Looking at the schedule, anything worse than 4-5 would be embarassing. I know I know, the goal is 1) Win the Peace Pipe 2) Conf Championship and 3) 9-0 record. However, there is no reason 4-5/5-4 isn't the bare minimum...

Side bar, in my humble opinion, there is undue emphasis placed onto the Peace Pipe. I understand the importance of winning, especially when your rival is less than 100 feet away at times; when you seem them every day; and when you have to sit through a class with the (insert list of derogatory comments) backup QB for Pomona who beat you when he only got the start because he was a senior... (embarassing to say the very least).  But, the emphasis as to the whole season is a failure if you lose to Pomona? Oh come on. That destroys the understanding of a season and can kill a season. If your rivalry game should happen to fall in the middle of a season.. what happens if you should lose? Where is the confidence? If Oxy was to go 8-1 and make it to say the quarterfinals or further, but that one loss was to the Poets (please no one say "how would this happen", just go with it), would that season be a failure? Oh heck no. That is the problem. I understand the importance of the Pipe.. to bring it home this year was awesome. However, it cannot always be the defining moment of a season. Yes, there are times when it will be THE moment, but it should never ALWAYS be the moment. That is at least MY opinion on the matter.


Sad to hear Andy was waived. Maybe someone else will pick him up.

According to OurSports Central, Andy Collins was waived by the LA Avengers:

The Avengers traded defensive back Eddie Canonico to Utah for future considerations. Arnold Parker will replace him on the roster. LA also waived linebackers Andy Collins and Robert Quiroga and activated Ryan Riddle from injured reserve.

Controversy in last night's mixed martial arts bouts held at Table Mountain Casino in Friant, California. In the main event, Hawaii's Po'ai Suganuma dropped University of Redlands football coach and former undefeated MMA heavyweight Jared Hamman with an overhand right and a knee to the head, forcing the referee to halt the action at just 15 seconds of the first round, as reported in 411mania.com:

But fans and viewers were left with a sour taste after an eagerly anticipated main event was stopped – most agreed, prematurely – by the referee 15 seconds after it began.

Once-beaten Po'ai Suganuma (9-1), of Hilo, Hawaii, was declared the winner over previously undefeated Jared Hamman (10-1) of San Bernardino, Calif., in a fight most felt should have been allowed to continue at least for a few more seconds.

Suganuma had rocked Hamman with a right hand, and then the Hawaiian dropped him with a beautiful right knee to the face. But a moment before he could pounce and land what potentially might have been the finishing blow, or blows, he was pulled off by the referee and declared a TKO winner.

"No one likes to win in controversial fashion,'' Suganuma said. "I thought I had him dazed but I don't think he was completely out. I was a little surprised the ref did what he did but only because I wanted to hit him again. If he wants to fight again, that's fine with me. Let's do it.''

The generally gentleman-like Hamman, a college football coach, was lived [sic] afterward. "I am so mad right know,'' he said. "I don't know what happened or why it was stopped. I wanted to keep fighting. I felt I could keep fighting. I don't want to make excuses. I absolutely want a rematch.''

A return match will definitely be made, EliteXC Live Events Vice President Jared Shaw promised. "You can bet there will be a rematch in the near future," he said. "No one is more concerned for a fighter's safety than we are, but this fight was just stopped too soon."

To my knowledge, Hamman is not related to Danny Ragsdale.

Maybe we SCIAC posters could have our own series of bouts à la Celebrity Death Match.
