NYU - too expensive to do anything seriously besides basketball in NYC. Campus is too spread out and student body is enormous. No one goes to NYU for sports.. period.

Mudd - surprisingly, sports are not really downplayed at Mudd. The Mudders were (and still are) some of the most serious club/intramurals players they are. But the reality of taking 6-7 classes at a minimum each semester, not including labs results in little to no time for sports. What Mudders do play, are usually very good. But, they are usually going on 3-4 hours of sleep a night. We had one Mudder who played WR and baseball, so for those 4-5 weeks in the spring of practice, he was getting 2-3 hours a sleep/night if at all.
What Mudders do play are encouraged and supported by the faculty.... if the faculty know what basketball or baseball or lacrosse are.....

ECS, ever been to a basketball game at NYU?  The Coles Center gets nuts.  They also have pretty good mens and womens soccer teams, mens and womens volleyball teams and a decent wrestling team.  Most people don't go to D-III schools for sports, but they take the opportunity to  continue to play for a few more years.  There are just as many NYU students that probably don't realize they have a very good music program.

Personally, I'll take USD, they have that whole secretly naughty catholic school girl complex.

Ah memories . . . my senior year we played USD at SD . . . we won, 21-13, stayed late for a party w/ some USD cheerleaders . . . oh my . . .  ;)

Shhh...don't let Sabertooth know. He feels bad enough already letting a perfectly good board stay dry docked for so long.

I was going to say the Soviet Union, but DMV is good too.

I will be interested to see where CMC falls in politically active after the 08 election.

I wonder how (if) coaches use these ranking to their advantage in recruiting. I would definitely be using the rankings to my advantage. Get a kid from Phillips Andover or Exeter to want to come on out to the warm weather with attractive girls (ok, maybe at the beach instead of school). Each little advantage is worth exploiting.

How about a school where local merchants who do not bother to card because most of the underclass is under 21, aren't they?

Nothing wrong with free booze.

I'd beg to differ on the food though. Being able to eat at all 5Cs improves things, but in honesty, it is impossible to rank college food in terms of being good, the best you can do is say School A is less bad than School B. To imply good food at a college is just plain wrong.

Professors Get Low Marks -- No. 3

is this b/c the students think they are smarter than the faculty?

on an unrelated note - i am looking fwd to seeing a few more SCIAC games this fall.  took my son to his first (live) football game Redlands vs. CLU last season and we both enjoyed it a lot.

Off to Waikiki next Tuesday.  Hope to be able to find my feet and catch a few when I'm not boogie boarding at the Wall with my 9 year old.

When did you get out of college?  I know the food available in the Oxy student union is night and day improved over what we saw in the 70s.
