made my decision based on an academic scholarship (had to decided between CMC and another school) and I selected a school in the midwest. After a less-than-satisfactory first year and the football program in limbo, I started on the transfer process. I came back to my original list and found CMC as the best option. I applied and was accepted. Best decision I have made, to-date. So I can understand where this poor kid is coming from - I always wanted to run out to the roar of a crowd. But, I realized that (sans juice) I would be lucky to be on the travel squad at an Ivy and perhaps get a few special teams plays if my body really developed. It is just sad that this kid was sucked up into his own little world.. and that no one -teammates, parents or coaches did anything to pull him out.

Last points being the most important-- where was the adult leadership in all of this ? God knows as young adults we make/made mistakes, myself more than a few back in the day..

Stealth,
After a little thought, I can see how his parents and coach didn't know or understand.. (well parents more than coach). We are educated fans and ex-players. We know how the system works from our own experience and from continuing to watch and follow our respective institutions. But, I can see how people, in this case, that his parents wouldn't understand. Additionally, now-a-days, parents are not very involved in their children's lives, so if this was the case with him, they could have just patted him on the back without paying attention and just said "good job."
Regardless, someone should have known better....
Anyways, onto a new topic soon.
Spring practice to start in a month or so.

This has nothing to do with current discussions - however, I love watching the clip in Gig HC's posts. That is a straight up vicious hit and I love it. There is nothing better than just laying a person out.

unfortunately, in my experiences, alot of parents have no idea what their kids are doing.

In this day with so much going on and so many distractions with internet, my space and crap like that..it is more important than ever to keep an eye on their actions.

I'm just glad nobody keeps an eye on my D3 board actions..:)  My boss might fire me..never mind, I am the boss. :)  No wonder my business sucks.

And then we also have the rare situation where the kids need to keep an eye on what their parents are doing, you know, like:
