If I hadn't attended a game at Dragons Stadium, I might have thought there was something fishy about this story, but apparently Texas high school football fans are going soft.  I'm glad California fans still stick with hot dogs and hamburger. 8)

How are they getting the rice and fish there ? Over the wall, in the packs of the illegals or straight out of the Rio ?  Cat fish sushi ? ;) :D ;D  Blasphemy. I'll take a BBQ tri tip or ribs plate any day.

Ypsi,
We still can hope for a Pomona vs Amherst football final in Salem.   :)
Here is another reason these great rivals should meet.

From this weeks Newsweek article on the top twelve college rivalries.

QuoteAbout 100 students in 2008 were admitted to both Amherst and Pomona, a competition likely to continue. Amherst changed all of its student loans to grants in July 2007 and Pomona did the same five months later. Each has small classes, with student-faculty ratios of about 8 to 1. Both are going after what Amherst spokeswoman Carolina Hanna calls "the same high-achieving, academically promising applicants regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds."

general question to the socal folks on the sciac board:

i am considering playing hooky on thursday to go to the noon dodgers-rockies game.

what is the best plan?

a) buy tix b/f the game?
b) just get to chavez and either buy tix at the gate/box office and sit wherever i can or
c) go the scalper day of game route?

thx for the time and consideration.

Funny that you ask that question. I'll be skipping work this thursday to catch the Blue Crew destroy the Rockies.

Your best plan:
a) by the tickets before the game (heck, i'll give you a secret, look on the dodgers website for special deals on tickets for thursday afternoon.
b) this will save you time. Heck, if you can, come by the "think blue" sign out in the parking lot where i'll be tailgating and drinking a few cold ones before the day's event.
c) and finally, never go to a scalper in California. You don't want to pay the price for buying those nose bleed seats.

Hope that helps.

your best course of Action would be to go to the Angels game. :)  and give yourself a couple hours after the game to get out of Chavez Latrine.

BE is right.  It'll save you some time buying the tickets ahead of time and printing them out.  You won't have trouble getting tickets though for a nooner, so if you end up going to the box office you won't have to get there way ahead of time.

I would bring plenty of sunscreen if you plan on sitting in the pavillion though, some of those games can turn into real scorchers in the outfield.

Yes, yes the streaking Angels who are 2-2 in the last week, while the Dodgers are in the midst of a monsterous series of 29 games in 30 days (of which they are 6-1 in the last week).

And for fun, an older article about the great state of the renovated Angels ballpark.  Link.
QuoteThe Los Angeles Angels of Your Ad Here
...after which I sat back to take in the local flavor of between-inning scoreboard entertainment. "What will it be?" I wondered. "Wacky bloopers? The batting helmet shell game? Pick the Horribly Overplayed 'Stadium Favorite' That Will Be Blared Over the P.A. Next Inning?"

"Hey, that looks kinda like...a crummy commercial?! Son of a bitch!"

And it was.

That's right, apparently not content to cover every square centimeter of the outfield wall with advertising, the Angels have seen fit to cover the Jumbotron*, too. And while I do appreciate being made aware of the incredible convenience and friendly spirit that are in abundance at my local Wells Fargo branch, I can't help but feel that when I shell out twelve bucks for a seat in the mesosphere, I shouldn't have to deal with TV ads that I can get at home for free. Ads that, in fact, I specifically came to the stadium to get the hell away from.

I'll admit to not being a terribly well-traveled fan, so it's possible that this sort of thing is par for the course at a lot of stadiums these days. Certainly the Angels' faithful around me didn't seem fazed in the slightest by the crass commercialism. But I'd never had to deal with between-innings commercials before and, frankly, it kind of soured the whole experience for me.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

you know its bad for the Dog fans when they are clinging to the Angels 2-2 "slump"

I can feel the "Dodger tradition" argument coming. ;)  you know that tradition of one playoff win since 1988. and don't forget the "you have a Dodger as a manager" argument.

As far as the stadium..got to make money to pay the players. We didn't have the fortune to get Manny for free as he makes his way to New York next year.

Your just jealous becuase we don't need armed guards to go to Angel Stadium.

I will have to admit, once Manny got to the minors..his bat heated up. Enjoy it while you have him.

A freeway series would be kind of cool. I think we could all agree that sticking it to the east coast would be nice. :)
