Eddie Murphy is my uncle so watch what you say and go wash up.

Just for the purposes of clarification, I was not comparing you to Eddie Murphy.  I did not mean to disparage Eddie Murphy at all.  I was comparing you to the character he was playing - the little kid with the ice cream cone.

Besides, thanks to your response my view is now evolving.  Now I perceive of you more like Coach Roy Turner:

glad your not the headcoach. Some game time speech that would make.  ;D Go go out and lose fellas it's alright this is the NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB, USC, UCLA, etc.  and we don't care

Now that's not really what I said, is it?  I love competition.  I love to win.  I love it when my favorite teams win.  But thinking that the only worthwhile reason to participate in sports is the pursuit of a national championship flies in the face of reality.  There are very successful programs at every level (i.e. Gonzaga Basketball) that have rabid fan support and almost zero expectation of actually winning a national championship.  Do they want to compete for one?  Yes.  Do they actually measure their success on this basis?  No.

Your clear as mud. My uncle Eddie said he met you once and has video to prove it.  :o

Like I said some motivational speaker you would be.  ::) Using your logic then we don't need 32 team NCAA final fields or for that matter any playoffs at any pro levels.  I am sure that the New Jersey Giants would argue your point as the thrill of having no chance to beat the Patriots must have been something special. Besides I took the points in Vegas for a quick 5k. #1 is still #1.

stealth....You have missed the point entirely.  Everyone wants to win a national championship.  Some schools have a more realistic chance than others.  Every player wants to win a national championship, but from a practical standpoint most realize it will never happen.  So, according to your logic, those players shouldn't play at all.  You miss the point of playing because you love to play, even if you dont have a Colorado College chance in hell of winning a national championship.

I don't think anyone is inferring that there is anything wrong in wanting to play for, or playing for a national championship.

To take your logic further, a kid or a team should not be permitted to play if they are not considered good enough to compete for a national championship.  That is stupid.

Ever hear the expression...."poor winner"?   In your case we might add to the phrase....poor whinner.

+k for your take on this snoop.

Does anyone have further insight into how spring ball is shaping up around any or all SCIAC schools. I know that La Verne's staff has their players working out in their weight room and condition is just around the corner (by that i mean the whole running routine. Don't we all miss those drills. )

FTP, does L.R. have to wait until track is over to start all of the football related workouts or is he able to work with the team?

Aw, Oxy isn't playing Lewis & Clark? I'm going to miss the Pioneers. Oxy is 8-0 against Colorado College.

Grey Fox questioned me about whether Oxy had only played Colorado College 8 times. I was wrong. Oxy is 11-0 all-time against CC.

OxyBob
The eight games have all been recent. This looks like the start of at least a home and home series.

Lewis and Clark has played Oxy seven times in a row.  They owe Oxy a trip to LA.  Will it be next year and will Oxy drop Menlo to complete a H&H pair?

To funny but I think that was Oxy fans after another early exit in the playoffs or another RFB beat down. #1 is still #1.
For all the SCIAC poster children for hate mogering and snobbery the Stealths are taking a little vacation to tour some of our great nations baseball parks for thier home openers. Where we can't wait to hear the coaches give thier "well we have no chance to win so lets just make some money " speechs. Bye Bye for a couple of weeks.

by the way, what is the reason for Chapman not being part of the sciac? They play everyone anyway.  I'm sure Bob has an answer for me.  Thanks
FTP,
I remembered a conversation I had in December 2006 that I had sent in a private message in case this subject came up again.

I had a long talk with the Chapman basketball assistant coach.  I asked him what he knew about Chapman and the SCIAC relationship. The coach has been at Chapman eleven years and is a friend of Coach Newhall at Oxy.

He said that when Chapman first tried to get into the SCIAC, they were rejected because the SCIAC felt that the recent addition of La Verne and CLU had lowered the academic level.  They gave Chapman a list of qualifications that they were to meet before they could join.  He says they have now met those, and they feel they are now better than half the SCIAC schools.  Now the SCIAC is using the excuse of not wanting a nine team league.

He went on to say that they have offered Chapman a membership for football.  The reason for that is as an insurance policy to having seven teams.  The reason for that is that Pomona may drop out.  Whether to just drop football or to drop out altogether was not clear to me.  He thought that Pomona dropping out altogether will never happen.  I would certainly agree to that.  The Chapman AD rejected the football only offer and wants complete membership.

The next day I talked to a Chapman parent who pointed out that Chapman is twice as big as most SCIAC schools.

I hope this helps.

Well, I just clicked on his name and looked at his e-mail address. Not hard.

When I clicked to the online profile, it was all private and did not include that information.

La Verne has been part of the SCIAC going back to at least 1973.

Have a great trip!  According to your argument there should be plenty of available seats in places with great ballparks like San Francisco, Chicago (the North Side, that is), San Diego, Houston, and Cleveland.  After all, not a single one of those teams has won a World Series in more than forty years.  Those fans must be staying home in droves. :D

I hope by the time Stealth gets back he'll have learned the proper protocol in using the quote function AND then follow it with a response.

I have to say that we (Linfield fans) were pretty hard to take after 2004 but at least I can say our QB never came on PP to run smack and make himself look like an a**.  That had to be a first.

Wow!

UWW9champ has only one post and no negative karma as of 5:50 PM PDT. Amazing.

That post was one of the most bizarre posts I've seen out West since PC covered three football games in one day and then banished me for ten days.

Oops . . . didn't think about that . . .

So . . . it really is Danny Jones . . . too bad, I had a much better impression of him beforehand.  Oh well, at least I still have my faith in former Oxy student Barack Obama . . . how's that for a non sequitur?
