It's your ability to immediately access and post information about who played QB for Linfield in the late quarters of a game against Lewis & Clark in 2006 that boggles the mind . . . plus I think you were more right in noting that it was ECS who raised the "run-up" stuff . . . we all know that the Linfield football program is like Jesus, Mohammed and Buddha all rolled up into a delicious sandwich of perfection . . . hmmmm . . . sandwich . . . on the other hand, not much else going on around here to get worked up over  . . . so forget what I said . . . have at it!

Some of my impressions after my second week of watching Oxy football:

First, Menlo is a much better team than their record indicates.  The difference in the game was that the Tigers executed more big plays in the second half (both on offense and defense) than the Oaks.

Now with my impressions.  The strength of Oxy's offense is its balance, versatility and demonstrated ability to score by the big play from anywhere on the field.  A big mobile quarterback with a strong arm, a steady running game, and a mix of both short and deep threats at receiver all combine into what I sense is a confidence that they can score with anybody.

I think this confidence in the offense directly translates into the team's defensive philosophy which seems to be "get the ball back to the offense as soon as possible."  That means playing a high risk/high reward pressure defense that can get a quick stop, but is also susceptible to giving up the big play.  Either way, the ball is going back to the offense.

OF,

All excellent points . . . but I still think that the Tiger secondary needs to step it up if the Tigers want to take SCIAC.

Hey OB, I wasn't trying to get in a pissing match with you. I agree with you re: Pomona, it's hard to not score big against the Pios. Menlo scored 49 on them last year. I guess I took I took exception to the swipe at MonroviaCat. I'm all done now.

FTP, DAW and ECS are going to the Whittier - Menlo game. Anyone else? I hope to meet up with you.

For the Menlo game, do we all get a little button that identifies us as part of the LR fan club??
I'll have to do my laundry so I have some fresh STAG gear.

Cal Lutheran has still never recovered from Christian Okoye running over them for 250 yards in one game.

Well after reading several of your responses, I've come to realize I was wrong.

I thought it was Azusa Pacific that ran from the SCIAC teams, but by what is being said on here, it was the SCIAC teams that ran.

I don't buy the argument that those regional games are good for alumni and "parents travel well."  Football, and any collegiate sport, exists first and foremost for the students and faculty/staff in order to create and enhance community on campus, then the parents and alumni matter after that.  It doesn't do the students and faculty/staff any good for a small college to blow a significant amount of $$$ so that 55 guys can travel out of the area to play a football game where there are ample opponents in the area.  That's just poor fiscal responsibility.

I also don't buy the argument from OxyBob that it helps recruiting.  Oxy has one Oregon player on the team, and if I read you right, Oxy has never been to Washington but has 9 appleheads on their team.  Oxy isn't getting the bang for its buck, or your logic is flawed.  Or maybe both.

Finally, since when was the SCIAC so interested in the postseason that it's dropping serious bank to fly all over and play patsies.  What is the SCIAC's collective postseason record in football?  Not good.  Might as well stay in Southern California so the students, faculty/staff and even the president can attend the games.

I've come to the conclusion that SCIAC football coaches have an incestious relationship, and maybe the ADs and presidents are all in on it too.  It's too bad. It only hurts the SCIAC and enhances everyone's opinion in the DIII world that the SCIAC is a poor athletic conference.  To steal a line from someone on here, I don't know why SCIAC schools have football.

"Starters done after the first quarter." Yeah, that's why starting QB Trevor Scharer was still in there in the 3rd quarter throwing TD passes against L&C in 2006.

Dude,

You are in serious need of some help . . . the first step is admit that you have a problem . . .

"Hi, my name is OB . . . and I'm a Div.III Sportstriviainternetboardsoholic"
;) ;D

Didn't you get the Memo Tooth, OB is the "Architect" of the machine world. (As seen in the most Recent Matrix Reloaded movie.... oh wait you're too old to even have watched a movie like this) Ask him anything or state anything on this board and OB will point it out.

As for this Whole why doesn't the SCIAC schedule team X,Y Or Z (to help the newbie Calson understand this), get over it dude. We are in the process of experiencing the 2008 season. Lets worry about the games that have been laid out for this season and hope that our teams can make it far this season. Save the whole schedule conflict for the silence of the offseason. We got games to win, stories of defeat to hear and fans who would rather want to read how there teams did this past saturday. 8)

Speaking of, before you point out that Oxy has never been to the Apple state, please do some research first in learning that Oxy has played UPS as of recently in Tacoma, Wash or even down here. (I should know because I was on that field with my teammates in Tacoma in 03' as saw alumni and yes even recruits. Don't even get me going about Oregon, most of my teammates and non-athlete friends from the 00-04 season where from Oregon.
Do your Homework Newbie. Welcome to the board by the Way ;D

OB, I attended the last 2 Linfield - L&C games. Starters done after the first quarter. All 100+ kids play. Heck, last year Linfiled had a penalty for having two kids on the field at the same time with the same number.

This is why OB was pulling out 2006. It was proffered as evidence of something it isn't.

In the 2006 game, from the box score, Linfield played 82, not "all 100+ kids." Also, at least 15 of the 22 starters played in the game after the first quarter -- Kaluza, Vierra, Banker, O'Neil, Horning, Scharer, Summers, Greenberg, Ketker, Rombach, Rogers, Tawata, Mehl, Bean, and Woods.

In the 2007 game, from the box score, Linfield played 73, not "all 100+ kids." Also, at least 14 of the 22 starters played after the first quarter -- Denney, Arnold, Tkachuk, Ragan, Bean, Mehl, Tawata, Hinkle, Banker, Vierra, Boustead, Nelson, Cruickshank, and Boehme.

cawcdad was wrong. I was right, yet again.
