Hahaha. Not even close, old man. I just turned 24. The only sign of old age that i'm showing is the white hair that i've been growing after the past 4 years of working with high school kids. (oh wait, did i just say that... I guess i am getting older. Haha.)

Gee Oxy's endowment must be doing well for them to be handing out athletic scholarships.

I hope the a) he got an academic scholarship, and that it is not b) local newspaper reporters are dumb as dumb can be.

The next time this happens, I swear I am going to call up the paper and ask for the reporter and insult him for his lack of intelligence. He's probably been smoking too much herb.

Just for grins National Sports Rankings has a game simulation site up and running, Just played around with it and it works great. Teams back to 03. Run Oxy vs. anybody both home and away from 03-07. Pretty cool.

Ankeny enjoying second time around

University of La Verne football coach Andy Ankeny admits he still felt a little out of place this time last year. He had just moved from Texas to take over the Leopard football program and he had a lot to do in a short time.

Being appointed in May didn't lend itself to luring top-notch recruits or making inroads to the local community in time to help the 2007 season. So Ankeny feels better having a year under his belt.

"There is so much to do just in getting to know the area and the schools," he said. "It's amazing what a difference a year makes."

The Leopards are coming off a 1-8 campaign. Despite that Ankeny is optimistic, citing the progress his team made from start to finish in 2007.

The Leopards had 55 players to start last season but ended with 47. Ankeny expects to have around 80 when conditioning drills get underway in August.

Redlands Ranked

The University of Redlands football team is No. 22 in the USA Today Sports Weekly Preseason Division III poll.

Redlands is the only team from the SCIAC to be included on the poll. The Bulldogs are also one of just two teams from the western United States recognized, the other being Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas).

No worries, the "President's Scholarship" (not "presidential") as an award based on academic qualifications given to those among the top tier students.  There are four levels of scholarships, if I remember correctly, and this is the second most generous available to students as part of their overall financial aid package.

Athletic ability has no bearing whatsoever . . . but you knew that.
